liv. slumber party

Molly never really saw herself ever dreading having to go to karate everyday.

Until Johnny started to partner her up with Tory for a sparring sessions everyday.

She stood across the blonde, her fists raised defensively, her heart practically beating out of her chest, and her stomach hurting with nerves so much, she felt just about ready to throw up. Molly could hardly even look at the girl, she had to stare at the space between her eyes instead of her actual eyes.

"Ready? Fight!" Johnny screamed and instead of pouncing like Molly was used to and would do with anyone else in the mat, she stayed completely still.

It was like her body was locked. It couldn't move and Molly could bet if someone tried to move her, they wouldn't be able to get her to budge.

And across her, Tory was glued to her stop in the mat. Her chest rose and fell shakily, her eyes trained on the crease between Molly's eyebrows. She knew that taking even a step toward Molly would trigger her. Her fists were hardly even clenched by her face to show Molly she wasn't gonna hurt her, but it was useless.

Tory didn't know what to say to Molly. She was shocked she was welcomed into Miyagi-Do with open arms, especially after finding out Daniel pulled Molly aside and asked her if she'd be okay with Tory on the team.

Since being at the dojo, Tory's eyes would find Molly and her chest would tighten. Guilt coursed through her like a burning pain she couldn't get rid of. Tory found herself wanting to say something to Molly, but she could never find the words.

So instead, the two just kept their distances from each other and apparently, Johnny was sick of it.

The man groaned at neither girls moving, throwing his head back in annoyance and shutting his eyes. When he opened his eyes and looked back to the girls, Johnny threw his arms up into the air. "Oh, come on! Is someone gonna move?" He yelled, hoping that would kick the girls into fighting mode, but neither of them moved.

From a few feet behind Johnny, Devon, Robby, and Eli watched the two girls not moving on the mat. Robby and Eli winced at the sight while Devon held back a shocked laugh.

She looked to the two boys and scoffed. "Your girlfriends are broken." Devon muttered and at the same time, Eli and Robby both sighed, Eli's shoulders slumping as the breath left his lungs.

Robby kept his eyes on the girls, holding hope that one of the girls would make a move and fight (preferably Molly so she wouldn't get scared seeing Tory come at her) before his dad yelled at them.

He shook his head in defeat when neither girls moved and finally turned to Devon. "Tory's still trying to figure out what to say to Molly so she hasn't apologized to her yet." Robby explained before his eyes moved back to the girls on the mat. This time, his eyes were on his ex and his eyes softened. "Molly's still working through everything that happened."

Eli looked to Robby out of the corner of his eyes and he had to hold back rolling them at the look Robby was giving Molly. He licked his teeth to hold back saying anything too aggressive and raised his eyebrows sarcastically.

"Yeah, well, she can't really work through something without closure from the person that caused it." Eli grumbled under his breath, but both Devon and Robby heard his words and snapped their heads to him.

Robby felt his stomach twist at the small dig Eli made. He took a step toward the boy to try and defend Tory, but before he could get the words out, Johnny groaned from the sparring deck and made him turn.

"That's it! Off the deck! I'm done with you two!" The man yelled, waving his hands around in defeat to shoo the girls away.

Without a second thought, Molly turned and hopped off the deck. She looked up and spotted Eli standing with Robby and Devon. She would've walked over to them, but at the last second, Molly turned where she was heading incase Tory was also heading over to the boys.

Molly ended up walking right into Kenny, who did purposely sidestep out of his way to get in Molly's way. His eyes were wide and soft and his head tilted gently as he looked to the girl. "Can we talk, Molly?"

Molly pushed her lips together and forced out a small, "yeah." Kenny walked closer to the koi pond to get to a more private area to talk with her and Molly just followed the boy along, not really knowing what he was about to say. The two haven't spoken since Kenny's joined Miyagi-Do and before that, the only times they've ever spoken was right before brawls.

Once they were far enough away from the others, Kenny turned back to Molly and sighed. His head hung low as he started off at the ground. With a defeated shrug and shake of his head, Kenny forced himself to look back up at Molly.

"I wanted to say I'm sorry for how I treated you while I was in Cobra Kai." Kenny said quickly, like he was ripping off a bandaid. Molly blinked once before her eyes widened. She didn't say anything as Kenny continued.

"It was messed up of me to make fun of your panic attacks. Cobra Kai..." Kenny's mouth opened and closed to try to think of the right words. After a couple seconds, Kenny cursed to himself and shook his head, getting angry just thinking about Cobra Kai and Silver. "They just taught everyone to find someone's weakness and use it against them and it was wrong of me to use your panic attacks as a weakness." Kenny explained, his voice softening again the more he spoke.

Molly's eyebrows raised at Kenny's words. Her shoulders straightened and her she blinked, not expecting it.

But Molly understood where Kenny was coming from. It was hurtful what he had said, but he was younger and under Cobra Kai's evil thumb.

She took a deep breath and nodded her head. "I understand. It's nothing I haven't heard from people before. I'm just glad you saw what was bad in Cobra Kai and changed." Molly said and Kenny did a double take, not expecting Molly to forgive him so quickly. When Robby gave him that boost of confidence to go apologize, he was completely terrified, but Molly was actually a really kind and understanding person.

Kenny was speechless for a second, but he managed to nod his head. When Molly turned to walk away, Kenny suddenly got the courage to speak and perked up, his hand thrown out to reach for Molly's arm.

"And uh..." Kenny started and Molly froze. She turned back to Kenny, her eyebrows raised. Kenny swallowed the lump in his throat before he gave Molly a small smile. "My brother, Shawn, gets panic attacks. I'm sure you already have a support system with Hawk or Miguel or someone, but if you ever need it, I'm here."

Molly smiled at that. She threw her head back and groaned, reaching her arms out to grab the boy. "Get over here!" Molly hummed, pulling the younger boy into a hug. Kenny laughed, wrapping his arms around Molly to hug her back just as Eli, Chris, Nate, and Devon came over to the two, Eli pulling the other three along to see what was happening between Molly and Kenny.

"Hey!" Chris cheered, clapping a hand onto Kenny's shoulder as they pulled away from their hug.

"Tomorrow's the big day. Finally gonna find out what country is hosting the Sekai Taikai." Eli said with a big smile, wrapping his arm around Molly's shoulders and pulling her into his side.

Molly giggled as she crashed into Eli's side. She got comfortable in his arms as she shrugged, making Eli turn to look down at her. "I've always wanted to visit Greece. My moms say it's beautiful whenever they have time in between flights to look around." Molly hummed in awe, everyone "oohing" and "awwing" at the thought of getting to go to Greece.

"Germany would be cool. My dad's getting stationed there next month." Kenny said and Molly smiled at the idea of Germany as Hawk nodded his head in agreemnt. "Sick." He breathed out.

"My money's on Taiwan. Gonna get my Din Tai Fung on." Chris jumped in happy dancing at the thought of the food. Molly, Nate, and Hawk all looked at Chris with twisted faces and confused expressions.

"There's a Din Tai Fung in Glendale." Nate said and Molly crossed her arms, nodding her head in agreement.

"Wait, word? Where?" Chris asked, looking between the three in shock. Molly's eyebrows furrowed deeper and she shrugged her shoulders. "At the Galleria." She answered and Chris's eyes widened. A smile broke out on his face. "Damn... We should all go!"

Molly chuckled, rolling her eyes. Just before she could open her mouth to say she would drive everyone, Johnny yelling stopped her.

"Lee! Call your dad! Tell him you're having people over tonight!" Johnny yelled from the entrance of the dojo. Molly and Devon turned to the man  just as he looked at  Molly. "And Preston! Pack a bag! You are the people!"

Molly watched the man with furrowed eyebrows as he walked into the home. Slowly, she turned to Devon, who looked just as confused as her, but still excited nonetheless. As Devon started to get more and more excited, just about ready to bounce on her toes and squeal, Molly giggled, shrugging her shoulders. "Well, I guess it's perfect that I'm your ride home. We can stop by my place, I'll quickly pack a bag and then we can go back to your house."

...

About an hour after Molly and Devon got back to Devon's house, Johnny showed up with his own sleeping bag and duffel bag packed up. Molly didn't question Johnny's involvement in this sleepover out loud, but she did give Devon a side look as the man walked into the girl's home. Devon looked just as confused as Molly, shrugging her shoulders helplessly before turning to the man and ushering him down to the basement where she and Molly had already set up for the night.

Molly did Devon's nails. Light green to go with the bonsai tree on their gis. Once Devon's hands were dry, they switched. Devon painted Molly's nails a light purple––she just liked the color and when Devon finished Molly's first hand, the doorbell rang through the home.

Devon's head snapped towards the stairwell before she put the brush of Molly's light purple nail polish back into the bottle and ran to go see who was here.

"But..." Molly called out after the girl, but Devon couldn't hear her over her own excited giggling. The entire drive to Molly's, the time it took for Molly to pack, and then the drive back to Devon's, all the younger girl could talk about was how excited she was to have her first sleepover. So when Devon didn't even falter a step at Molly's word, she knew her calling out to Devon again would be useless.

Her entire body slumped as she sighed. Molly's lips trilled as she looked around the room before her eyes landed at the small bar in Devon's basement. Johnny had his hands shoved into his front pockets as he looked over the alcohol Devon's dad had.

Molly cleared her throat loudly, making Johnny jump, a small gasp leaving his lips. He turned around frantically and rolled his eyes when all he was met with was Molly holding out the light purple bottle of nail polish.

"Help me."

Johnny's entire face twisted and he walked toward her. "What?" He asked, looking back and forth Molly and then the bottle in her hand with a disgusted look.

Molly lifted her unpolished right hand, wiggling her fingers to show off the bare color on them. Once Johnny stood at the opposite end of the table, she placed the bottle down right in front of him. "Help me with this hand." She said as if it were obvious, which it was.

Johnny looked down at the nail polish in front of him and then back to Molly, shaking his head. "I'm not painting your nails, Preston."

Molly frowned. A real frown that came with big eyes and fallen eyebrows that Johnny couldn't say no to. With a defeat groan and an obnoxious roll of his eyes, Johnny sat down in the seat across from Molly and held his hand out for the polish.

"Give me the damn bottle." He grumbled and Molly's frown was immediately washed away from her face and she happily placed the bottle in his hand.

Molly watched her hand as Johnny painted her nails. He was actually doing pretty well. After he did the first coat of her thumb and pointer finger, Molly looked up at Johnny, her smile softening as she watched how concentrated he was painting.

"I heard your having a girl. Are you excited?" Molly asked and when she watched the small smile grow on his face, Molly's smile deepened. Even though he was smiling, Johnny let out a small, nervous smile. "I don't know what to do. I've only ever had boys." Johnny explained and Molly's heart warmed hearing Johnny consider Miguel his boy.

Molly looked back down at her hands when she felt some polish get on her cuticles and nodded her head. "You'll be great." She whispered under her breath.

Johnny scoffed out a laugh at Molly's words, and eyed her through his eyebrows. "How do you know?" Johnny shot back, figuring Molly was just saying it to make him feel better about the baby coming.

But then he saw the smile on Molly's face and the way she sheepishly shrugged her shoulder, her shoulders raising in a nervous embarrassment. "I see how you are with Devon. And I know how you are with me. That baby is in lucky hands." Molly admitted, not really wanting to meet Johnny's eyes as she insinuated that she saw Johnny as a father figure.

Johnny would've smiled at that. He did see Molly and Devon as his kids, but the guilt of what he had planned for the night didn't let that happiness really shine through. Instead of smiling, Johnny frowned. It almost looked painful as he pulled his hands away from Molly's and closed the nail polish bottle.

"Look, now that you've just called me an amazing father figure to you, I feel guilty and I have to warn you." Johnny sighed and Molly started to fan her hands in the air to dry the polish faster. Her eyebrows furrowed and her head tilted in confusion.

"About what?" Molly asked with a confused smile and as if on cue, three pairs of footsteps started to come down the stairs. Molly and Johnny both turned their heads to the noise and just as Sam and Tory appeared walking into the basement to behind Devon, Johnny turned back to Molly.

Her eyes were wide and her breath caught in her throat. Johnny frowned, nodding his head to the stairwell the girls were halfway down by now. "That."

With a reluctant and now guilty sigh, Johnny pushed himself out of his seat at the table with Molly and forced a smile onto his face.

"Welcome to Miyagi-Do After Dark." He cheered, but the enthusiasm didn't really reach his voice so he was just yelling. Sam frowned, holding ber bag a little tighter as her eyes darted between Tory, then Johnny, and then Molly.

"I wouldn't call it that." She said and Johnny pursed his lips as he thought of a new name.

"Miyagi-Do Nights?"

Sam immediately shook her head. "No."

Molly hadn't moved an inch from her spot at the table. Her eyes were glued on Sam and Tory standing at the bottom of the stairwell. And the second Tory stepped further into the basement, Molly clenched her jaw so tight, she was shocked her teeth didn't shatter.

She watched carefully as Tory looked around the basement, and held back a laugh as she turned back to Johnny. "Wait. Is this a slumber party?"

Devon quickly ran over to Molly, she mouth a quick, "i'm sorry" to the girl before she grabbed her basket filled with different nail polishes and sped back to Tory and Sam. "I've never had a slumber party before. I didn't know what color nail polish you guys like so... I just got them all." Devon said, practically jumping in excitement.

Even though it killed Molly a tiny bit to hurt Devon with what she was about to say, Molly knew she wouldn't survive staying at this sleepover. She twisted closed the nail polish she was using and pushed herself out of her seat. She walked towards Devon, plopping the polish into the bin with the others and forced a smile onto her face.

"You know... I think once this coat dries, I'm gonna head home. It's a school night." Molly sighed, trying her hardest to sound sad saying that she would be leaving.

Devon's nose scrunched and she turned to the girl standing beside her with a confused look. "It's Saturday." Devon murmured and Molly shrugged without even thinking. She already dug her grave, might as well go lower.

"I've gotta start prepping for Monday."

Without even looking to her, Johnny raised a finger and pointed at Molly. "Preston, sit." He demanded and after getting a glare from Molly he could practically feel burning into the side of his head, he could see her sit down on the couch out of his peripheral vision.

Johnny nodded once, silently cheering himself on for actually getting Molly to stick around before he turned to finally look all four girls in the eyes. "You all need to get along." Johnny breathed out even though he was only really talking to two of the girls in the room. "We can't compete in the Sekai Taikai if our own team can't work together."

"And you think..." Sam's eyes moved behind Johnny and to the duffel bag at his feet. She cringed when she saw the contents inside of it and turned back to the man, raising her eyebrows. "Cookies and tampons are gonna fix everything?" She asked.

Yeah, Sam and Tory were good, but Sam wanted to be there for Molly and stand in her corner. Tory still hadn't apologized to the girl and Molly still hasn't gotten the closure she needed so in Sam's mind, this sleepover was a horrible idea.

But Johnny only smiled, nodding his head proudly. "Sure can try." He hummed, ignoring the annoyed looks on everyone's faces as he clapped his hands to get the girls excited. "Now, come on. Grab a sleeping bag. But the Mr. T one's mine." He said, quickly pointing to Sam and Tory as a threat.

...

After having a couple pillow fights, using the face masks Molly brought where Molly was suspiciously flicked on the side of the head after being forced to sit beside Tory, Devon pulled out a Ouija board and they started to ask questions one by one.

Johnny asked the board who was goons be winning the Super Bowl the next year and after getting grumbles of annoyance from all the girls, his question was skipped and the turn was given to Tory.

"Will Mitch ever win the All Valley?" Tory asked and without thinking about it, Molly snickered at the question. From beside her, Johnny turned to Tory across the table with a scrunched face. "Who the hell's Mitch?" He asked, making all four girls slowly turn to face him.

"...Penis breath." Molly said and Johnny's eyes widened. He pushed the piece to "no," shaking his head crazily.

"Nope."

"Okay, I'll go next." He said once they moved the piece back to the center. They all stared down at the piece, waiting for Johnny's question and for it to move.

"Does Tory want Molly to fall down a flight of stairs, breaking every bone in her little body?" Johnny asked, before he looked to Molly directly and shrugged. "You know, besides the ones that Tory already broke."

Molly was sure her heart stopped beating for a second as she stared back at Johnny. She felt sick to her stomach and just like that, her ribs and wrist ached as her mind flash back to the night at the old laser tag place.

She could feel Tory's eyes bore into the side of her head as Devon, who sat on the other side of Johnny, kicked the man on the shin hard.

"Ow!" Johnny yelped, ready to turn to Devon and scold her, but the girl was already leaning toward him, a small glare on her face.

"You know, if you're trying to make Molly not afraid anymore, you probably shouldn't make her think Tory wants to hurt her more." Devon whispered harshly, making sure she was quiet enough for none of the other girls to hear.

Johnny rolled his eyes, waving the girl off nonchalantly. "Trust me, Lee. I've got this all planned out." He snickered out and as he turned away from Devon, Molly pushed herself out of her chair with a loud scrapping noise against the hardwood and ran out of the house.

Every single pair of eyes watched Molly practically run up the stairs and once she was out of their line of sight, Devon turned to Johnny, her eyebrows raised in annoyance.

"You had that planned out?" She shot at the man and Johnny cursed under his breath, looking around the table to all three girls.

"I've got this." He whispered mainly to Sam after noticing her starting to stand up to follow Molly out.

Outside, Molly's chest was tight and her head was spinning as she pulled out her phone. With shaky hands, she opened her phone app and redialed her most recent call.

Molly brought the phone up to her ear and her throat suddenly felt like it was closing up, like once Eli answers the phone, she wouldn't be able to speak.

Molly's phone rang twice before Eli finally answered. He had to scream over the video game he and Demetri were playing and based on the fact that his voice sounded distant on top of that, Molly figured she was on speaker.

"Hey, baby. What's up? How's the sleepover?" Eli asked happily as he kept his eyes on the tv screen in front of him, not knowing what Johnny had in store for the night.

Molly swallowed the lump in her throat and took a deep breath of air to ease the pain in her throat before she spoke. "Yeah, um... it's not really going well. At all." Her voice was shaky and she wasn't really enunciating her words.

Immediately, Eli paused the game, he and Demetri turning to the phone Eli set between them on the couch.

Eli grabbed the phone and quickly turned it off speaker, bringing it to his ear. "Do you need me to pick you up?" He asked. Eli's voice was lower, but softer than earlier. His own heart sank and his throat felt like it was starting to tighten up thinking that Molly was having an attack alone.

Molly didn't even realize she answered with a panicked, "yes please" from her head starting to feel fuzzy. She felt it in her nose first, then behind her eyes, before she felt tingles across her entire face.

Slowly, the feeling started her legs grow weak and her hands slowly started to lose their grip on her phone as Eli answered. "Okay, Demetri and I are on our way now."

Molly nodded, starting to feel the panic crawl up her throat. She didn't care that Demetri was coming. In fact, she was relieved he was coming with Eli. Since they've gotten closer, Demetri's become one of the people to stop Molly's attacks fastest.

She forced herself to nod even though Eli couldn't see her. "Okay. I'll see you soon. I love you." Molly breathed out as the door to Devon's front door opened.

Molly's entire body tensed at the sound. She didn't even respond to Eli's, "I love you too. Bye." because she spun around the see who was walking out toward her.

Although Molly was relieved to see it was only Johnny walking out of the home, the panic didn't leave her body.

Johnny sighed as Molly pulled her phone away from her ear and shoved it into her pocket. Hearing the end of her conversation, it didn't take a genius to realize she called someone (most likely Eli) to come pick her up.

"Come on, Preston!" Johnny groaned, throwing his hand out to Molly's phone she just put away. His eyes shut in a tired annoyance and because of it, he couldn't see the pale look creeping over her face, and he didn't notice her shoulders trembling. From the doorway of Devon's house, she just looked like she was being stubborn. "Call Hawk back, tell him you don't want to go home and come back inside."

"Prest..." Johnny's words died in his throat the moment his eyes actually landed on her. Her chest was heaving too fast, and her hands were pressed against her thighs like it was keeping her up. "Molly?" His voice was quieter now, a tone Molly had never heard him speak before, even when Hawk broke up with her in sophomore year. "You okay?"

Molly shook her head, the tears that had building up in her eyes finally falling down her face. "Why did you do this? Why did you plan this whole night?" Molly yelled, her voice broke mid-sentence. It made Johnny wince.

He took a step toward her, his own heart rate speeding up. "Look, I know it's hard, but you and Nichols are a team now. You two need to work your shit out and—"

"I don't fucking care if I have to work shit out!"

She screamed it, and it stopped him cold.

"I can't work anything out when the girl who broke my wrist and ribs is right across the dojo acting like nothing happened!" The words stumbled out of her in one breath as Johnny got closer and closer to her. "I can't work anything out when I see her and miss our friendship yet I can't breathe because then I remember her standing over me with her foot on my chest! I can't work shit out if she doesn't make the first move!" Molly screamed, her head getting even more light-headed from how fast she was talking.

Her knees buckled and she collapsed onto the curb. She felt like all the strength to stand had been ripped out of her. Johnny immediately dropped beside her without even thinking. He ignored the jolting pain he felt when his knees hit the concrete as he reached out one hand to hover at her back, afraid to touch her too hard.

"Molly— Hey, breathe, okay? Just breathe—" Johnny whispered, rubbing the girls back and Molly tried really hard to listen to the man.

"I was fine with her joining Miyagi-Do." Molly gasped out, her forehead lowering toward her knees as a tiredness waved over her.

Her nose tingled, her stomach twisted, and everything felt like it was spinning. "Because that meant she was out of Cobra Kai and maybe she'd get better. But she hasn't apologized to me, she hasn't spoken to me, she's barely looked me in the eyes and somehow..." Her voice was so quiet, Johnny barely heard her. "I feel worse than I did when she was in Cobra Kai."

Johnny didn't have an answer. He was speechless, really. Johnny had never seen her like this. She looked so small. She was shaking and gripping herself so hard it looked like she was trying to rip her ribs out of her body.

"I haven't really known what to say."

Both their heads turned toward the voice and Molly froze. She could've sworn the air was sucked out of her lungs seeing Tory in the doorway. Her eyes were glassy under the porch light and for a second, neither girls moved.

Then Tory took a slow step forward. Molly's heart sank lower and lower every step Tory took toward her. Molly scrambled to her feet so fast it made her dizzy, swiping at her face to wipe away her tears. Her arms locked tight around her ribs as Tory stood just two feet away from her.

"When I saw you with Sam that day at the laser tag place..." Tory let out a sharp breath and looked away, blinking fast. Molly's arms were still tight around herself, her elbows digging into her sides.

"I felt betrayed by you and I just... snapped. I was already in a bad headspace and I—" Tory's voice caught, and she shook her head like she could get the memory out of her head. "I took it out on you." Tory whispered brokenly, finally looking up to Molly.

Molly's jaw tightened, but she didn't interrupt.

"I regret it every single day. You didn't deserve that. Not you. " Tory went on, tears falling down her cheeks now, as she shook her head rapidly. "I hurt you in one of the worst ways I could've, and then I didn't even have the guts to face you once I came to Miyagi-Do." She swallowed hard, her voice shaking. "You were one of the only people who actually gave a damn about me when I first got here. And I threw that away and I hate myself for it."

Then a sob ripped out of Tory before she could stop it. It caught Molly completely off guard. Her eyes widened and her body froze in shock. Even Johnny, who had been standing off to the side and watching, stared at Tory with wide eyes and instinctively took a small step back, like he wasn't sure if he was supposed to be here for this anymore.

"I can't believe I did that to your ribs." Tory cried, the words breaking as she said them.

That made the tightness in Molly's chest lightened. Slowly and almost unconsciously, her hands loosened from her ribs.

"I'm sorry, Molly." Tory completely to cry. She brought her hand up to wipe her eyes as she let out another small sob. "I don't expect you to forgive me. I just... I needed you to know I'm not proud of what I did. I'd give anything to take it back."

The lump in Molly's throat made it hard to speak, but she took a long and deep breath and finally she managed to speak. "I'm... not saying I forgive you." Molly whispered, forcing herself to look Tory in the eyes. "Not yet, at least. But..."

Tory and Johnny both perked up hearing that. Tory let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding in as Johnny took a small step forward, his eyebrows raised.

"Maybe we can try to get back to how we were. Eventually." Molly  breathed out, biting her lip as her mind yelled at her for speaking.

Tory's face lit up in relief and she let out a breathy laugh.  She didn't even think to throw her arms around Molly.

But Molly's heart sunk the second Tory's arms were around her. Her side ached with the phantom pain of Tory's kick, and it took a solid five seconds before Molly forced herself to barely return the hug Tory finally pulled her into.
