five. got your back
Dylan didn't know why on Earth she was sprawled out in the backseat of Moon's car. What was supposed to be and "distancing cleanse" from the two girls lasted about two more weeks before Moon texted Dylan asking if she and Yasmine wanted to go see Pitch Perfect 3 in theaters.
Dylan's weak, give her a break.
When she asked Yasmine and Moon why Sam didn't come, the two girls told her Sam was busy watching Anthony and couldn't make it.
Now, the three girls sat parked in a random parking lot, passing around Moons weed. Dylan was a little bummed with the movie and decided that because her mood was so dampened, she was allowed to have her own joint.
Moon let out a n with giggle as she handed Dylan a bag of pre rolls, letting the girl choose which one she wanted. "My mom gave me this weed for my birthday, and she says it's, like, lower in calories or something." Moon muttered as Dylan took the bag. She grabbed a joint from inside and left the rest on her lap.
"Can I have a light?" Dylan asked, sticking her hand between the two front seats so one of the girls could light her joint.
Yasmine turned around and as she lit Dylan's joint, the two girls noticed a figure walk past Dylan's window. Dylan ignored it, figuring it was just someone walking to their car or into a store while Yasmine turned her head to see who was standing at the car.
Theo blonde screeched, throwing her hands—that were holding a lit lighter—into the air.
Dylan jumped back to save her nose from getting burnt from how close Yasmine had the lighter to her face.
"Ew! A homeless person! Don't look!" Yasmine screeched, her and Moon quickly staring down and away from the woman as Dylan stared at Yasmine with wide eyes.
"Yas, you almost burnt my nose off!" Dylan screamed, snatching the lighter out of the blondes hands. Dylan lit her joint as the homeless lady walked in front of the car, staring and waiting for one of the girls to look at her.
"I feel bad not looking at her." Moon whispered as if the lady could hear her from outside. Moon shakily lifted her head to see where the lady was and yelped when they made eye contact. She looked back down, shaking her head wildly.
"Oh, my God. We just made eye contact." Moon whispered and Dylan rolled her eyes, taking a deep inhale of the joint.
Yasmine slowly lifted her head to see where the woman was. She groaned when she noticed her walking toward Moon's window.
"Great, now she's coming over. You see what you've done?" Yasmine spat and Moon let out a small cry, not looking up from her lap out of fear.
"What do we do?" She cried and Dylan sighed, the smoke leaving her lips.
She moved across the backseat, grabbing her wallet out of her back pocket in the process. "You help her out." Dylan muttered once she got to the seat behind Moon.
Dylan started to roll down her window, making Moon let out another small whine and Yasmine yelped.
"What? Dylan!" Yasmine yelled as the woman walked up to Dylan's now rolled down window with a smile.
Dylan squinted at the sun beaming just behind the lady, but gave her a small smile as she handed her a 20 dollar bill.
"Here you go." Dylan said with a smile and the woman froze. Staring at the bill, she started to smile before she looked to Dylan.
"Thank you, sweetheart." The woman sang sweetly, taking the 20 out of Dylan's hands and walking away, leaving the girls alone in the parking lot again.
Just like Dylan expected.
Dylan rolled her window back up, raising her eyebrows at Yasmine and Moon in the front seats, wanting to say "I told you so," but she'd definitely get yelled at by Yasmine.
So instead, she said something very close to it.
"See? Was that so hard?"
Suddenly, the back passenger door swung open and all three girls screamed.
At the same time, Moon, Yasmine, and Dylan realized it was only Sam who had jumped into the car and they all let out breaths of relief.
Dylan would've hated to hear that "I told you so" if the homeless lady did end up actually murdering the girls in Moons car.
Then, Dylan remembered how Moon and Yasmine said Sam was busy having to watch Anthony at home. Her eyebrows furrowed, turning to Moon and Yasmine in the front seats.
"What the hell, Sam?" Yasmine screamed, her hand to her chest as she tried to catch her breath.
"We thought you were a poor person!" Moon cried and Dylan sighed again, looking away from the two girls. Her eyes moved to her hands and her posture perked when she remembered she had a joint in her hands.
As Dylan took a long drag of the joint in her hand, Sam looked between the two girls in the front seat with a small frown and a crease in her eyebrows.
"Why have you guys been avoiding me?" Sam asked and Dylan quickly blew out the smoke out of her mouth to turn and face Moon and Yasmine.
"You guys told me Sam was busy today." Dylan said, pointing between the two girls with the joint in her hands. Moon guiltily looked down at her lap as Yasmine rolled her eyes.
"We knew you'd be all whiny about it if we told you we were dodging Sam." Yasmine groaned out as if explaining herself was a hassle. Dylan rolled her eyes, taking another breath of her joint as Yasmine turned to face Sam, her face fallen into a glare.
"And why do you think? Kyler told us what you said." Yasmine spat and Dylan tuned back into the conversation, her eyebrows furrowed.
What the hell did Kyler tell them?
And why on Earth would they believe him?
Sam readjusted to lean closer to Moon and Yasmine, the confused look on her face quickly turning into one of panic. "Wait, what did he say?" Sam asked, her voice wavering as her eyes bounced between Moon and Yasmine.
Neither girls answered right away, only turning to each other and giving the same look as if they were they were telepathically speaking to each other.
Sam turned to Dylan, her eyebrows raised to ask if Dylan knew what Moon and Yasmine were talking about.
Dylan was quick to shake her head, mouthing a small, "i don't know" as her shoulders raised cluelessly. Sam huffed, turning back to Moon and Yasmine just as the blonde turned to face Dylan and Sam in the backseat, her lips curved into a scowl.
"He said that you think you're better than us." Yasmine hummed in a matter-of-fact tone before she looked Sam up and down. "You were no one before we let you in."
"You didn't even electrolocize." Moon spat and Dylan looked between the two girls, shocked that they would actually believe Kyler of all people.
Dylan let out a small laugh—this had to be a joke. "You really believe Kyler?" Dylan laughed out and Moon just stared at her, her mouth opening and closing for something to say while Yasmine glared at Dylan from next to Moon.
Sam nodded in agreement. She turned to face Dylan, to tell her thank you or even just give the girl a grateful smile, but Dylan was still looking at Moon and Yasmine, her laughter slowly dying down as she realized the two girls really did believe Kyler over Sam.
Sam pressed her lips together and turned back to Moon and Yasmine. "Dylan's right. I never said a word about either of you. That's not what went down." Sam tried to reason but Yasmine only laughed her in face, literally leaning closer to Sam to do it.
"Oh, Kyler told us what went down. And who went down." Yasmine said, eyeing Sam up and down.
Moon quickly turned back around to face Sam, shaking her head in disappointment. "And in a movie theater? That's yucky." She cringed.
Dylan blinked in shock, her heart sinking as she looked back and forth between Moon and Yasmine. Her mouth twisted into a frown and she froze. How could these girls in front of her be the same girls she grew up with?
Sam seemed just as speechless as Dylan. Her eyes bounced back and forth between the two girls as she tried to muster up something to say because how on Earth did they believe Kyler over her?
"Whatever Kyler told you was a lie." Sam said and Yasmine rolled her eyes.
Moon's eyes softened, shrugging her shoulders. "Sam, just say you're sorry, and we can all be friends again." She said and before Sam could even think about apologizing, Dylan jumped back into the conversation.
She felt her cheeks and ears start to burn as she glared at Moon and Yasmine. Dylan placed a hand on Sam's shoulder and gently pulled her back while she leaned forward.
"No! Sam doesn't have to apologize for anything because she didn't do anything wrong!" Dylan yelled. Sam's eyes widened at Dylan's volume and as the Lee girl started to shake her head crazily, Yasmine glared at her.
"If you're really gonna believe that misogynistic, brain dead, asshole over Sam then that's on you guys!" Dylan spat, leaning over Sam to open the girls door. Sam got the hint and started to climb out of Moons car while Dylan continued to glare at the two girls.
"Enjoy peaking in high school!"
With that, Dylan slammed the car door behind her so hard, Sam was shocked the window didn't shatter.
Every step she took away from Moon's car made Dylan angrier and angrier. She was mad at Moon, mad at Yasmine, mad that she lost the two people who have always been there for her.
Sam gave Dylan a small smile as the taller girl caught up to her.
"Thank you." She breathed out, pulling Dylan out of her thoughts.
Her head snapped up at Sam's words and immediately, Dylan's angry demeanor eased and she mustered up enough energy to give Sam a small smile.
She wrapped a lazy arm around Sam's shoulders and playfully bumped hips with her. "It was nothing. Like I said, I've got your back."
...
Dylan blocked Moon and Yasmine.
Even if they wound up being sorry for what they said, Dylan would want them to apologize in person, not over some toneless, emotionless text.
The weekend ended faster than Sam and Devon would've liked. The two girls spent the entire time at Sam's house; watching movies, making s'more's with the Larusso's fireplace, attempting to swim and immediately regretting it since it was winter—they had the time of their lives just the two of them,
When Monday came around, Sam was tempted to pretend to be sick, but Dylan forced her to go to show Kyler, Moon, and Yasmine that they didn't win.
That seemed to convince Sam.
By the time lunch rolled around, Sam was panicking about where to sit, but Dylan smiled and told the girl she had a plan.
So after grabbing their lunches from the lunch line, Dylan held her head high and led Sam to the table she suggested they sit at.
Sam wasn't expecting Dylan to led her at a table only sitting one boy.
Dylan saw Eli and Miguel further back in the line from her and Sam so only Demetri was at the table.
Demetri looked up when he saw two people coming toward the table out of his peripheral vision and even though he was stunned, he found a way to smile when he saw it was Dylan.
"Taking me up on that offer?" Demetri asked and he was shocked at how causal his own voice sounded.
Dylan smiled, placing her lunch tray in front of the seat next to Demetri. "If you'll have us." She asked and Demetri sputtered for words before he finally nodded his head frantically.
"I'll be right back." Sam muttered, her eyes glued on something across the cafeteria. She didn't even look down as she placed her lunch tray on the table and started to walk toward whatever had caught her attention.
Dylan turned to see what caught Sam's eye and as soon s she saw Kyler across the cafeteria laughing with his friends, Dylan's own eyes doubled in size.
"Wait, Sam!" She whispered after the girl, reaching out to grab the girls arm, but she missed it by inches.
Dylan didn't chase after Sam. She knew Sam's would want to confront Kyler on her own, but that didn't mean Dylan wasn't going to watch the interaction like a helicopter mom. She had her entire body twisted around the chair to watch Sam speak to him and Kyler just laugh in her face.
Sam suddenly grabbed Kyler's lunch tray and pushed it off the table, shutting him and his friends up instantly. Kyler glared at Sam, his jaw tightening as he took a small, but angry step toward her.
"Hey, guys!" Kyler yelled, getting everyone who wasn't paying attention already to look at him. He turned back to Sam and smirked. "You know that billboard with a big-ass dick on it? I guess Sam takes after her dad."
Dylan started to push herself out of her chair, but before she could even stand, Demetri grabbed her wrist to stop her.
"Oh, he's got it." Demetri whispered and when Dylan looked back down at Demetri, she noticed he wasn't even looking in Sam and Kyler's direction.
She turned to where Demetri was looking and saw him watching Miguel slowly walk toward Sam and Kyler. "Hey, Kyler!" Miguel yelled, making everyone turn to him as he stepped in between Sam and Kyler. "Why don't you shut the hell up and stop being such an asshole?"
Kyler chuckled, looking at Brucks behind him before turning back to Miguel. "Want another beatdown, 'Rhea? I'm ready for your lame-ass karate this time." Kyler said, completely forgetting about Sam as he pushed Miguel back by his shoulders.
Miguel shook his head, his eyes falling on the ground. "It's not lame-ass karate." He muttered. Kyler went to punch Miguel, but he caught it. Dylan gasped. "Oh shit." Dylan muttered, sitting back down next to Demetri, her eyes never leaving Miguel and Kyler.
"It's Cobra Kai." Miguel said before he punched Kyler in the face.
Dylan watched the fight with a unashamedly wide smile as every single one of Kyler's group tried to fight Miguel and failed.
"No mercy!" Aisha yelled a few tables away as Miguel ran toward his lunch table–the one Dylan and Demetri were currently sitting at.
Dylan's eyes widened and she grabbed a handful of Demetri's flannel, pulling him out of the seat and back toward the lunch line. "Out of the way. Out of the way!" She shrieked out, her back ramming into the wall behind her and Demetri's shoulder clashing into hers.
She watched as jumped onto his lunch table, grabbed Dylan's lunch tray, spun around, and hit Kyler in the face, knocking him out.
Dylan froze, staring up at Miguel with wide eyes. From beside her, Demetri whispered a, "holy shit" before the entire cafeteria erupted in cheers and started to circle the table he was standing on. Dylan could see Sam standing just at the edge of the table and she quickly pushed her way through the crowd to stand side by side with the girl.
When she got to Sam, Dylan watched the way Sam looked up at Miguel with a small smile and Miguel Stared back down at her with the same look. Dylan looked back and forth between the pair with a small smile when Counselor Blatt pushed her way through the crowd.
Everyone immeidately started to scatter and Dylan, Sam, and Miguel's smiles all dropped when the woman reached the table and grabbed Miguel's writst. "Hey! Hey! Get down from there right now!" She screamed, yanking Miguel off the table.
As Blatt led Miguel to her office, Dylan slowly turned to face Sam, her small smile turning into a smirk as she teasingly raised her eyebrows. "What was that?" Dylan sang, poking Sam's forearm tauntingly.
When Sam turned to Dylan, her face instantly started to turn a deep shade of red and she shook her head. "It was nothing." She muttered, but her eyes didn't meet Dylan's and her voice was higher than normal.
Dylan rolled her eyes and scoffed, smiling at Sam's horrible attempt to lie. "Nothing my ass." She muttered, going to take a seat at the table again before she noticed her lunch was thrown across it from when Miguel used her lunch tray to smack Kyler.
"I need to go get a new lunch." Dylan hummed.
