Chapter 16 - Gone
Phil and I were hyper, so we had to leave the hotel room the next morning. Dan wasn't feeling well, so he stayed behind. We skipped out of the hotel.
Dan's POV
I was sitting on the bed on my computer, browsing tumblr. Suddenly, I heard a thump. Shrugging it off, I didn't move. About five minutes later, someone knocked on the door. Thinking they were back already, I got up to open it. As soon as I opened the door, a cloth was pressed to my mouth. The cloth smelled sweet. A single word flashed through my mind: chloroform.
Aurora's POV
An hour or so later, Phil and I decided to go back to the hotel. We had been at the park, running in circles. I opened the hotel room door. "Dan, we're back! I was thinking we could go to the- Dan?" I said. I looked around. He was no where to be found. A note was left on his abandoned laptop.
You have ten days.
Cold fear washed over me. Dan was gone, and I thought I knew who did it. "Phil," I whispered. "What?" he asked, walking into the room. He froze, taking in the scene. He collapsed on the bed, looking grief-stricken. Dan was his best friend. I sat next to him and hugged him tightly. We both held each other, terrified that one of us would be next.
That night, Phil and I slept next to each other. I snuggled into him. Slowly, the only sound was our silent sobs. Eventually, those slipped away. Silence is the loudest scream.
Dan's POV
I woke up in a dim room, my wrists bound tightly and a gag in my mouth. I was mentally slapping myself. Great job, Dan. This is the second time you've been kidnapped. Then, my thoughts travelled to Aurora and Phil. Were they okay? Were they looking for me? My thoughts were interrupted by a door opening. I lifted my head and saw a man. He had a girl with him, but she didn't look friendly. The man smiled. "Hello," he said. He and the girl circled behind me, and I didn't like not being able to see them. The sound of a door closed, and I was alone.
Or so I thought. I sensed the girl behind me, watching me. I shifted uncomfortably, memories resurfacing. However awkward this was, not one of us made a move to make it less awkward. The girl didn't speak, and I couldn't for obvious reasons.
For what seemed like forever, I was trapped in that stupid room. Finally, the door opened again. The man emerged from beyond, and he held a tray. He nodded to the girl, and with gentle fingers she untied the gag. Without a word, I accepted the tray and ate.
