NOT A REAL CHAPTER:
Hi! This is just a chapter for those who struggle to visualize descriptions in their head and want to know more about the ODM-Gear, which is used very, very often by the characters in this story.

To make you familiar with the terminology, we'll go over the appearance, mechanisms and components of this device.

What is ODM gear?

==> ODM gear, which stands for Omni-Dimensional- Maneuver gear, is the device the humans use to defeat the Titans; by launching themselves and swinging in the air using swords. It allows the user to spring up and move however they please: side to side, front to back, up-down, hence the name. It's basically like Spider-Man but without the web.

What are the components/How does it look like?

You open your door to find that you've received a package. A brown, leathery suitcase sits on your porch, looking very heavy. Carefully, you take the suitcase in and unlatch the clasps to open it. Inside you find...

The Components:

(𝖨 𝗁𝗈𝗉𝖾 𝗒'all 𝖼𝖺𝗇 𝗌𝖾𝖾 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝗇𝗎𝗆𝖻𝖾𝗋𝗌 𝖼𝗅𝖾𝖺𝗋𝗅𝗒 💀)

These are each of the main components to assemble ODM gear:

1. The Gas Canisters 2x

The gas canisters are long, cylindrical metal cartridges that contain and compress the gas used to fuel the ODM device, which needs two of them. They are one of the most important parts of the whole device, because without it, the user won't be able to propel themselves and maneuver in the air. This is also why running out of gas can cause a huge problem.

The gas can be regulated to manipulate how much the user wants to move, either slower or faster. They can also "activate the gas canisters" with an explosive boost that speeds them up, leaving a trail of gas behind them. However, this uses up a lot of fuel, making it run out quicker.

2. The Scabbards (Operating Device or "Black Box") 2x

The scabbards are the largest parts of the whole device, and are attached to the thighs of the user. As shown in the above image, the gas canisters are fixed to the scabbards.

As you can see in the front face of the scabbard, there are slots that are designed to store blade attachments. Continuous slashing of Titans can wear the blades out, so the user must detach them from the hilts. The scabbard makes it easier to cycle through multiple pairs (usually 3 extra pairs in total).

3. Grappling Hooks

The grappling hooks allow the user to aim at a target and fire a metal cable/wire that attaches to a surface to hook onto. At the tip of a cable is an anchor with very sharp, durable blades that fan out when fired to grip onto surfaces more easily.

When fired, the hooks come out of a wooden opening from the Main Body (I will explain this below), which are found on both sides of the user's hips.

4. The Main Body (see the suitcase image above for reference)

The main body, which houses the grappling hooks, is strapped to the user's back. It mainly consists of two parts, the reel cases and a gas nozzle. The reel cases are those large circular things on the sides that look like insect eyes. The wires/cables of the grappling hooks are fed through them. When fired, these cables unravel, making a "whirring" sound and allowing for more range.

The nozzle in the middle is what allows gas to release when activated. It also controls the amount of output which allows the user to speed up/slow down as much as they like.

5. The hand-held Grips 2x

In each hand the user holds one device that both controls ODM movement and acts as the hilt of a sword. These hand-held grips are attached to the gas canisters by a thin, black wire. There are six buttons: a valve that releases gas, four that control the wires/cables and one that is used to attach/detach blades. To activate the gas canisters, the user must flick their wrist.

How does it work?

The ODM user must first look for a good, stable surface to hook onto. Once they've chosen a point, they fire a grappling hook(s) and activate the gas canisters with a click of a button/flick of their wrist. Then, they launch themselves into the air. With another boost, they propel themselves further.

Once they've located a Titan, they quickly attach their hand-held grips to a pair of blades stored in the scabbard, and, taking them out, they hold their swords high over their head to slash the nape.

Refilling:

In most districts/cities, there are buildings referred to as HQ which are built for the soldiers to replenish their gas supplies at refill stations. I don't have a picture but just imagine a bunch of long, metal cylinders bundled up together and you got a refill station.

The user takes out their gas canisters from their scabbards, which have a hole at the top that can be opened. Then, just like at a gas station, the user takes a pump to fill up their canister by connecting the pump's nozzle to the opening.

Other than that, there are also smaller, portable gas canteens that they can use in case of an emergency. Though it is not recommended to fill up in the middle of battle, which is why these canteens don't get used often.
