Chapter 3

A/N: Song for the chapter - Be Our Guest from The Descendants.

Louis was walking across the hallway, searching for the godforsaken dining hall that he couldn't find anywhere. He mentally cursed the queen for not sending an escort. If anyone heard the words he was thinking about, he would be thrown in the dungeons for being a traitor.

He and the Prince had come back quite late in the evening, just in time for the evening meal. When they returned, they had been caught by one of the guards and to say the least, Harry had gotten quite the reprimand for going out alone and without any guards, especially because he had taken Louis with him, thereby putting him in danger too. Louis found it rather scandalous. How dare the guard say such things to the Prince? But Harry showed no emotion of contempt, just some wry boredom. Clearly, this wasnt the first time he had gotten chastised by a mere guard. How strange this Kingdom was.

Louis had parted his lips to say that he was quite certain he could take care of himself but before he could, the Prince spoke, "He is alright and so am I. If so, I do not understand the need to be chastised further." Louis couldn't agree more.

The guard sighed. He couldn't help but think that if any guard of his had even uttered a mere word against him, Louis would've had him thrown in the dungeons. He could not, for the life of him, understand how the Prince tolerated it. "The queen is waiting for you in her chambers. Go." The guard instructed.

Harry sighed and walked away, his shoulders drooping slightly. Louis was about to follow him to ask if he was alright when the guard said, "Your highness, I must ask you to go to your chambers and await a call for supper. I'm sure you could use some rest after the long ride."

He frowned. He was about to discipline the guard for stopping him but then thought better. Maybe the guard knew the Prince personally and that is why he was able to reproach him. Maybe that was also the reason why he asked Louis to stay back. Perhaps the prince wasn't in the disposition to talk. So Louis fought off the urge and just nodded at him, before going to his chambers.

Now, he was finally called for the evening meal and if it had been any later, he would've certainly fainted with hunger. Thanking the stars, he finally entered the dining hall, ready to eat to his hearts content. But as soon as he entered, he frowned. The Prince wasn't there.

Everyone except for the Prince was there, even the King and the Queen. Wasn't the prince supposed to be present before the King and the Queen? And hadn't the Queen asked him to her chambers for a talk? This kingdom was nothing but outrageous, he thought.

He bowed before the king and the queen and sat in front of the princess. "Will the Prince not be joining us for supper?" He asked.

The queen shared a look with the princess, leaving a very confused Louis even more bewildered. There was clearly something going on that he didn't know. He swore to himself that he would find out what. "No, the Prince is quite tired after your ride and chose to retire for the day." The queen said.

He nodded. The last time Louis saw the Prince, he was anything but tired. The princess smiled at him and said, "Would you like to try the salad? I made it myself."

Louis eyes widened. He smiled in surprise and asked, "You know how to cook? I have to say, that is rather charming." She blushed.

"I am fairly proficient at a lot of things, your highness." She said, a corner of her lips going up. Louis grinned. What a teaser she was. And at a table with her parents! It was scandalous enough to excite even Louis. He opened his mouth to respond when he realised a very interesting fact. She had successfully distracted him from the topic of the Prince. Smiling, he realised that he had been taught the exact thing himself and yet, he hadn't become conscious of the fact that he had fallen prey. If she were to be his wife, he was happy to know that she wouldn't be a burden at tactical meetings.

A servant served him some bacon, cheese and some freshly baked bread. Pulling in his stomach to prevent it from rumbling, Louis waited for the King and Queen to have the first bite. Immediately after, he tucked in himself. He had been right to think that he would've fainted if he didnt eat soon. He was ravenous. Trying his very best not to appear like a starved beggar, he bit into his bread. The cheese on top melted on his tongue and he resisted a soft sound of appreciation.

"Prince Louis," The princess began, "Would you like to join me for a walk tomorrow morning? You have been here for a day or two now and I have yet to show you around the Palace."

He smiled at her. "That would be truly wonderful! I dare say, I haven't gotten to spend any time with you since the ball. I seem to have enjoyed your company." He paused, wondering if it was the best idea to speak such outrageous words in front of her parents but when he looked at them, they didn't seem to mind. In fact, the queen had a rather amused look on her face.

The princess gave out a small laugh. "I have to say, that's somewhat improper of me." He smiled once more. She had quite a nice laugh. Of course, so did the Prince. The whole of the royal family seemed to have some rather charming qualities. He would like to be a part of it, however improper the circumstances of getting to know them were.

"Not at all, your highness! Your brother has done a spectacular job of keeping me occupied. I had a delightful time with him today." Louis exclaimed. He realised he should thank the Prince for his company but he seemed to have disappeared somewhere. He supposed it didn't count as rude when one wants to thank someone but that person has vanished from the face of Earth. Really, he wasnt the one to be blamed in this at all.

The Queen smiled at him and said, "I'm very glad you are enjoying your stay here, Prince Louis." He just smiled at her and continued eating his evening meal.

Soon, everyone had filled their bellies and it was time to retire for the day. Louis limbs ached from riding all day and he very much wanted to lie down on the soft bed that they had provided him with. It seemed to him as if the warm duvets were calling out to him, ready to take him in their earnest embrace. He heaved out a sigh and said, "I regret to say but I must retire for the day. I'm thoroughly fatigued from our excursion today."

"Of course." The king said. "Have a good night, your highness."

Louis muttered a quick thanks while suppressing a yawn. He bowed and walked out of the dining hall, intent on just falling down on his bed the moment he reached his chambers. He was so exhausted, he wondered how he could even walk and how he hadn't realised it before. He was about to drag himself inside his room when he saw a fleeting body around the corner. Louis recognised the person immediately. It was the Prince of Solis.

A/N: Okay, first of all, can we all agree that prince Ben from the Descendants is super cute? Thank you.
Now, did you like the chapter? There weren't many interesting things but it was necessary, trust me. Why do you think Harry gave that reaction? Why wasn't he present for dinner? What deep, dark secret are the Princess Gemma and her Majesty hiding? Read the next chapter to find out ;)
