TILL THE END OF THE LINE : H . P

Some stories do not get happy ending, like the story of (Y/N) and Harry. You were in love with Harry for years, but tried to hide it. On your fourth year, you were going to ask Harry if he had a date for the Yule ball, in which he just replied he will ask Cho Chang. You replaced your disappointed look with a fake smile and smiled nonetheless. You were happy for him, since you knew how much he fancied Cho. However, you knew that Cedric had asked her already to the dance and she had agreed to it. You decided that it was best for Harry to find it out himself.

You ended up going with Draco Malfoy, despite Hermione's complain which you agreed on. That evening, at least, the blonde slithering boy did not complain about blood status which was something he knew annoyed you. You danced, and had a brief talk. It was not has bad as you would have thought, but just as quick as happiness comes it can be taken away. That evening in the Yule Ball whilst you danced and laughed Harry and Ron watched from a distance. Ron dropped a comment here and there to Harry, but Harry on the other hand felt somewhat portrayed that you will agreed to go on a dance with the boy he disputed the most with. It was that evening that Harry Potter stopped talking to you.

Hermione tried to encourage Harry to talk to you, but he refused too. She knew it hurt you, because you did not know what you had done wrong. The last time you tried to talk to him, was a two weeks before summer break started. You were clutching your books tightly as you walked up to him and Ron. They were sitting a few meters away from the Whomping Willow.

"Harry," You called out. The two best friends turned around to face you. Ron waved at you, and you waved back but Harry did not. "Good afternoon, Ron. What are you guys doing?" You said, trying to start a conversation. Ron looked between Harry and you, smiling back at your question.

"Just...quidditch." Ron lied. He knew that if you were to know that Harry was talking bad about you, you would have felt more hurt than you already were.

You gave a kind smile to Ron. "That's lovely." You told him. You looked at your books and then back at them. "I will recommend reading Quiddicth Through Time. It's at the school's library. It is perfect for quidditch lovers." You commented to them. You turned to Harry, who was looking at his shoes. "I just...wanted to know why you are not talking to me. I haven't done anything wrong, and I'm confused on why you are not speaking to me anymore Harry. I just want to know what happen. I have been wondering that this past couple of months." You told him. "Well, when you are ready to talk, send me an owl. I hope you have a nice next few weeks. Both of you." You told them, fixing your yellow and brown tie. You nodded at them before leaving.

Ron smacked Harry on the arm. "What the bloody hell is wrong with you?" Ron asked Harry.

"She went to the Yule Ball with Malfoy. She is probably swooning over him right now."  Harry replied to him. Ron sighed.

"Did you knew that she has stood up for you when you are not around. She was your friend before the Yule Ball, and I bet she would have accepted if you had asked her to the Yule Ball." Ron told Harry. "But you didn't. You went to Cho Chang and then to the Pavarti twins. You can't be mad at her for a least trying to have fun." Ron told him.

Harry looked at him. "You sounded like Hermione." The boy with the glasses added.

The red head shrugged. "Well, she is always right after all." He added. He then turned back to the issue at hand. "I think she fancies you. The way she does not look as happy as she once was when you used to talk to her. She will defend any of her friends until the end of the line." Ron told him, before standing from the grass. "If you will excuse me. I am going to get the candy she got from her grandmother. She sended chocolate frogs and she wanted me to have a whole pack of them. Said she would not eat that much candy by herself." Ron told Harry.

"I will catch up with you later." Harry told him. Ron shrugged and left the boy with the glasses thinking. As Ron said, Hermione is always right.

. . . .

Summer arrived and left as quickly as it came. You had had a great summer, visiting family and friends. You gave up on sending letters to Harry, and waiting for his back. If he did not want anything to you with you, then you would not neither. You heard your parents talking to somebody downstairs, and as you passed old pictures of your friends, including the ones with Harry on the first year at Hogwarts. You were surprised to see the principal standing in front of your chimney.

Professor Dumbledore looked at you through his glasses. "Good afternoon, Ms.y/l/n. I am here to pick you up for an important meeting you must attend to...and something I will need help with." The Professor told you.

You nodded at him. A woman came out of the kitchen with a plate of pie on her hands. You recognized her briefly, noticing her from old pictures of the Hufflepuff house. The woman turned to you and smiled. "Hi, I'm Tonks. You must be y/n. Nice to see that there are other Hufflepuff out there still." Tonks told you. You smiled at her.

"Tonks holds pride on her house." Dumbledore stated, nodding towards the woman.

You smiled at her. "So do I." You stated. "I will go and get my things Professor." You told him, smiling at your parents before going back to the bedroom.

It did not took long for you, Tonks and Dumbledore to arrive at 12 Grimuld Place. You look at Tonks with questionably doubt. "Why are we here exactly?" You asked her.

The woman smiled at you. "You will see." She stated, and you both turned around you were able to see the buildings separate into two which reveled another door. Dumbledore stepped first, motioning you two to follow. When he opened the door, you frowned looking at the deep hall. Following his footsteps, you walked inside a room where a huge table sat in the middle of it. You looked around noticing Professor Snape and the professor of DADA of your fourth year: Remus Lupin.

"Good afternoon Professors." You said, nodding politely at the two teachers. Professor Lupin smiled at you. "Nice to see you, Professor Lupin. Your a missed by many of your students sir." You told kindly to the man. You froze when you felt arms wrap around you. Recognizing the red curly hair of the kind woman, you hugged back. "Hello, Mrs.Weasley." You greeted her.

"Always so polite. Look at you!" She said, and you smiled brighter. "I will lead you to your room, darling. You must be tired, and hungry too. Dinner will be ready in a bit." She said, and you followed. You looked up the stairs noticing a set of faces. You waved at them.

"Blimey, y/n arrived nobody told us." Fred told his brother.

"You are right Fred. They leave out the fact that our dear Hufflepuff friend has arrived. Unbelievable." George replied. Your smiled widen at their talk.

"What's she doing here?" You heard Harry asked. Your smiled shifted a little, before following Mrs.Weasley up the stairs.

Once you were at the same floor, you avoided Harry's eye. You followed Mrs.Weasley up to your designated room, which you will be sharing with the twins. You dropped your truck next to the bed, and sat there. You jumped when you heard a crashing behind you.

Fred and George smiled at you. "Hey, y/n." They said, smiling up to me.

"Hi, boys." You told them.

"We are quite proud of you putting smelly bombs in Draco's backpack" Fred stated.

You smiled at them. "After he teased us and Ron at the end of last year." George continued

You smiled kindly at them and nodded. "You guys are my friends. I was not going to stay silent about it." You told them, not knowing that Harry had been listening to the conversation behind the door.

"We just wanted to tell you that you were very brave during the summer. We heard the news about the attack on the train." Fred  said to you. You smiled. Over the summer, a muggle train statation had been attacked by Death Eaters, so you stepped up and tried to protect them as much as you could.

"You could have been killed." George added. You shrugged at them, not worrying at this minute about what could have happened.

"We must be brave now. Specially since Voldemort is back. We got to do something about it." You explained to them. Harry frowned listening to the conversation. He did not know about the incident. But who could have blame him? The Ministry of Magic had kept it low profile.

Harry walked away from the door and walked up to his room. "Ron, Hermione...w-what happened to y/n on the train station this summer?" Harry asked his friends. His curiosity getting the best of him.

Hermione frowned. "That's none of your business Harry. Last time I checked you didn't want to hear anything that involved y/n/n" Hermione stated.

Ron sighed, looking at Harry. "It was bad. From what I have heard, she spened a good time in St.Mungos because of it." Ron told Harry. "My mom and dad went there to visit her. They mentioned a few things but get most of it silent. Fred and George didn't say anything even though they always talk to her." Ron told Harry.

Harry nodded at him. "But, what happened?" Harry asked them, looking at the two of them.

Ron looked down at the floor. "Death Eaters. They attacked a muggle train station in the south of Scotland...close to where she lives." Ron told him. He made a long pause, almost trying to grasp the reality of the situation his former best friend lived. "She defended the muggles there...but..." Ron could not finish the sentence because Hermione finished it for him.

"She got hit by various Crutios spells all at the same time. She was out for a good couple of weeks, Harry. I-We thought that she was never going to wake up." Hermione explained. Harry looked up to her, frowning at the information. He was consumed with his anger towards Malfoy, and ignoring you that he did not know you were close to death..and it would not be the first time.

"You know. You should patch up things with her. Voldermort is pack. A war might break at any seconds. Friends and family have to be cherish before they are gone." Hermione added, after a long moment of silence. A knock on the door startle the both of them.

"Um...hi. I just wanted to tell you that Crookshanks is with me. If...you ever get worry he has gone missing." You told Hermione, and stuttering when you saw Harry. You had the orange furry cat in your arms. You were not a fan of cats but this one warmed up to you.

"See. Crookshanks trusts her. You can too Harry. I'm telling you, that cat is smarter than all of us." Ron whispered to Harry. Harry smiled, holding back a laugh. Ron was correct, and he knew it.

You heard Harry snort, making you frown. You looked down at the floor, automatically thinking he might have commented something bad about. You held your head high though. "I will see you all later." You told them. You heard Harry called your name, but you ignored him. He did followed you, calling out for you. You opened the door to your room, but he closed it quickly.

"What the hell are you doing? Honestly, I thought you had at least some kind of manners. It's rude to close people's doors when they are trying to enter a room." You snapped at him. Harry was caught off guard by the tone of your voice.

"I'm sorry about...everything. I'm sorry that I have not been a good friend to you. I'm sorry that I ignored you, and I was a bloody git by doing that. If you wanted punch me, which I know you really want feel free to do so. I deserve it." Harry said, quickly. He carried on babbling about how he should have been a better friend, and a better person. How he should not have let his feelings get the best of him.

Yours eyes widen when he mentioned that he was jealous of Malfoy talking you to the Yule ball. "Wait. You got that mad at me for just going to the dance with Malfoy? You got all worked up because of just a stupid dance between friends?" You told him, cutting him off. Harry did not answered your question because he did not any words to use. "I was waiting for you to ask me, but you never did. I would have said yes to you in heartbeat. I went with Malfoy because he asked me, and I accepted. He kindly asked me out, and I made a deal with him. If I went to the dance with him, then he will stop annoying you, Hermione and Ron. That didn't last as long as I expected, but he did kept his promise. You explained to him. Harry was out of words. You sighed stroking the cat's mane. "Look, just an apology will not make me your friend again. You must do something else than just words. I'm going to my room, and please leave me alone, Harry." You told him before closing the door after you.

"Boys are so annoying sometimes, buddy." You told the cat.

. . . .

As the year went on, Harry seemed to trust you more and more. This was a surprise to you after he spended so much time ignoring you. It was not until Draco started to question you about your regained friendship with Potter and his friends that you started to worry. You lied about their location. You lied about how you spended some of your afternoons.

Harry knew that you were loyal. He learned it the hard way when you got detention with Umbriged because you stuck up for him. He did the same the following day when the 'pink toad' - as everyone called Umbridge - told you that your efforts on saving the muggles was pointless; and that you should not have been in Hogwarts this year. Harry exploded on that class, earning him double detention with the woman. You sat quietly next to Draco Malfoy, on the seat assigned by Umbridge. Draco was going to defend you, but you told me he couldn't because of what punishment his father might have had for him.

However, whilst you kept your distance from Harry and helped him with the secret DADA class he had. Harry had forgotten about Cho Chang. Although, you had no idea about this. He started to appreciate your aid in the classes, and your company. He asked you on picnics and practices in the Quidditch cords, hoping you will forgive him. You knew he was trying hard to show you how guilty he felt. You appreciated though.

One afternoon in late November, you sat quietly in under a tree. You remembered how the previous year Draco had turned into a ferret the previous school year, next to the very same tree. A small laugh escape your lips. "What are you laughing at?" You heard Harry ask from behind you. You turned to look him from over your shoulder. You gave him a small smile.

"Nothing." You told him.

"I could really some joke right now." Harry smoothly said, sitting next to you.

You shrugged. "I just remembered when Draco was turned into a ferret." You mentioned.

A huge smile appeared on Harry's face. You smiled back at him. "Hey...I-I wanted to talk to you about something." Harry said, causing you to frown.

"If it is about me dating Draco Malfoy, then I'm just going to tell you that I'm not dating him. We are aquentences." You told him. You knew if you told

"How did you knew?" Harry asked you.

"Hermione might have mentioned. She also mentioned that you were sounded annoyed by it." You told him.

"Well, I'm glad you weren't." Harry said to you. Before you could ask the reason why, he kissed you. You eyes widen in surprised. You did not hesitate to kiss back. When he pulled away, he had a small blush on his cheeks, jut like you had. "What are you doing this Saturday? Do you want to go to the Three Broomsticks with me?" Harry quickly asked. You were out of words. Nonetheless, you nodded back at him. That Saturday was one of the many dates that you went with the boy who lived.

. . . .

As sixth year rolled around, you sat by yourself in compartment. Your heart race at the fact that you will be returning to Hogwarts. You knew that Dumbledore had trusted you with the mission to infiltrate the opposite side of the battle. You wanted to help the Order in any possible way, even if it meant putting your life at risk. At the end of the day, you were helping to protect the wizard world and the muggle word, including your friends.

A small tap was heard from the corpatament door next to you. You turned to look at the sight of Harry. He opened the corpatament door, taking a seat next to you. "Hi...You didn't send me any letters during the summer."

"I thought you might have wanted space to...get better." You told him, playing with the pages of your Spell book. "You always want space when you are mad or sad at something. I know from experience." You told him.

"I thought you had forgiven me." Harry mentioned. He noticed the circles under your eyes. "Are you okay?" He asked you, pointing at the area under your eyes.

You gave him a weak smile. "I have not been sleeping well this past couple of days. Nerves, I presume." You told him.

"For going back? I'm more excited than nervous." Harry told you. You nodded at him. "Is everything okay? Did something happened during summer?" Harry asked her.

You shook your head. "Nothing." You lied. He could not know the task that Professor Dumbledore had sent you. Harry knew you were lying, but he decided to let it go. Instead, he put an arm around you, and pulled you into a hug. You smiled, hugging him back. He kissed the top of your head, and you couldn't hold the tears anymore. You cried. You were afraid, and nervous. You knew that if Harry found at what your task was, he will never forgive you. "I love you. I love you so much, Harry." You whispered, fearing you will never tell him those words again.

. . . .

Just as you feared, things went south at the end of the sixth year. Dumbledore died, which meant that you must carry out your quest that only some of the members of the Order knew. This meant that you  had to cut your connection with the Golden Trio. Draco learned about your secret when he had caught you sending a letter to one of the member of the Order. You kept quiet, waiting for a response from him. Telling you that he was going to hand you to Voldermort himself, but he never did. Instead he promised he will keep your secret, and keep you out of arms way. He knew you had a family, friends, and that it was never fully your decision to do it. You were just trying to protect your family, just like he was.

It went well for the first year, but just like everything; it took a turn. Voldermort figured that there was a mole between them. When he asked Malfoy to tell him, you stepped in and told him it was you. You did not want Malfoy to get punished after something he didn't had anything to do with. On that moment, Malfoy knew that you lived up to your house name; and would have confused you with a Gryffindor.

That was the reason why you now sat in a cold wet floor in a cell. Whilst Luna trying to help you with your wounds. Voldemort had the brilliant idea of making you a chew toy for his serpent. You took deep breath, trying to keep your eyes opened.

"It will be okay, y/n. Somebody will come to help us." Luna told you, as she pushed the sweaty hair off your face.

A loud bang started the two of you. You could not move from your position on the floor, but you could recognize the new voices of the cell.

"They got Hermione up there. We got to do something, Harry." Ron told Harry.

"Harry Potter?" Luna asked, standing up from her place on the floor. You smiled lightly, hearing the name.

Harry turned to Luna, frowning at her. "Luna, what are you doing here?" He asked her. Luna shrugged at him. His eyes landed on Ollivander, and the body that was laying on the floor.

Ron got closer to the body, gasping at the battled side of you. "Bloody hell, y/n" He almost yelled kneeling down.

You glared at him. "Will you please stop yelling." You whispered. Harry slowly approached to them. "It's good to see you." You told Ron. Ron looked down at you and then at Harry. The fury he had inside amplified.

Harry just looked at you without any emotions, and this hurt. "You were working with them." Harry said, frowning at you. You were about to speak, but screamed as the burning sensation of your wounds. Ron put an arm around you, trying to help you sit up. You turned around, vomiting the contents of some of your breakfast. You leant on Ron for support.

Harry clenched his fist. "I saw you on the news." Harry continued. He had questions, and he felt portrayed. "How much have you told him? For how long?" He asked. He was about to continue, but Ron cut him off.

"Harry!" Ron yelled at him. "She is hurt, don't you see. She is weak and tired. Give her a break." Ron told Harry.

You shook your head. "It was all part of the plan. I never said anything about you three, just lies to that noseless wizard." You told them. You voice barely above a whisper. Your body shivered from the weak state. "Dumbledore told me I had to. How do you think the Order was able to save all those Muggles in that island, or find the wizards trapped by Voldemort to get his information." You explained.

Harry glared at you, not believing a single word.  "She is burning up Harry." Ron whispered to Harry.

Harry looked at you in the eye seeing the pain that they held. Your eyes were filled with tears, that hurt when they came in contact with your wounds.

Harry sighed, looking at you. "You could have gotten yourself killed. That is stupid." Harry told you. He hated the sight of you in that moment. Your hair grew darker by the lack of wash, and your skin was tainted by your own blood.

Your looked at Harry, flinching slightly at the movement. "Dumbledore sent you on a quest, he send me on a mine too." You whispered, closing your eyes briefly. "You do whatever you need to save the ones you love." You stated. Harry sighed, kneeling down next to Ron. "Have you completed it though?" You asked with an urgent voice, opening your eyes back again.

"In the process of. You know how slow Harry is sometimes." Ron tried to joke, but you just groaned in pain. You slowly started to loose continuousness as your breath quicken. When you head dropped, Harry panicked.

"y/n, come on. I'm sorry." Harry whispered to her, moving the head of the girl. When he pressed his palm agaisnt his cheek he felt a liquid on it. The young adult took it away from her, looking at the sight of her own blood.

Harry looked at Ron. "We got to get her our of here. She will die here if we leave her. Look what they had done to her." Harry told Ron. Luckily, they were able to get you out, along with the rest when they escaped the Malfoy Manor.

. . . .

But like any other story of a hero, there is a tragedy to it. As F.Scott Fitzgerald once said - ask me for a hero, and I will write you a tragedy. And that is exactly what happened to our hero y/n.

The trio landed on a distant beach after they escaped with the help of Dobby, who had died protecting Harry Potter. Now, Harry stood in front of the grave he had made for Dobby. The smell of the sea helped him clear his mind, but it did not erased the guilt that was inside of him.

The boy stood up from the grave, walking back to the cottage that was a safe house for the Order of Phoenix. He ignored Hermione and Ron, who were sitting in the table eating something, and walked up to the first room.

Harry opened the door, looking at the weak sight of you. He approached the bed. The guilt intensified. He took a seat next to the woman he loved with all his heart. The one who he seemed to fail every passing minute. Nevertheless you loved him still. You will never stop loving him.

"I'm sorry." He whispered, brushing the now clean hair off her face. He sighed, trying to contain his tears. "I keep failing you. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I said those things. I'm sorry I ever doubted you." Harry whispered to her.

He let out a sob as he laid his head against her stomach. He remembered how you will brush his hair while he talked to you about something that was stressing him out. Then you will moved and kiss him on the head, then on the lips whispering 'I love you's before telling him that he will be okay.

He was hoping you will do all those things that moment.

But weren't going to.

The pain burned inside of him, just like the guilt. He kept thinking that it all would have been different if he had bought you in the search of holocruxes with him. How he could have protected you; but what hurt him the most was the fact that you had put him before yourself. That was something he did not do with you. It was in the nature of yourself. You had always put people that you loved before you. No matter the consequences.

On that day he swore to never again jump into conclusions. He swore to protect you.

He didn't know you had made that promise to yourself almost two years ago.

. . . .

The Battle of Hogwarts was approaching with each marching minute. Despite Harry's complains, Ron and Hermione convinced him to return to the search of holocruxes. They were running out of time. Ron told Harry that if he did not complete the task at hand, then your efforts for protecting the rest of the wizard world would have been in vain; which is why now they were back at Hogwarts.

After their depart, you were finally able to return to consciousness. Fleur was kind enough to aid you throughout. You were now seating in the table next to the french woman when Billy Weasley entered the apartment, alarming them about an attack on Hogwarts.

You were the first one to get your wand and stand next to Billy. You were still under recovery, but that did not matter now. Was a recovery worth for if the entire world was destroyed? No.

You took Billy's arm to apparate without realizing you were walking to your grave.

. . . .

Spells were fired across Hogwarts, as the battle began. You were running around, trying to find a place to hide against a Dearth Eater, to get a better aim at him.

"Avada Kedrava!" The man yelled.

The green light passed next to you. You turned to the corner, taking a deep breath before you aimed your wand at the man. "Stupefy!" You yelled along with somebody else. The Death Eater was thrown away.

"y/n!" Somebody yelled near you. You turned to look at Harry.

Then you saw it. A death eater aiming at Harry. "Avada Kedrava!" You yelled, hitting the man as the fury within you. Harry was about to yell at you when he heard the sound of a body dropping. You put your wand down, looking at Harry. "He was going to kill you." You told him, looking at him with hesitation. "I know you don't trust me. I know you hate me." You said, walking closer to him. "I know you don't love me, and I just hope one day you understand. Sometimes we do things to protect the ones you loved the most, not matter if it hurts you see the hate in their eyes." You told him with tears in your eyes. You let some fall.

Harry shook his head. "I don't hate you." Harry told her.

"I did it to protect you." You whispered suddenly seeing a flash of green. You did not thought about. It was almost as in a intinct. You moved.

Your voice shattered a little before the spell hit you. Harry held your body before it could fall into the floor.

Boom!

The Death Eater was thrown out of the way by a bombing spell coming from the wand of the the red haired boy. Ron Weasley glared with fury at the man, but it softened when he heard the cries coming from his best friend. He walked closer to him, stopping when he saw the unmoving body of you. His friend.

Harry whispered, looking at the tear that cascaded down your cheek. "I love you." He whispered the words he was never able to tell you. "I love you y/n." Harry said, pulling her closer to the body. The guilt he had was demolished by pain. Pure pain. Pain because the girl he loved was dead. Pain because she had stepped in front of him to protect him. Pain because he was not able to complete his promise to protect her. Pain because he knew she had died believing he didn't loved her. She died believing that he hated her.

A/N: This was some dark one-shot. It hurt writing it, but I think it came out pretty well. I'm really proud of it. I hope you enjoyed it.
