"You're The Chosen One"
Outer stared at the living god before him, his hands tucked in his pockets. Wow. "Pardon?"
He only heard of these kind of beings in rumors and fairy tales. Never in his whole life had he imagined that one would be talking to him right now. The skeleton smiled, his eye-lights flickering to stars and then back to its unique mismatched look. "You are the chosen one."
"The chosen one?" Outer let out a slow whistle. "Sounds important."
"Indeed you are, pal!" The god picked up their signature paintbrush and twirled it around, slamming it into the ground to lean against. He smiled and waved his hands in a grand gesture. "You'll be coming with me to save the whole entire multiverse from the true evil of this world! It will be absolutely awesome!" The skeleton squealed that last part, the excitement completely visible.
Outer nodded, smiling himself. "Wow, really? I can't believe you're asking me of all people. I mean, there must be some folks out there which are more helpful than I am."
The god stood, quickly scoffing and shaking his skull. "Please, no one is stronger than you, Dream!"
Outer paused. "Hm?"
The god smiled. "Don't worry, with your powers, we can team up to stop your horrible brother once and for all!"
Was this guy serious? The skeleton pulled his hands from his pockets, slowly shaking his skull. "Wait, hold on buddy. I'm Outer. I think you got the wrong person."
The god gasped before groaning loudly. "WAIT, REALLY? PLEASE TELL ME I DIDN'T!! THIS IS DREAMTALE, RIGHT??"
Outer shook his head some more. "Sorry, pal. You're in the wrong place."
The colorful skeleton groaned, his 'eyes' flipping to sorrowful triangles and squares. "COME ON!"
The other stood there, scratching his face for a moment before walking over to the distressed deity. "Hey, I'm sure you'll reach him soon. Just... uh, don't give up and you should be fine."
The god sniffed, wiping an imaginary tear away before nodding. "You're right! I mean, fifteenth times the charm, right? Thanks." He stood, regaining his godly demeanor before nodding to Outer, splattering paint onto the rocky soil and jumping into it.
Outer stared at the puddle of paint, scratching his face again in thought. He had almost been accidentally recruited into something a lot bigger than himself. He sighed, smiling.
Good thing he hadn't.
