Ch. 5: Trick or Treat

I took a deep breath and adjusted the magical ornament under my shirt, making sure no one could possibly see it. I kind of felt a little dangerous with it, like I could could back in time and kill Hitler if I wanted.

Arching a brow, I turned to Hermione before opening the Great Hall doors so we could enter for dinner. "Hermione - has any one ever tried to kill Hitler with a time turner?"

Hermione scowled at me, making a shushing noise and scanned the halls, making sure no one was listening. Dumbledore and Fred had walked into the Great Hall while McGonagall was breaking the law with me and 'Mione. I smirked at how awesome that sounded. Professor McGonagall - breaking the law.

"Look, Elle." Hermione placed her hands on my shoulders and peered deeply into my eyes - being sure to enforce her sisterly bond through intelligent advise. "You must not use that device for anything other than school. I don't know what other people have done - the Ministry likes to keep these things top secret. All I know is, this is dangerous business - people who time travel put not only themselves, but others they know at risk. Stay cautious of what you do."

Sighing, I nodded and turned away from her pleading eyes. "Okay - I won't kill Hitler." I whined a little, only joking. I mean, sure I was good with a lamp, but I didn't stand a chance against Hitler. I grinned a little, remembering I had magic, I didn't need a lamp.

Hermione glared at me, watching the grin spread onto my face. "Promise me."

     "Promis-? Hermione, I'm only joking!"

She stuck her nose in the air and shot me a cool look, something an older sibling would do. It reminded me that I still had to ask which one of us was born first. "Than you can promise."

Rolling my eyes, I stuck my hand up in the air. "I, Elizabeth Rose Granger, promise not to assassinate Adolf Hitler." Hermione smiled a little, nodding in approval, then opened the door to the Great Hall were everyone was chattering amongst themselves, excited for the upcoming holiday.

In my imagination, I had pictured the Hall getting deadly quiet as I walked in - all eyes on me; but that wasn't the case. In reality the Great Hall got louder, the whole Gryffindor table's eyes on mine while the rest of the room desperately attempted to avoid my gaze.

"Tough crowd." I murmured under my breath, name begun circulating through the crowds with a buzz. Let the rumors begin. Some cynical part of me wanted to yell: "I'm pregnant." to feed their ridiculous rumors.

Walking up to the Gryffindor table, I spread my arms out wide with a grin. "I'm home." I greeted them all. A lot of them gave me weird looks, but only the ones I didn't know. The middle section of the table erupted in cheers and I was tackled in a hug.

Slightly taken a back, I looked down at the one who's attacked me, surprised it wasn't Blake but Ginny. "You missed me, huh?" I smiled lightly and hugged her back, she'd gotten even taller to my dismay. If she grew any more, she would be taller than I. Weasleys.

Ginny grinned with a happy nod. Her eyes danced across my face as she stepped back and tossed her long auburn hair over her shoulder with a puffed-up pride. "Yes, it's been boring without you all."

I smirked at her, sitting between her and Hermione. "Aw, shucks - that means a lot to me." I paused, ignoring Fred as he turned to George asking him what 'shucks' meant. "Wait, you all? Where is..." I frowned and turned my head, feeling terror spike through me. I'd lost my stalkers. "Where's Jenna? And what ever happened to... to Lana?"

Hermione lowered her eyes to the table and sighed. "A lot happened when you were unconscious."

"No shit." I nodded, prodding her to continue with her explanations. I was completely in the dark with everything. "What's happened?"

Ginny stabbed her salad harshly and look me in the eyes. "Jenna's family moved her back to America. They were afraid after everything that has happened here. Just like many parents. A lot of people have actually left Hogwarts from Dumbledore and Harry's claim. They either think the school is run by loons, or they are terrified of You-Know-Who."

I rubbed my temples, remembering how Hermione and Fred explained Harry telling everyone that he'd seen Voldemort in person - been cut by him. Frowning, I suddenly felt the weight of the situation. I had been attacked by a Death Eater - I and Lana both.

"The Ministry thinks Dumbledore is up to something, that's why Umbridge is here. And it's complete rubbish." Hermione scowled, stabbing her fork into an innocent slice of shepherd's pie. "She doesn't teach us anything and what we do learn is completely made for children."

Ron nodded, cramming some potatoes in his mouth, white cream slipping from the corner of his mouth as he started to talk. " 'S true. We d't ev'n us' -"

Hermione sent him a deathly glare that screamed: If you speak one more syllable with all that food in your mouth, I will personally disembowel you.

Ron's face paled and swallowed his food, coughing a little. I refrained from laughing at this - they haven't changed in the slightest. "I was sayin' that we don't even get to use our wands in class."

"But...," there was a slight pause as I pondered the absurdity. "It's Defense Against the Dark Arts class. How can you not use your wands?" I shook my head, this didn't make any sense to me. I didn't even realise at the moment that they'd completely changed the subject.

"Exactly, Letter. That's the point." Fred smirked at me as I grabbed a plate of shepherd's pie and marmalade.

Hermione leaned in close to me, whispering lowly in my ear. "That's why I've been thinking up a plan to get everyone, who wants to, prepared in case we ever really get attacked." She looked around, making sure no one was listening in. "But, I still have to convince Harry -- maybe you could help."

Surprised, I turned to her with my lips upturned in a wonky smile. "Wow, this is so unlike you - first the thing with McGonagall now this?" I faked a sob of pride and rested a hand on her shoulder, wiping under my eyes. "I'm so proud of you."

Hermione rolled her eyes and sipped her drink. "This is serious, though. I wouldn't have done it on a regular occasion, unlike some people." She smirked at the thought, despite herself.

I hummed to myself, acting completely oblivious and looked up at the starry ceiling. "Hmm, I wonder who you could be talking about." I smiled softly, feeling a warm sensation in my chest as I looked around the table. It was comforting, being here. I was home.

-

It was an odd feeling, going up to the fifth year dorm without Jenna and Lana. It was lonely, and slightly depressing. I realized then that no one had mentioned Lana to me. It was killing me, the sense of not knowing.

I turned in my bed, the cotton sheets scratchy and like a vice as it twisted around my legs. I fought them off roughly and squinted maliciously in the dark. I glared at the bed Hermione was occupying, thoughts of Lana and Jenna circling.

"Hermione?" I whispered but was only answered by light breathing from her and the others in the room. They were all out. I had to now wait until morning for an answer.

The night's long hours blurred on into a Picasso of time. I couldn't recall what time I'd fallen asleep, but what I did know was that it was a light sleep, a faint breath of reprieve from the anxiety that was worming through my mind and my heart.

'After all,' I thought humorlessly in the dark, 'my body had absorbed more than enough sleep for the next year'.

Just as my anxious mind began to wander back to a dreamless stupor, a muffled screech filtered up from the Common Room stairs.

The sound was so loud, so piercingly obnoxious and terrifying, I felt myself yank out of my sleep and tumble out of my four-poster bed onto the heartless bitch called the wooden floor.

Moaning, I rubbed my head and looked around the room to find other Gryffindor girls staring at the door in terror. No one made any move to check out who was dying below us. "What the hell?" I groaned and rubbed at a steadily growing bump on the side of my head.

I watched the other girls and Hermione watch the door in concern, but no one made any effort to check it out. "What a bunch of pansies," I sighed, rolling onto my feet. I hand grazed the doorknob, but one of the girls that I didn't know called out, voice wavering in fear.

"N-no, don't do it! You don't know what's out there!"

I smirked a little. "Come on, girls. We are fifth years! If we can't defend ourselves by now - what good will we be in adult life?"

"Yeah!" Hermione's eyes sparked a little at this. "She's right. Why aren't we being taught to protect ourselves? We need to be able to defend ourselves properly. That's why we are setting up a club to properly prepare ourselves - if you are interested, I will be getting the details laid out soon."

The girls quivered slightly, looking at each other in nervous unison.

Yawning a little, I yanked the door open and trudged down the stairs. No one followed me, but I clenched my wand tightly in my hand as I went to check out the sounds. My heart began to pound slightly in my chest, my ears were met with complete silence while I descended the staircase, slowly reaching the Common Room.

I held my wand out in front of me cautiously. It was sickening and sudden, but my mind pooled the memories from the attack. The Moody impostor bobbed in and out of my mind like a phantom in the room. Turning the corner, there was the sound of snickers, and a low growl noise came from behind the couch.

The laughs eased my tension, but only slightly. Cocking a brow, I licked my lips nervously and called out, "H-hello? You alright down here?"

"RAWR!" A loud, deep roar echoed through my head as a shadow jumped out from the left of me, the sound making me shriek lightly and point my wand at the figure.

"Aguamenti!" I breathed out, feeling slightly faint as my heart pulsed in my throat. A thick blast of water shot out of my wand tip and dowsed the figure in the ice cool liquid.

The figure shrieked a little and tore the plastic monster mask off of their head, revealing Lee Jordan. "Christ, that's freezing!" He moaned. "Why'd you do that? Why are you Weasley girls so attack - prone?"

Now that I could see him without the mask, I wondered why I'd been scared in the first place. It was such an obvious Jordan and crew thing to do. I giggled at him as he swiped at his drenched face, droplets of water dripping from his dreadlocks and his chin.

I pocketed my wand, examining the weirdo in front of me. "You Weasley girls?" I raised a brow, shaking my head in dismay. "What are you talking about?"

There was a shriek and I was jumped on a little, a body nuzzling against me. "ELIZA!" She cheered in my ear, blue eyes twinkling slightly. "You're alive!"

Surprised by the sudden hug, I stumbled for a moment but returned it. "Blake!" I grinned, glad that one of my crazy friends was still here. "Where the hell did you pop out from?" I glanced from Lee to Blake, wondering what they could possibly be up to at this time of night, prowling around the Gryffindor Common Rooms like a bunch of loons in face masks.

Blake detached herself from me and sighed, running a shaky hand through her hair. "I'm sorry..." She murmured a little under her breath.

Frowning slightly, I brushed my bedhead out of my face and behind my ear with a confused twist on my face. "Uh - what are you talking about- AHH!" I felt myself shrieking once again as a pair of arms wrapped around my torso a lifted me into the air.

"Mwhahahaha!" An evil cackle sounded from under me.

Blake chuckled and threw a hand over her face. "It's a trap, sorry!"

I gasped at her, kicking lightly as the hands holding me in the air tickled against my skin. "Blake! You sneak - I'll get you back for that one!" She only stuck her tongue out at me in response. It was then that I realized she was the one who had screamed earlier.

I was set down on the floor and confronted face to face with none other than Fred Weasley. Lightly, he traced a hand up the back of my neck and pressed his lips against mine with a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

My heart begun to pump wildly once again, but this time for better reasons as I entangled my hand into his  short, fresh cut hair and kissed him back lightly.

He grinned and pulled away, leaning in close to my ear he chuckled, "Trick or treat."

One of my most favorite comments on the last chapter (there were a lot of really good ones) is from wantmorethanthisss : "OH MY GOD COULD YOU UPDATE ANY SLOWER?! I mean, seriously, woman, people are dying over here! Do you know, that there is actually a disease called Lacko' Frelle? Hum? Did you? If you did, that's odd because I just made that up. But, anywho, you do need to update before I die from that disease. Seriously, it's a real health condition. And I like to live. Please."

Haha - I seriously loved that - and sorry, I guess I was just having little inspiration for this story - but no need to fear! I have begun to get it back!

Sorry that this chapter was a little short, I'll try to update soon - did you like the Frelle I added into this? xxJess
