6-Routine

Louis' POV

Louis opened the door to the apartment and walked in, breathing in the familiar scent. He glanced around the place feeling a little down, he'd miss this place when he had to move out.

He briefly considered getting a roommate but soon dismissed the idea. Even though the apartment had two bedrooms, the second one was barely large enough to be called a bedroom. All it had was a tiny bed cramped in a corner and a cupboard stuffed against the bed, leaving barely any space to even enter or walk our of the room.

It resembled a closet more than a room and nobody should be made to live in a closet, he thought to himself.

Nope. Getting a roommate wasn't an option, he would have to move out and that was that.

He walked into his slightly larger bedroom and flopped down on the bed, his stomach facing the ceiling.

He reached over to the bedside table and had an aspirin, hoping for his headache to become better. He sighed grimly to himself, thoughts flying around his mind.

When he thought back on it, over the past year, his life had become more or less painfully monotonous. He'd wake up in the morning in some unknown chick's bed, hungover with a throbbing headache, then he'd sneak out of her apartment, find his way home, lie down for a while before making it to work with barely any time to spare, go to the bar in the evening, hook up with someone and so the cycle continued. It had become a routine.

Initially, it all fun and excitement, adrenaline coursing through his veins as the alcohol set in, but now after almost a year of this routine he was frankly fed up of it to be honest.

He did the flings because he didn't think he'd be able to survive a relationship, they were way too complicated and stressful for his liking. But even the flings were beginning to lose their charm, he was barely able to get hard during sex these days and had to stroke himself first in order to do so, he admitted grudgingly to himself. Maybe he needed a break from this routine. Something to stir things up.

He sighed again and looked at his watch. It was 11.30 am which meant that he had to get his ass moving if he wanted to reach work on time.

He got up slowly, took a quick shower, washing off the remains of the night before and got dressed all in 15 minutes. He was used to it, it was part of his monotonous life.

He walked down the street, stopping outside a small shop called Food Arcade and pushed the door open, greeted by the blast of the air conditioning, the bells above the door jingling loudly as he walked in.

"Oi Tommo, you're just in time, thank goodness or I'd have to work over time to save your sorry ass as usual" a good-natured voice with an Irish accent rang out from the back of the shop.

The young lad walked over to Louis, taking off his apron and running a hand through his bleached blond hair his eyes twinkling.

"Thanks Nialler, it's nice to know you've always got my back" Louis said, smiling at him.

Over the past year that he had been living here, Niall was the only person who had remained a true friend to Louis. Others came and went but Niall stood by his side always supporting him whether it be picking him up from one of his one night stands or whether it be rubbing his back at the bar washroom while he puked, the alcohol getting the better of him.

"Always mate, see you later" Niall smiled back at him warmly.

Louis walked over to take his place at the counter while Niall walked out with a wave and a grin.

The shop didn't have too many customers at the moment as business generally picked up at around 1.30 pm when people came in for lunch or whatever.

This left the shop quiet and Louis' mind idle which led to worrisome thoughts formulating in his brain. He only had about a month or so to find himself a new place to live and he honestly didn't know how he would afford it. His current apartment was a blessing in disguise when it came to the coziness and affordable price and he didn't think he'd find another place that was as affordable.

He absent-mindedly prepared a grilled cheese sandwich for a customer and handed it over to him, his mind occupied on something else all together.

He decided that he'd stop freaking out considering there was nothing he could do at the moment but he'd speak to Niall soon, asking for help in finding him an apartment.

Niall himself lived with his family who doted over him and sometimes he couldn't help but wish he had that in his life.

In any case, Niall was sure to be able to help him, he always managed to pull through on way or another , Louis consoled himself, slowly setting his mind at ease...
