Chapter 47

Triple update because somehow I've got 3k reads since like yesterday?? Love you all!!

Poppy's PoV

Calum was furious with me but I'd made my decision. I'd gone with Naomi in the ambulance and I was waiting with her whilst they did the tests. She lay in the hospital bed with a blood pressure cuff, baby monitor and heart monitor all going at the same time. The wires were everywhere, covering half the floor around her bedside. Despite her evil vindictive side, she was still a pregnant woman who was alone out here and there was no way I was leaving her to suffer alone even though she was a bitch. The doctors had been running in and out for a while taking different tests and ruling out different issues.

"Are you her next of kin?" One doctor asked me as he jotted down some notes from the machines. I shook my head.

"Oh no. I'm a friend and a nurse." I added just to make sure they knew I knew what they were doing. I'd kept an eye on every test they'd done to make sure they didn't miss anything and so far it was okay. The doctor wasted no time rushing back out with his notepad as the room fell back into silence once again. I began to scroll through my phone, checking my social media accounts whilst I waited for Naomi to come around. It looked like the news of her collapse had already made the news, many people posting about it and how shocked they were that I actually bothered to help her. I wasn't an animal, I'd help anyone who needed it as long as they got their comeuppance when they'd recovered.

"Urgh." Naomi mumbled as she stirred, waking up groggily. Instantly her hands when to her stomach as she opened her eyes and realised she was laying in a hospital bed. She looked around, her eyes finally falling on me as she let out a grunt of annoyance. "Come to rub it in my face?" She snapped, trying to sit up until she realised she was connected to loads of machines. "What the hell happened?" Her face was contorting into worry as her mind raced. I placed my hand on her arm for a second to calm her down before removing it.

"You passed out in the restaurant. I came with you in the ambulance. I just wanted to check you were okay." I shrugged like it was no big deal - To me it wasn't. I'd just helped another person. She didn't seem to believe me as she shook her head, letting out an emotionless laugh.

"Yeah right. You... wanting to help me?" She looked away from me for a moment, sorting out her thoughts.

"Believe it or not, Naomi, but I'm not a monster. I know that we don't see eye to eye and really I should hate you for what you've done to me but i can't and won't just leave you there, no matter what had happened between us." I said honestly. I looked down at the floor and let out a shaky breath, trying to compose myself whilst being faced with the woman who was pretty much ruining my life through no fault of my own. Yes, I was in a relationship with Calum but I didn't do it to spite her. I didn't even know her.

"So what do you want? A thank you? For us to hug it out and become besties?" Naomi was still bitter as she sat up, keeping her eye on the baby monitor as the heart rate number increased and decreased as normal.

"No." I said shortly. "I'm not asking you for anything. If anything it'd just be to leave us alone. But right now, all I'm here to do is to check you and your baby are okay." One of the doctors ran back in and stood at the foot of the bed, assessing her chart as they made a decision. After a moment, he put it down and walked over to Naomi, putting his best smile on.

"Hi there Naomi. I'm Dr Park, it's nice to meet you." Naomi merely nodded in response. "If it's okay, I'd like to discuss your test results with you. Would you like your friend to be here or would you like her to leave?" Both the doctor and Naomi looked over at me and I began to stand, grabbing my stuff as I got ready to head out.

"It's fine." Naomi muttered, surprising everyone in the room. I froze, looking at her confusedly as I slowly lowered myself back into the chair. "So what's wrong?"

"Well, we believe it's a couple of things. Unfortunately you've got a high blood pressure, which is relatively common in pregnancy and will need fixing with medication but you've also got severely low iron levels. Have you been eating well?" Naomi shifted awkwardly in the bed as she shook her head, feeling embarrassed.

"I've had bad morning sickness and with the travelling, I just haven't really eaten how I would normally ." I felt bad for her. As if it wasn't scary enough being pregnant, Naomi was also jetting around the world trying to win Calum back which was probably very stressful on her.

"Okay, well unfortunately I think we're going to have to keep you in overnight at least. You'll need to start your medication to bump up your iron and to drop your blood pressure to a normal level before we can discharge you." The doctor said and I watched as Naomi sank down sadly, tears brimming as the reality set in.

"Is there anyone you want us to call?" I asked carefully but she sombrely shook her head.

"No. I'll be fine. Thank you." She said sadly, laying herself back down on the bed. "I'm going to sleep now." That was my cue to leave and as I grabbed my stuff, I placed a hand on her arm carefully.

"You'll be okay. Just look after yourself." I said softly.

"Why are you being so nice to me? To prove a point? To say you're better than me?" She was quick to snap, her eyes narrowing even though she wasn't looking at me. I moved my hand away from her and began to walk towards the door.

"No. I'm just nice." I responded, looking back at her with a sympathetic look. "Have a good rest." I grabbed the door handle and turned it, Naomi shouting at me to wait.

"Wait. Please can I ask one favour?" I let go of the handle and turned around, looking dead into her eyes. "Please don't speak to the press. I don't want them to know about our chat or what happened. I know it doesn't seem fair to ask but please?" Without an answer, I turned back to the door, opening it and taking a step out.

"We'll see." I said confidently as I shut the door behind me, ready to go home.
