Hawk's POV
It had taken a while but we'd finally made it to Vaizel!
And along the way, we'd picked up another member of the Seven Deadly Sins. Though, against me, King was a weakling. I laughed quietly to myself and followed after the others.
"How come we have to stay?" Diane questioned with a scowl. "That's my Gideon."
"I need you to take care of Elizabeth for me," Meliodas said.
"But Sir Meliodas!" Elizabeth protested, a hand curled to her chest.
"And I need more food for the Boar's Hat," Meliodas called over his shoulder.
"Don't worry, Diane. We'll get back your Sacred Treasure," King assured her and floated overhead.
The four of us – Ban, Meliodas, King and of course, myself, the Captain of the Scraps Disposal – trekked our way into Vaizel. We'd heard rumour that Diane's Gideon was the prize in a local fighting festival. That and gold coins to line our pockets should we win.
But of course we'd win. I was on the team.
Ban stretched with a yawn. "Man, talk about boring. Why can't we just take the weapon?"
"Come on, it'll be fun," Meliodas said with a grin. "A bit of practice for you since you've been cooped up in that cell for so long."
Ban punched Meliodas but the latter leant out of reach of the swipe.
"Maybe we'll even hear word of Estra," I piped up.
We'd all been concerned about her disappearance – except Ban, and obviously King because he barely knew her – and the fact that she hadn't turned back up yet.
"Don't worry, she'll come back when she's ready," said Meliodas, hands behind his head. He seemed the least perturbed by the fact that our fox was missing.
"She's probably tucked her tail between her legs and scampered away." That was Ban. He was still irked that he shared a sin with a real fox-turned-human. He was supposed to be the Fox's sin of Greed, not the one of Envy.
I rolled my eyes and snorted. "Considering the fact she wanted to return to a fox, I don't think that's the case."
We reached the outskirts of Vaizel and all talk of Estra ceased as we stepped foot in. We made straight for the fighting ring. It was atop a huge boulder and connected to the rest of Vaizel by a wooden walkway.
Already a large group of men were in the ring, eyeing up the competition. Ban, King and Meliodas entered the ring just as a tiny figure with spindly arms placed himself centre stage. He wore what looked like a pink dress and his helmet was shoved so far down his head that you couldn't even see his face!
In a squeaky voice, it announced the rules of the fighting festival and the rundown of the event. I eyed the competition the others were up against and sighed. "They oughta count themselves lucky that I didn't sign myself up for this," I said aloud.
Suddenly I was barrelled over by a crazy woman weaving her way through the crowd.
"Hey!" I shouted after them then my eyes widened. The woman's hair was braided so that it sailed down her back like a tail. It was brilliant orange, orange like the fur of a fox's coat.
Estra? No, surely not, I thought, noting the outfit the woman wore as she disappeared into the throng of people. She'd been in armour and carried a sword on her back.
Estra could barely handle a dagger, let alone a sword. And I was pretty sure she'd never wear armour. She'd complain it was too heavy and cumbersome to move in. She was like that.
But... it did kind of smell like her. Strange.
Oh well. The lady's gone so I can't ask her her name. Better get back to the task at hand.
"Okay!" I hollered to the crowds. "Listen up, folks. I'm the Boar's Hat's travelling sales rep! How about some ale while you enjoy the festival? Only one silver coin a mug!"
Instantly, I had people shouting their orders at me, waving silver coins in the air by the fistful.
"Over here, Porky!"
"I'll take two!"
"Coming right up!" I replied, pleased and guffawing to myself. Today would be a good day!
~
Sales for ale were really skyrocketing today. Especially with the fight between Matrona and Grimoire what with everyone making bets that really benefitted my money pouch. And who would have guessed Matrona was actually Diane?
Turned out after we'd left the two at the tavern, they'd annoyed a magic mushroom that changed their sizes. Now Diane was human sized and Elizabeth could fit into the palm of Meliodas' hand. Not that I let him hold her. Pervert.
Ban and Meliodas had fought as well – they'd been paired together much to their chagrin. It was strange how Meliodas had won considering Ban had used his powers to drain Meliodas of his strength and powers but I didn't linger much on it. Oh yeah, someone should probably check if Ban was okay. He'd been blasted halfway across the country side. I mean, he was probably fine, being immortal and all.
I wasn't even going to spend much brain power on King's battle. That was embarrassing to say the least.
But now I was out of ale. I trotted back to the tavern, a chorus of shouts and roars behind me. I looked back to see a swirling tornado turn to nothing. Diane must be really doing a number on that Holy Knight she'd been paired up with. Howzer I believe his name was.
As I turned a corner, I saw the woman from earlier. Her sword had been moved to her waist and she prowled with an air of authority. I stopped, stunned, in the middle of the road. You could dress her in armour and give her a sword but there was no doubt now that was Estra.
"Hey, you!" I called out. Estra paused and squinted at me. I waited as she walked closer, a hand held out in a small wave as she said a tentative hello.
It really was her! "It is you!" I squawked and leapt at her, intending for a hug. My eyes and nose were streaming with tears of joy. We'd finally found her.
I found myself snout to snout with a blade pointed at my tender flesh. I cried out in protest and took a few step back. Her lips were pulled back over her teeth in a snarl and any trace of friendliness was drowned by animosity in her eyes.
"Estra, what's wrong?" I questioned. Why was she acting like this?
"How the hell do you know my name, porky?" she growled, jabbing her blade towards me.
"Stop thrusting your sword in my face! Where did you even get that? Never mind that, where have you been? Everyone's been worried sick."
What the hell was wrong with her? Doesn't she recognise me? She wasn't gone that long! I was shaking, from trotters to snout.
"I don't know who you are," she replied vehemently. "Now I suggest you get out of my way before you become a shish-kebab on my blade."
My mouth dropped open, eyes widening. Tears of joy were replaced by ones of hurt and sorrow. "Estra, it's me," I pleaded. "It's Hawk. Remember, Captain of the Scraps Disposal."
She stiffened and I saw a spark in her eyes, a glimpse of the Estra I knew before they dulled and she replied, "Like I said, I don't know who you are."
She sheathed her weapon and walked past. I couldn't move. Shell-shocked, I could only listen as her footsteps receded. Something horrible had happened to Estra. I ditched the barrel and scurried back to the others.
Ban was nowhere to be seen; Diane and Meliodas were trading blows in the ring.
"Hawk, what's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost," King noted.
"You wouldn't believe what happened! I ran into Estra and she-" I realised I was shouting when someone gave me a sharp kick to the backside. I squealed then dropped my voice to a whisper. "She didn't recognise me! She had a sword pointed at me the entire time!"
"A sword?" Elizabeth asked. She was wrapped in purple fabric and she struggled to hold it up.
"Here. Pass her over." Quickly, I redesigned the fabric into a dress. Then continuing the original discussion, I said, "Estra was decked out in full armour too. She kind of reminded me of that lightning dude who fried my backside in the forest." I shuddered. Too many painful memories of that man.
Elizabeth gasped. "It sounds like she's a Holy Knight then." Her head bowed in thought. "But why would she be with them?"
"Something fishy's going on."
"If she's who you say she is, maybe she liked the outfit so much she stole it," King said with a shrug.
"No, Estra wouldn't do that. She couldn't wield a sword and she hated wearing too many layers," Elizabeth mused. "Hawk's right. Something fishy's going on."
"We have to tell the others," I said just as Meliodas shouted over the noise of the crowd.
"Listen up! We are the Seven Deadly Sins and we are here to take over Vaizel. Leave now, all of you!"
"What?" I squawked. Elizabeth had been dropped on my head and King now floated beside Ban and Diane. I looked around the crowd. Estra's brilliant orange hair was nowhere to be seen and that frightened me even more than Meliodas' impromptu takeover.
A flaming meteor hurtled from the sky and I gasped at the same time as Elizabeth. Meliodas was quick to action though, destroying it with full counter. I breathe a sigh of relief. Then several more meteors exploded on impact and Vaizel began to burn.
A/N: Hopefully this still sounds like Hawk enough to pass. He's a hard character to write about. The dialogue at the start is probably wrong and not to storyline because I can only remember bits and pieces of the episode besides the fights but I quite like it. Just let me know if it's too far gone from the original dialogue though cause I want to make this fanfiction as realistic as possible :)
Here, have some gifs now of the Vaizel Fight Festival since I had Hawk missing them as well as Estra in the chapters before:
Hey look, I made a pattern. You can also tell which fight I liked the most hehe
