City of Citran, Police Department, 9:00 a.m.
"The Commissioner is fucking nuts!" Special Inspector Kunal Malhotra said in a sneering voice and he really believed it – that the top dog of the place was off his rocker.
For once, the Special Inspector was not following the age-old tradition of badmouthing the boss. He really had a reason. At least he felt so as Sub-Inspector Viren Kiran peered at the note in the Special Inspector's hands.
"This is the number of a bank accountant." The Special Inspector said sounding almost disgusted. "The old fool wanted me to call up some bank accountant to come to meet him. Here." Kunal said annoyed, thumbing at the magnificently carved door behind him, which was housing the Commissioner of the city of Citran.
Viren blinked as he realized why the Special Inspector was in such a bad mood. "What the fuck would a bank accountant going to do in our world ?" The Sub-Inspector demanded.
Kunal swore bitterly at first and then a few seconds later he stopped as he winked cheekily at the Sub-Inspector. "It would be great fun to terrify the guy by calling him here."
For a second the Sub-Inspector stared and then he grinned.
Then Kunal called up the number and the call was connected on the other end.
"Am I speaking to Atreya Karthick?" The Special Inspector barked angrily.
The voice on the other end was soft. Boringly soft – which did nothing else than annoy the Special Inspector some more.
"Speaking."
"I am calling from the Police Department of Citran, Mr. Karthick."
The call was on a speaker mode as both the cops could hear the man on the other end.
And they both knew what was going to happen. Well. The guy would probably bend over backwards trying to be nice and would probably try to hide the fact that he was terrified.
But then that was natural. No one really liked it when the law took a sudden interest in them.
For the first time in their lives, both the cops were in for a shock.
"Ok."
The man on the other end – this Atreya Karthick seemed to be a man of few words. Very few words. And apparently he did not get ruffled.
That was when the Special Inspector wondered whothe man really was.
"Are you by any chance related to Mr. Karthick? The industrialist owning Silvertronics?" The Special Inspector had honestly meant to just give the message to the man on the other end. But on hearing the utter calmness of the man on the other end, the Special Inspector found himself asking this question.
"Is that what the Commissioner wanted to ask me?"
Kunal Malhotra would have sworn out. Aloud. He just stopped himself as he was mentally cursing the cocky prick on the other end of the call. But then 'Mind your own business' in any language always sounded rude and completely uncalled for. Besides, no one had ever said that to the Special Inspector before. Ever.
Just that a stupid, soft-spoken bank accountant had done that now.
"No!" Kunal said angrily trying to curb his anger as he tried to remind himself the real reason of his call. "The Police Commissioner wants to talk to you. He wants you to come to the Department."
"Will be there."
The reply came curtly on the other end and with that the call was cut. Abruptly.
The Sub-Inspector and the Special Inspector stared at each other and neither said anything.
Neither knew what to say.
