3rd person pov:
Jughead walked further into the woods, kicking rocks with his hands in his pockets. He was a real-life movie cliche. He felt like his entire life was caving in on him, like he had no control anymore. It started with his breakup from Betty, all he wanted was for her to be safe. On top of that, the serpents were constantly on his back about every single thing that was wrong with the town, they blamed it on him, though they were supposed to be kind to him, he was their king after all. Kicking one more rock, it rolled down the slight hill that led to his destination: Sweetwater River.
It had become his spot. His spot for whenever he wanted to be alone or clear his mind, which was why he was there now. He needed an escape from the harsh reality that was his life. While he loved Sweetwater River, there was a specific spot that had a special place in his heart. That was of course the giant boulder-like rock that was located near the forest. It was flat enough on the top to sit on, and it overlooked the gorgeous river. He climbed the small hill and sat atop the rock, taking long, deep breaths, attempting to forget the world around him, at least for a little while.
"Hey dude, you're on my rock." Someone states. He spun his head to see a girl, not too much younger than him, standing with her arms crossed expectantly.
"Sorry, I can go-" He began.
"No. I need some company. You can stay." It sounded more like and order than a request, so he moved over on the rock, allowing the girl to climb up next to him. She was wearing slightly oversized blue jeans and a cropped red sweatshirt paired with rather dirty white sneakers. Jughead often tried to understand people by what they were wearing, he got a 'popular yet independent' vibe from the girl.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Jughead. Who are you?" The girl had beautiful aqua eyes that stood out on her porcelain skin. She had raven hair, that much resembled his. She was beautiful, something right out of a movie.
"Hayley. Is Jughead your real name?" It was a question he got a lot, to which he always replies,
"My name is Forsythe, that's why I go by Jughead." She nodded her head and looked down at her hands, picking at the nail polish on her nails. His curiosity got the better of him and he asked,
"How old are you anyway?" He internally kicked himself. He was avoiding the question because he knew it would make him sound like a creep.
"I'm 13, how about you?"
"I'm 16. And I have to say, you look a lot older than you really are." She laughed, like it was some kind of inside joke she had.
"I'm a lot more mature too. At least that's what my family says... Used to say." The sadness in her voice was audible, that's what led him to his next question.
"Why are you out here all alone?"
"God, are we playing 50 questions? You're so nosy." She laughed as his face turned red from embarrassment.
"Well if you want to know. My family is... not great. My dad is an alcoholic and my mom always falls victim. He will occasionally come after me, but I'm pretty good about staying out of it." His jaw almost fell open. He was shocked for some reason. Maybe it was because she seemed perfect. But you know what they say, never judge a book by it's cover, which is something Jughead didn't usually do, but with Hayley, she seemed so perfect, so innocent. He was wrong.
"Oh" Was the best thing he could come up with.
"Why are you out here all alone Jug?" He smiled at the younger girl. He'd know her for a few minutes and she was already calling him nicknames.
"Well. I just needed time to think. I'm the leader of this... group, and the group just keeps putting so much pressure on me and I can't take it anymore. I don't know who to talk to because I just broke up with my girlfriend and she was really the only one I could talk to." He sighed.
"Well, you can talk to me..."
"What do you think I'm doing?" He laughed, feeling more relaxed than he had in weeks.
"You look like a loner. Are you?" Hayley asked. She didn't usually feel comfortable around new people, but there was just something about him. Maybe it was because their personalities worked perfectly together. They were both sarcastic and introverted, yet she was still bubbly and energetic, unlike him.
"You look like snow white. Are you?"
"No, I'm not. And I don't know whether to be offended or complimented by the fact that you compared me to a 1937 animated character." If there was one thing Hayley knew, it was movies. It was one of the only things in her life that still brought her joy.
"Wow. You know your stuff. I used to work at the twilight drive-in. We used to play classics like that all the time." He was overcome with nostalgia about the lovely time he spent working, and living there.
"I never went there. I would always beg my parents to go, but they would always tell me it wasn't worth their money."
"I used to go all the time as a kid. We wouldn't have enough money, so me and my sister, Jellybean, always got in the trunk." He admired the memory he hadn't thought of in a while, it was a crucial part of who he was, but he had feel out of touch with who he was lately, but being around Hayley brought that back. Perhaps because she was almost a younger version of himself.
"Wait, your sister's name is Jellybean? Do weird names run in the family?"
"Yes, they do." They had continued their conversation for hours, talking about everything from their favorite movies to their favorite foods, just being happy in their newfound friendship. The sun had began to set and Jughead knew this not-so-bad day was coming to an end.
"Hey, it's getting late. Do you want me to walk you home?" She glanced in the distance, towards her house, debating how to answer. Her parents were probably still fighting and she would be in so much trouble if they found out she'd been hanging out with a boy, even if they were just friends.
"Um. No, I don't think I'm ready to go home. But you can go." She sighed, wanting to spend as much time with him as possible, she hadn't been that happy in a long time.
"Ok. We can go to Pop's." He said, jumping down from the rock, holding out his hand for her.
"I don't have any money."
"I'm friends with the girls who owns it. I get free food. Come on Snow white, let's go get you a sweet milkshake." She smiled and grabbed his hand, allowing him to help her down. From that day forward she was snow white to him, and their friendship was everlasting.
A/n: I really don't like how this came out. Thoughts?
