THE SNOWMAN
Kevin races top speed up a narrow cliff, pulling the sled that skids precariously with Louis manning the reins. Harry sitting beside him.
"Hang on! We like to go fast!" Louis tries scaring the 'Prince', as he so called himself.
"I like fast!" Harry says fearlessly. To prove his point, he leans back and puts his feet up on the dashboard.
"Whoa, whoa! Get your feet down." The Sami ice harvester pushes the Prince's feet down, not pleased with how he's acting. That is not how a person who has lived his whole life in the castle should act. "This is fresh lacquer. Seriously, were you raised in a barn?" He spits on the dash to clean it. Some of his saliva flies and hits Harry in his face.
The young royal made a disgusted face, wiping at his face to get rid of the spit. "Ew. No, I was raised in a castle."
"So tell me," Louis begins, wanting to keep the conversation flowing. "What made the King go all ice-crazy?"
A little startled by the new topic that involved his brother, Harry slowly explained. "...oh well, it was all my fault. I got engaged but then he freaked out because I'd only just met him, you know, that day. And he said he wouldn't bless the marriage--"
Louis cuts him off in the middle of his rambling. "Wait. You got engaged to someone you just met?"
"Yeah, anyway. I got mad and so he got mad and then he tried to walk away, and I gabbed his glove--"
"Hang on." Louis tries taking in the information he'd just heard. "You mean to tell me you got engaged to someone you just met?!" Honestly, he couldn't believe what this Prince was saying.
"Yes. Pay attention." Says an irritated Harry. He hated being cut off to be asked the same question he already gave an answer to. "But the thing is he wore the gloves all the time, so I thought, maybe he has a thing about dirt."
"Didn't your parents ever warn you about strangers?"
Harry eyes Louis up and down, then slides away from him. "Yes, they did... But Nick is not a stranger."
"Oh yeah?" Louis asks challengingly. "What's his last name?"
Okay. They never discussed that yet.
"...of-the-Southern-Isles?" Harry states unsurely.
"What's his favorite food?"
"...sandwiches."
"Best friend's name?"
"Probably John."
"Eye color?"
"Dreamy."
"Foot size...?"
"Foot size doesn't matter." What was up with this guy and his non stop questioning?
"Have you had a meal with him yet? What if you hate the way he eats? What if you hate the way he picks his nose?"
"Picks his nose?" Harry glared at the blue eyed man, slightly offended.
"And eats it."
The Prince scoffed at him. Why would he think of Nick like that with a behavior fit for a peasant?
"Excuse me, Sir. He's a Prince."
Looking ahead, the Sami boy states as a matter of fact, "all men do it."
"Ew."
How could he say that?
I don't even do such inappropriate actions!
Wait...do I count as a man?
Though grossed out, Harry didn't cease to defend the feelings he and Nick shared for each other. "Look it doesn't matter; it's true love."
"Doesn't sound like true love." Louis says calmly.
"Are you some sort of 'love expert'?"
"No. But I have friends who are." If you consider trolls who you've spent most of your life with, and have seen the things they could do, then yes.
"You have friends who are love experts...I'm not buying it."
Louis wanted to prove the boy wrong, but Kevin suddenly stops in his tracks, ears perked up in alarm.
"Stop talking."
"No, no, no. I'd like to meet these--"
Will this guy ever shut up?
Louis clamps his hand over Harry's mouth, shutting the boy up. "I mean it. SHHH."
He stands, looking into the dark woods surrounding them. Sensing something behind them, he holds up his lantern, it's light reflecting off of several eyes.
"Kev, go. Go!"
With that, Kevin takes off.
"What are they?" Harry asks curiously. Louis takes a quick glance behind them then turn to Harry, shortly replying with "wolves." Then focused on getting away from those vicious animals.
Flashes of white dart through the woods. Louis hops into the back of the sled, grabbing a torch then lights it up.
"Wolves. What do we do?" Harry wanted to help, but it seems as though Louis didn't want him to. "I've got this. You just...don't fall off and don't get eaten."
Does he not think I can fight? Harry thought. "But I wanna help."
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because I don't trust your judgment."
"Excuse me?!"
A wolf jumps at them, but Louis kicks it off. Then turns to Harry again. "Who marries a man he just met?"
Harry grabs the lute that lay beside him, swinging it right at Louis' head.
"It's true love!"
The Sami boy screams, ducking as BAM! the instrument knocks a wolf away. Shocked with how he didn't see that coming, he stared at the Prince, impressed. "Whoa."
Just then Louis is yanked off the sled by another wolf. The torch goes flying out of his hand, but luckily a shocked Harry catches it.
"Lewis!"
"It's Louis!"
Louis grabs onto a loose rope hanging from the back of the sled and holds on for dear life as he's dragged behind, just as a wolf jumps on his back.
"Ah!!"
Harry thinks fast, using the torch to light a blanket he found behind the sled on fire, shouting "duck!" before throwing the flaming blanket right at Louis, who ducks, which hits the wolves that were chasing them from behind.
"You almost set me on fire!" Louis shouts in disbelief. Harry reaches out a hand and pulls him back onto the sled. "But I didn't." He clarified.
Kevin cries out as he sees a massive gorge ahead.
"Get ready to jump, Kev!" Harry informs, holding on tightly to the dashboard of the sled.
"You don't tell him what to do!" Louis says, shoving a satchel into the Prince's arms then scoops him up with ease. "I do!" He tosses Harry onto Kevin, then unhooks the reindeer's harness from the sled. "Jump, Kevin!"
Kevin jumps the gorge with Harry on his back while Louis goes flying off behind them, still on the sled. The Prince and reindeer land safely on the other side of the gorge. As for the ice harvester? not quite yet. Louis' sled loses it's momentum, so without hesitation, the Sami boy leaps off, flapping his arms and claws at the air. He slams into the snowy edge of the cliff, hanging by is hands. He looks down to see his sled hit the ground far below and burst into flames.
"...But I just paid it off." He says, shocked and sad at the same time.
Suddenly, he starts to slip. He claws at the loose snow, but it's clearly hopeless. "Uh-oh. No, no, no."
To make matters worse, an axe comes flying right at his face. "AH! NO, NO, NO!"
"Grab on!" Shouted Harry. So Louis did.
The axe was tied to a rope, then wrapped around Kevin. Harry helps the reindeer pull Louis to safety. Once he was, he rolls onto his back, exhausted. Harry peeks down at the burning sled.
"Whoa.... I'll replace your sled and everything in it."
Louis groans.
"And I understand if you don't want to help me anymore."
Harry starts to walk off sadly. Kevin comes over and nuzzles his nose to Louis' face.
"Of course I don't want to help him anymore. In fact, this whole thing has ruined me for helping anyone ever again."
"But he'll die on his own." Louis says in his Kevin voice, as to speak what the reindeer was trying to tell him.
"I can live with that."
Through their conversation, they watch Harry go the wrong way...turn, go the other wrong way, turn, trip...
"But you won't get your new sled if he's dead."
Knowing he's got a point in being in his reindeer's point of view, he looks at Kevin with a blunt expression. "...you know sometimes I really don't like you." In response, Kevin licks Louis' face happily.
"Hold up. We're coming!" He shouts to Harry.
The Prince turns to them with excitement. "You are?!" But remembers he needs to keep up his 'pretty chill' act. "I mean, sure. I'll let you tag along."
Louis, Kevin and Harry walk through a narrow rim of a mountain, and as they step out of the thick trees, Harry catches sight of something far below.
"Arendelle..."
"It's completely frozen." Harry turns to Louis, who also gazed upon the frozen kingdom. "...but it'll be fine. Zayn will thaw it."
"Will he?"
"...yeah." He answers, uncertain with his own words. "Noe come on. This way to the North Mountain?" He points straight ahead.
Louis internally chuckles at the Prince, a smile visible on his face. And to correct him, he points Harry's finger up towards a perilously mighty mountain.
_______
Harry, Louis, and Kevin walk beneath frozen willows. The hanging branches glisten like Christmas lights. Kevin knocks them with his antlers, a tinkle like chime filling his ears.
"I never knew winter could be so beautiful." The Prince said, staring in awe.
Suddenly, a voice comes in from nowhere.
"YEAH...it really is beautiful, isn't it? But it's so white. You know, how about a little color? Must we bleach the joy out of it all? I'm thinking like maybe some crimson, chartreuse..."
While the voice goes on, Harry and Louis look around for the source of the rambling. They look at Kevin- just to find him looking back at them with his antlers tangled in branches, just as baffled as they are.
In the meantime, a nose-less snowman, Niall, wanders up behind them.
"How 'bout yellow--no, not yellow. Yellow and snow? Brrrr...no go."
He stops between Louis and Harry, the two looking down at him. How did he get there? And he suddenly looks up at Harry. "Am I right?"
The Prince screams in fright, reflexes taking over and he kicks the snowman's head, sending it flying off his body and into Louis' arms.
"Hi!" It greeted cheerily.
"You're creepy."
Louis tosses the head back to Harry and they commence a game of hot potato.
"I don't want it!"
"Backatchya!"
"Please don't drop me." Niall says in between.
"Don't!"
"Come on, it's just a head."
"No!"
Niall's body runs at Harry, waving it's stick arms around.
"All right, we got off to a bad start."
"Ew, ew, the body!"
Harry slams the snowman's head back on the body, upside down. Niall smiles happily, then looks confused.
"Wait, what am I looking at right now? Why are you hanging off the earth like a bat?"
Harry, now feeling sympathetic for the snowman, approaches him cautiously. "...okay. Wait one second." He kneels in front of Niall and rights his head up.
"Oooh! Thank you!"
"You're welcome."
"Now I'm perfect."
He looks over his innocent face and gets an idea. "Well, almost." Harry digs into Louis' satchel, holds up a carrot just as Niall turns toward him, causing it to accidentally slam all the way through his head.
"Woo! Head rush!"
"Oh! Too hard. I'm sorry! I-I, I was just...are you okay?" Asked Harry, concern for the snowman.
Niall sees a tiny piece of carrot sticking out between his eyes. He immediately lights up. "Are you kidding? I am wonderful! I've always wanted a nose." He goes cross-eyed to look at his tiny nose. "So cute. It's like a little baby unicorn."
Harry reaches behind Niall to the bulk of the carrot sticking out the back of his head, and pushes it forward.
"What? Hey! Whoa!" Niall exclaims, then sees his now big nose. "Oh, I love it even more! Hah.... All right, let's start this thing over. Hi everyone. I'm Niall. And I like warm hugs." He opens his arms wide to Harry. That triggers a memory for the Prince. It takes him a moment to place it, but then he does.
"Niall?...that's right, Niall."
"...and you are?" The snowman waited for him expectantly.
"Oh, um...I'm Harry."
"And who's the funky-looking donkey over there?"
"That's Kevin."
"Uh-huh. And who's the reindeer?"
Wait, was his first question referring to Louis? Harry didn't know. So he just answered his question with the same answer. "...Kevin."
Niall looks from Louis to Kevin, confused.
"Oh. They're--oh, okay...makes things easier for me."
Great. Louis internally groans. Prince-y here can't even pronounce my name right. And now I'm being called by my reindeer's name? By a fricking snowman?!
Kevin tries biting at Niall's nose, but didn't get the chance to.
"Ha. Aw, look at him tryin' to kiss my nose." The snowman gushes. "I like you, too!"
"Niall, did Zayn build you?" Questioned Harry.
"Yeah. Why?"
Curious, Louis takes one of Niall's twig arms off, studying it. It seems to be moving in sync with his other arm.
"Do you know where he is?"
"Fascinating..." Louis mutters, studying the snowman's arm.
"Yeah. Why?"
"Do you think you could show us the way?"
"Yeah. Why?"
Louis bends the arm experimentally. "How does this work?"
Niall's dismembered arm slaps Louis across the face.
"Stop it, Kevin. Trying to focus here." Niall scolds, then turns back to Harry. "Yeah. Why?"
"I'll tell you why." Louis speaks up in a serious tone. "We need Zayn to bring back summer."
Okay I'll cut it short from there. I'm sorry if this took longer than expected. Exams are coming yet again so I gotta focus on that shit.
