Chapter 64
Poppy's PoV
"Crystal!" Michael called out as he caught her, lowering her slowly to the floor and instantly looking over to me with wide eyes. I didn't waste a second. I skidded beside her, pulling out my phone and putting it on a timer as I counted her pulse rate and her breathing. It seemed to be okay, slightly slower than normal but sometimes that happens with pregnancy. "What's wrong with her?" Michael quizzed me and suddenly I was acutely aware of everything. It was just like Calum when he had his collapsed lung. Everyone was depending on me, watching me, assessing me. Dread filled my body. There was no way I could get this wrong.
"I think she's okay." I said, hoping to calm everyone down but Michael seemed to disagree with me.
"Okay? She just collapsed, tell me how that's okay?!" Calum yanked Michael away from me and further back in the cafe, I could hear him scolding how he spoke to me, saying that I was doing the best I could.
"Can anyone get me a blood pressure cuff?" I called our, hoping someone somewhere had a nicely stocked medical kit. "And some cold wet towels?" Sierra and Bex ran off to grab some hand towels and went into the back kitchen without a second thought. I could hear a disagreement there too but it was quickly resolved as they ran back with cold drenched hand towels. "Thank you." I said as I placed a couple on her forehead and then folded two up to place on her wrists. One of the waiters finally came with a cuff and I did her blood pressure, noting just how low it was. This was why she passed out. A small, weak groan came from her as she stirred, her head twisting to the side as she took in where she was and what was happening.
"Poppy?" She croaked and I gave her a smile. Michael rushed back over to us and kissed her over and over.
"You've gotta stop scaring us like that, Crystal." I breathed out a sigh of relief, looking back at the others who were all grinning.
"What happened to her?" Michael's voice was a lot calmer and softer now, he offered me an apologetic look.
"Her blood pressure is quite low, it happens during pregnancy a lot. I don't think we need to go to the hospital or anything but just keep your food and drink intake up and maybe we can get you some support stockings to help your blood flow." Crystal nodded weakly and we slowly helped her to her feet. "The shock of that noise probably didn't help." I added, the fear in everyone's faces etched into my mind. Everyone let out an awkward response, knowing that we all still had some time to go before that didn't affect us anymore. Michael took crystal outside for some fresh air whilst Sierra pulled me in for a hug.
"I'll never get tired of seeing you in action." She laughed heartily. "Every day I'm grateful for you being here. You've helped us all in different ways." Bex sidled you beside us nodding her head in agreement.
"Literally, you've helped pretty much all of us with some issue or another - medical or not." She rubbed my back with her hand. "I really appreciate it."
"I love you guys." I responded, giving them both a hug.
"You know, for someone who has a secret surprise coming his way, and has a fantastic wife to be, Calum looks like he's in a pretty shitty mood." Bex spoke her mind and once again Sierra slapped her arm. We all looked over to him though, his brows furrowed as he spoke quietly to Dave away from the group so no one could hear him.
"Yeah, what's up with that?" Sierra added, gesturing for Luke to come over. Both he and Ashton came over to us in an instant, lacing their hands around their significant other.
"What's up babe?" Luke whispered into Sierra's ear before giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"What's wrong with Calum? Why's he being all secretive over there with Dave?" Sierra asked and again, all of us looked over to him. Luckily, he seemed none the wiser as he spoke to Dave with worry on his face. Was it about Crystal ? Or me?
"No idea." Luke shrugged.
"He's been in a funny mood since you steered the paps away." Ashton added, making me feel guilty. "I mean I don't think that's why but he was definitely off the whole time we were here." The girls nodded which I knew to be true because they'd messaged me about it on the group chat. I smiled as much as I could in response.
"Got it. Thanks."
Dave suddenly called us all over and suggested we all headed back closer to the hotel because Crystal was still feeling unsteady. We all agreed as we headed back to the van, a nervous feeling filling my guts as I thought about the room and my decoration. Was it okay? Was he going to hate it? Noticing my stoic expression despite everything that was going on around me in the van, Calum grabbed my attention.
"Hmm?" I blinked up and towards him, his face slightly irritated by my lack of attention to the group.
"We all decided that we were going to a bar down the road from the hotel. Are you coming?" I looked round at the girls who were all looking back at me apologetically, clearly unable to steer the men away from the bar without it looking too obvious. I shook my head.
"To be honest I'm feeling pretty tired." I said, looking into Calum's eyes. Every cell in my body was screaming at him to come with me but he just seemed to shrug.
"Okay, no problem." He said flatly. The girls and I exchanged glances one more time.
"I don't want to go alone though..." I added, hoping to convince him to come back with me. Once he did that, we'd have the beautifully decorated room and the treats to ourselves.
"It's okay, Crystal can stay with you." He responded again without emotion. What was wrong with him?
