two. can't believe her

Dylan has had a pretty good first day of school so far. She had at least one of her friends in all of her classes for the first half of her day.

After her history class, which Dylan was actually really excited for, she headed to the cafeteria for lunch.

As soon as she walked out of the classroom, Dylan saw Moon waiting for her. Dylan smiled at the girl, readjusting her backpack strap on her shoulder. "What are you doing here?" Dylan asked and Moon sheepishly smiled, shrugging her shoulders.

"Figured I could have a buddy on the walk to the cafeteria. And I pass your class on the way there so..." Moon hummed as the two of them started to walk down the hall. She turned to face Dylan, her eyebrows raised.

"How are your classes so far?" Moon asked and Dylan pursed her lips.

"Pretty sure the guy that sits behind me in class sniffed me." Dylan laughed out, thinking about how she walked in from the back door of the classroom and accidentally bumped the kid that sits behind her, Demetri.

Moon cringed, Dylan laughed at the memory, shaking her head. "Oh, it's fine. I know he's harmless." Dylan waved off, Moon just shrugged after that.

They got into the lunch-line and as Dylan grabbed a tray, her eyes moved to Moon. "What about you? How were your classes?" Dylan asked and Moon shrugged, grabbing a salad from the lunch line.

"It was alright. I had to do this placement test in my geometry class to see where I'm at in the class which was like... totally not cool, but besides that, my classes have been fine." Moon explained as they both finished grabbing different things for their lunch.

Dylan left the line with spaghetti, a fruit cup, and an orange juice.

The two girls walked to their usual table and while Moon to the end of the table, Dylan sat diagonal to her with a seat open beside her for Sam.

"So..." Moon started, making Dylan look up from her food. "What's the vibe for this year? Are we manifesting straight A's or just surviving?"

Dylan snorted, twirling her fork in her spaghetti. "I don't think I can manifest anything until I remember my locker combo." She said and Moon chuckled while she looked around the cafeteria buzzing with noise: laughter, shouted greetings, the clatter of trays.

Moon leaned forward, lowering her voice and squinting at Dylan. "Alright, Dyl. Any predictions for drama this year?" She asked quietly.

Dylan paused, looking around the cafeteria. When her eyes landed on Kyler and Brucks in the lunch line, she nodded her head. "More of a hope than prediction, but Kyler will get into some kind of fight and lose."

Moon frowned at Dylan's words, almost pouting as her eyebrows furrowed. "I don't get why you don't like Kyler. He's really not that bad."

Dylan scoffed, rolled her eyes slightly. "That's like saying..." She looked away as she thought of some super villain. Before she could stop herself, Dylan said the first name that could come to mind. "Darth Maul isn't that bad."

Moon's eyebrows furrowed, not recognizing the name. "Who?"

Dylan froze, not realizing she made a Star Wars reference until after the words left her mouth. She stared at Moon with cartoonishly wide eyes. Her mouth opened to try and come up with something to save herself as Yasmine and Sam started to come over.

"Hey!" Dylan yelled a little louder than she intended out of nervousness, watching Yasmine and Sam make their way over. Moon turned to see who was coming over and smiled at her friends, completely forgetting her conversation with Dylan.

The two girls smiled at Dylan, Sam taking the open spot next to her and Yasmine sitting across from Moon.

"How are your guys classes so far?" Dylan asked and Yasmine immediately groaned, throwing her head back. "Ugh, chemistry was so lame. Mrs. Walters didn't let us choose table partners, so I got stuck with some loser." Yasmine complained, poking at her food with her fork.

Dylan nodded her head even though Yasmine's comment irked her a bit. She looked around the cafeteria and locked eyes with a table of three boys staring directly at her and her friends.

Out of the three boys, only one had the right mind to look away from her when she caught them staring: a boy she's had classes with since kindergarten, Eli Moskowitz.

Next to him was Demetri Alexopoulos, the boy Dylan saved from the wrath of Kyler once and also the kid that sits behind her in English. The other boy was someone Dylan didn't recognize. Figuring that he was new, Dylan shrugged it off and looked back down at her lunch tray.

But Yasmine's eyes noticed Dylan staring at a table and her eyes followed Dylan's line of sight until she saw the table of three boys.

She let out a loud laugh, making Dylan, Moon, and Sam all look up from their lunches. Dylan noticed the smirk on Yasmine's face as she twirled her hair and Dylan's heart sank, already preparing herself for whatever mean comment Yasmine would make about some undeserving classmate.

"Speaking of losers... You see that guy over there who looks like he went down on a lawnmower?" Yasmine giggled out.

Dylan's eyes shut in disappointment. She didn't even have to look at where Yasmine was looking to know she was talking about Eli.

"He's literally wearing the ugliest sweater I've ever seen." Yasmine said, her comment making both Sam and Moon hunch over and laugh.

Dylan licked her teeth and shook her head. Slowly, she looked up at Yasmine and glared at her. "Why would you say that?" Dylan asked.

Her friends laughter died out when Dylan spoke, her question immediately ruining the moment.

Yasmines eyebrows furrowed. She looked to Eli's table before she turned back to Dylan in confusion. "What about his sweater?" Yasmine asked and Dylan's glare turned into a squint. "It's so last season." Yasmine added, not noticing Dylan's expression shift.

Then, Yasmine looked back to Eli and after eyeing him for a few more seconds, she cringed. "Actually... I don't think it was ever in season." Yasmine laughed out.

Dylan straightened in her seat, shaking her head. How is that what Yasmine thinks she's talking about? "What? No, I'm not talking about his sweater." Dylan said and Yasmine's eyebrows furrowed, still twirling her hair between her fingers as she pouted.

"You shouldn't have made a comment about his scar." Dylan said and Yasmine's entire face scrunched.

Sam watched Yasmine and Dylan from in between them and decided that if this went any further, Dylan should have someone in her corner.

"Yeah, Yas. It was like... so wrong." Sam muttered, too nervous to meet Yasmine's eyes.

Yasmine looked back and forth between Dylan and Sam, her eyebrows furrowed. "What..." She muttered under her breath, confused as to why they had a problem with what she said. Dylan, Yasmine was used to her constantly commenting about her insults, but Sam's never had a problems till now.

She rolled her eyes and looked away from her friends. Her eyes scanned her classmates, like a predator searching for its prey.

When her eyes fell on Aisha, Yasmine snickered, any feeling or thoughts she had about Sam and Dylan's last comments completely leaving her mind. "Speaking of wrong, check out Fug-lisha. She looks like she ate a picnic table."

Dylan looked across the cafeteria and found Aisha wearing a pink shirt and a gingham button up. As Moon and Yasmine laughed around her, Dylan noticed Sam finally stopped feeding into Yasmine's negativity.

But when Aisha looked up to Dylan's table and sent a weak smile to Sam beside her, Dylan felt her stomach churn. She was hated how Yasmine would make fun of such sweet kids.

She suddenly dropped her fork, completely forgetting about the spaghetti in front of her. She nervously to try and relieve her dry thought as she fumbled to grab her backpack at her feet.

"Hey, I think I forgot my headphones in Mr. Hudson's class. I'll be right back." Dylan quickly said, throwing her backpack over her shoulder as she stood up.

None of the girls questioned her and instead, just said goodbye as she walked away.

As Dylan left her table, she passed the same new kid that was just sitting with Demetri and Eli. He was staring at her table as he slowly walked toward it before he noticed Dylan heading in his direction.

Dylan smiled at him, not wanting her anger toward Yasmine to rub off on the other people around her. The boy nervously smiled back and both of them continued walking past each other.

Dylan's eyes then found Demetri and Eli's table. The two boys were looking back and forth between their new friend walking toward the popular table and Dylan leaving said table.

She smiled at the two boys and kept her eyes on Eli for a moment. "Cute sweater!" Dylan sand and Eli looked at his his soul left his body. His entire falls paled before it turned a bright shade of red. He didn't respond to her, didn't smile or anything, only stared at her with wide eyes and a slacked jaw.

And as Dylan continued to walk out of the cafeteria, she completely missed Demetri whacking Eli's shoulder in excitement, knocking him out of whatever spell he got put under from Dylan talking to him.

"Oh my God. Dylan Lee just spoke to you!"
