Chapter 3
Poppy's PoV
We all sat outside for breakfast, enjoying the clear sky as the sun beat down on us. The heat here was so different to what we had called a 'summer' back in England. The sun would be hot but the air would be humid and unbreathable. Here, it was pleasant. You could feel your skin warming but there was a soft breeze that just kept everything comfortable. Conversation was flowing and everyone was enjoying themselves especially the girls who had all managed to take some time off to travel through a part of Europe with us. Crystal, Sierra and Bex has joined us when we arrived in France and had then stayed with us through this stint in Spain. They were going to Italy with us too but after that, they had to get back home to work. That time was fast approaching and I knew it would be tough, especially for the guys baring in mind I was still going to be around and with Calum. I didn't want them to feel jealous or angry, especially when it had only felt right for a short amount of time.
"I don't know about you but I'm going to go in the pool while the others finish their breakfast." Bex leant over to the girls and whispered, offering a small childish grin as she instantly dropped her dress around her ankles and caught everyone off guard. The conversation halted instantly. "What?" She posed in her bikini.
"I'm in." Ashton grinned as he threw his top onto the chair, running and cannon-balling into the deep end without hesitation. Bex took the classier way into the water, by the steps that ran from the corner of the pool, and swum along happily.
"Those two are getting along well then!" Calum laughed, trying to bring everyone's attention back to the table. The others slowly looked back, offering nods in agreement.
"The same could be said for you two." Sierra said sweetly, "you two are positively radiant when you're around each other." I felt myself beginning to blush as I covered my smile with my hand shyly.
"Thank you Sierra. That's so sweet." I hugged her tightly. My phone suddenly beeped with an alarm which I quickly silenced. Calum looked down at my phone and then back up at me, an eyebrow raised as he waited for me to say what he knew I was going to say.
"Time to hit the gym." I said quickly, standing up and pulling my gym bag over my shoulder, hoping not to catch Calum's eye, knowing he was upset with me. This had been a thing I'd started since I had recovered from my surgery enough to exercise. No more did I want to be chubby or unfit, I wanted to be able to fight if I needed to without it ending how it did with Kyle, I wanted to look good for the paparazzi that were now following me every step of the way. I'd noticed a difference and I was proud but Calum had seemed to think I was overdoing it.
"You don't have to work out every day you know?" Calum said, half joking half serious. I turned and smiled, nodding my head as I walked off and towards the gym. I quickly changed into my gym shorts and crop top and walked into the main gym area where I stopped and admired myself in the mirror. There weren't any abs there yet, but I could see some definition and my bum and thighs were finally tight and not wobbly. I smiled.
"Pleased with progress?" A man's voice caught me off guard and I jumped, spinning round as I looked for the person. Near the back was a tanned man with jet black hair, lifting weights as his biceps tensed against the material of his top. I let out an awkward laugh.
"Yeah, you could say that. It's been a tough journey so any progress is good, right?" He set the weight down and walked over to me, offering his hand for me to shake.
"Lorenzo. I'm the hotel's personal trainer." I smiled as I took his hand and shook it softly.
"I'm Poppy. Hotel guest with no fancy title." He let out a chuckle. I smiled back, feeling confident as he looked me up and down, assessing me. My heart sped up excitedly.
"So, what are you working on today?" He finally said and I took that moment to break eye contact and look across the room.
"Arms and shoulders I think." My eyes fell on the weights with delight. Maybe I was a little obsessed with this... but it's a good obsession right?
"Would you like me to assist?" He asked, guiding me to the weights. "That or I could spot for you?" I nodded as we got to the bench and I picked up a small weight. I put one knee on the bench and leant forwards, lifting the weight from the ground up towards my arm and back down.
"Ah the one-arm bench dumbbell row." He smiled. "A personal favourite." He watched as I did a few more reps with his eyes focussed on my arm. "Just watch your elbow here." He moved my arm into a better position. "Like this, sí?"
"Sí señor." I smiled as my muscles began to work harder and I could feel the difference. "That feels amazing."
"You look amazing!" He smiled, stepping back to admire his work and my new and improved posture.
"Poppy?" Calum's voice shouted from the gym entrance, anger laced in his tone. He looked between me and Lorenzo a few times, waiting for one of us to explain. I quickly dropped the weight and jumped up, turning to Calum as I spoke.
"Calum, this is Lorenzo, the hotel's personal trainer." I introduced them. Calum seemed to relax slightly as he walked towards him and held out his hand. Lorenzo shook it confidently, not fazed but Calum's demeanour.
"Thank you for helping my fiancée." He said, making sure the last word was emphasised. He quickly turned to me. "Everyone's going to town, Bex and Ashton have just gone to get ready."
"Sure. Let me finish up here and I'll meet you guys in the reception. Fifteen minutes?" I asked and Calum nodded, slowly backing out of the gym with a glum look on his face. I watched him go and for a second, contemplated whether I should run after him or carry on working out. I grabbed my bag and thanked Lorenzo as I jogged back to our room, quickly unlocking it and getting inside.
The room was silent, but the bathroom door was slightly ajar and I could hear the shower running. I dropped my bag down carefully and took off my gym clothes, walking into the bathroom and into the shower to surprise Calum.
