El Día de los Muertos

Happy, Day of the Dead!

(I greatly apologize if I get this wrong. I am not of any Hispanic/Mexican decent, so I'm not completely knowledgeable of the entire holiday, but I've learned a decent amount doing my own research and finding out from those who do celebrate it. I hope you enjoy and please inform me of any misrepresentations, or incorrect details. Thank you! This is also based a tad bit on Coco.)

The surface was beautiful. The streets covered in flower petals leading to different family homes. Every family was busy decorating and cooking for this beautiful day. They were all preparing for a very powerful day of the year. El Día de los Muertos, or better known in English as, the Day of the Dead. All the monsters from the underground were walking down the streets seeing the families preparing and the children playing. They smiled at the sight, finding it beautiful.

Sans and Papyrus were walking through the streets together and admired the different homes and their decorations. All the monsters were informed by Frisk about the holiday that was being celebrated, but the kid never elaborated much more on it other than it being about celebrating the lives of their ancestors. Sans found the tradition strange, but very sweet in its own way.

After walking for what felt like an hour, the brothers notice a little girl come walking towards them, holding a basket full of petals. "Hola!" She said, happily waving her tiny hand. The brothers smiled and waved back, though neither of them knew a stitch of Spanish, they both guessed 'hola' stood for hello. "Comó estas?" Papyrus looked at the girl confused, not knowing how to respond. Sans shook his skull, not knowing what to do. The girl tilted her head slightly, waiting for a response.

As soon as the girl was about to ask again, her mother came walking over. "Qué estás haciendo aquí?" The little girl quickly responded back and ran off. The mother shook her head towards her child. "I'm so sorry if she bothered you two." The woman said with a heavy accent. The brothers shook their heads. "Nah, the kid was fine. We just didn't understand what she was saying." Sans stated, smiling slightly. The woman nodded. "Yes, she has not learned much English yet." The woman, after introducing and vice versa, she offered to take the brothers to her home for the night, since they had no where else to go.

Papyrus immediately took the offer and thanked the kind woman profusely. "(Y/N)!" The woman called. The little girl came sprinting out of her room painting supplies in her small arms. "Qué haces con todo eso?" The girl smiled at her mother and held the paint up. "Quiero pintar nuestras caras!" Sans and Papyrus looked at the woman for interpretation. She chuckled to herself and looked at them. "She wants to paint our faces for the Day of the Dead celebration." Papyrus seemed super excited about the idea, though Sans was confused. They both decided to go for it.

The little girl, probably around 7-8 years old, held a mirror up to the skeletons' faces. They both gasped at their reflection. "Wow, kiddo. That's really good." "WOWIE, TINY HUMAN! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!" (Y/N) smiled at both of them, only knowing that they were happy and nothing more.

The mother, who introduced herself as (M/N), walked in handing both the brothers some clothes that she had. "These should fit you both well." The boys thanked her and went to get dressed, after being led by (Y/N) to the bathrooms in which they will be changing in.

A few minutes later, both the brothers came downstairs. "YOU LOOK GOOD, SANS!" Sans chuckled. "Thanks, Paps. So do you."

The little girl sprint over to the skeletons, nearly tripping twice on her way to them. "Bonita!" She said, smiling widely at the two. She then grabbed their hands and took them to her favorite spot in the entire city. The mariachi bands were playing and (Y/N) was dancing and giggling to her hearts content. Her mother watched as she got the skeletons to dance with her, both having no clue what they were doing.

After the final events of the day had come to a close, (M/N) carried her daughter back home with two skeletons following her as well. "You may take the downstairs bedroom." She said to them both. She then turned and smiled at them. "Gracias- I mean, thank you. Thank you both for being so kind and playing with my daughter. You made her so happy." The brothers nodded and smiled. "Thank you for letting us stay here and accepting us." (M/N) nodded and smiled. "Buenos Noches. Goodnight." She said, going to lay her daughter in bed. "Goodnight."

I hope you enjoyed! Have a wonderful day!
