Chapter 75

Poppy's PoV

I still couldn't believe it. I was in a car on my way to somewhere I had no idea about dressed in a wedding dress and ready to marry Calum. My small baby bump protruded from the skintight dress which made me feel happy and proud. I'd been so focussed on weight watching when the paps first started to bother me but now, knowing this is all for the beautiful baby we are going to have, I couldn't be happier. The car pulled up to what looked like a barn conversion and the driver helped me out of the car, walking me into the barn ahead of Calum's arrival. He still hadn't seen me in my dress as he wanted to be traditional, but ahead of me already waiting at the top of the aisle we're Bex, Sierra and Crystal in beautiful light blue-grey floaty bridesmaids dresses.

"You look beautiful!" I gushed as I rushed over to them, enveloping them all in one huge hug. They all squealed in excitement as the took in my dress too.

"You look perfect." "So beautiful." "Calum's not going to know what hit him." They all spoke at the same time. For a moment we just looked around in awe and excitement. Calum had done all this without me knowing? The light colour scheme was complimented with the chandeliers hanging from the ceilings, plants cascading down from them. Light wooden chairs surrounded the aisles and then some tables at the end of the room, though there weren't many, I knew it was going to be enough to house everyone we cared about. A pang of sadness hit me as I realised my family wouldn't be here. Despite us never getting on, it was always in my mind that my family would have made it to my wedding day, to tell me that we could forget everything in the past and move on. We were all adults now. But that would never happen. I knew it.

"Everything okay?" Sierra's atm was around my shoulders in an instant. I put a smile back on my face and turned to them.

"I'm just overwhelmed. In a good way. I can't believe Cal did all of this without me realising and it's perfect. He remembered exactly what I wanted." A single tear slid down my cheek but was mopped up by Bex before it ruined my makeup.

"And the hormones too." Crystal added, cradling her huge beach ball sized bump. She was due pretty much any day now and I could tell that she was looking forward to it. She'd told me just how tiring pregnancy had gotten and the final stages just feel like they go on forever.

The doors swung open dramatically and Ashton ran in, up to the four of us where he skidded to a halt. His eyes drunk us all in, from head to toe, before he visibly gulped.

"Wow." He managed. It was as if he was speechless. It took a moment for him to snap out of his trance and his usual smile was back on his face. "You all look amazing. Especially you, Poppy." I pulled him in for a hug.

"Thank you! You look great too." I replied.

"He'll be here in a minute, I'm just going to get everyone seated." Ashton quickly rushed off again, leaving us all feeling nervous as the time was officially here. Suddenly, people began to trickle into seats - Dave, Piotr and Jack, the management team, tour staff and finally an older couple and a younger lady who was probably the same age as me. They greeted the band in such a friendly way before making their way over to me, ignoring the seating.

"Can you believe someone managed to sweep my son off his feet?" The older lady grinned as she grabbed my hand and shook it. "I'm Joy, it's nice to finally properly meet you!" She laughed, her personality already infectious and happy. I stopped shaking her hand and pulled her into a hug.

"Joy, it's so lovely to finally see you in person." I beamed, "David, Mali-Koa, it's so nice to have you here. Thank you so much for coming." I hugged the other two quickly.

"I still can't believe someone got Calum to settle down!" Mali laughed as she ushered her parents into their seats whilst Ashton made sure everyone was ready. He was quick to shoo me and the bridesmaids out of a side door as Calum came in with the guys as his best men, all moving up and waiting at the top of the aisle. Music began to play and Ashton took my arm in his, as if he was my dad, and proceeded to walk me down the aisle towards Cal. Everyone gasped in awe at how we all looked and as my eyes met Calum's, his jaw dropped open and he let out a surprised laugh, shaking his head in disbelief. The bridesmaids, best men and Ashton parted and took their seats, leaving myself and Calum alone with the officiant.

"There are no words to describe just how good you look." Calum purred, stroking my face with the back of his finger. "You are beautiful."

"I can't believe you did all this Cal. And you remembered everything we'd mentioned before. This dress is perfect. Everything is perfect." We both grinned childishly at each other, barely able to compute that we were literally going to be husband and wife in a matter of moments. With the vows spoken, the officiant finally asked the question.

"Do you, Calum Hood, take Poppy Knight to be your lawfully wedded wife?" She asked, Calum nodded happily.

"I do." I could have squealed with excitement but I tried desperately to contain it.

"And do you, Poppy Knight, take Calum Hood to be your lawfully wedded husband?" My eyes welled as I looked at Calum once again, memories flooding my mind of everything we had been through and come out of stronger than before. The broke ankle, the people from my past, the injuries, people from his past, issues within the band and their girlfriends, it was all difficult but we managed every single time. And the last thing, that car crash, seeing him there lifeless - that moment would never leave me. Every time I looked at him I saw what he was like then. It haunted me. But then that made me realise, clearly I loved him and it hurt so much to see him injured. I had to enjoy every moment I did have with him and make it worth it.

"I do." Calum breathed out a sigh of relief.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride." I practically leapt at him, wrapping my arms tightly around him as we kissed, trying to keep it light but wanting so much more. As Calum lifted me and spun me round, the barn door opened and none other than Naomi walked in. Everyone sucked in a sharp breath as she, followed by an officer, walked towards the two of us holding a piece of paper. We were frozen in shock, unable to compute anything as we stood side by side and watched her get closer, finally handing us a piece of paper in an envelope.

"Congratulations to you both. I know when I've lost." She said quietly to the both of us. "Don't worry, you won't be hearing from me again." The officer swiftly led her away as Calum ripped the envelope open and saw a hand written letter inside. It said that she was sorry, she'd been the one to cause the car accident and seeing just how hurt cal had got had altered her mindset, although she was going to prison she was going to a mother and baby area and she was going to take care of her baby and focus on that. She wrote that she would no longer be bothering us and that she wished us every happiness as a couple and with our baby.

Suddenly the room was weirdly silent. It was like everything we'd been dealing with had suddenly stopped. The cancer, gone, the injuries, gone, Naomi, gone. For once everything was normal. I was now Mrs Hood and we knew that soon we had baby Hood coming along. Our friends were all happy and healthy, we were too. I was overcome with ecstasy and elation. Finally everything was over. We could focus on ourselves. We grabbed each other and hugged tightly, the rest of the room applauding as they realised it must have been good news. The air was filled with cheers and applause. I looked around at all our friends, big smiles on their faces, some with tears falling proudly. This was it. The beginning of a new stage in our lives. A better one.

The end.

Authors note: for now!! Night shift 3 is being worked on as we speak 😁🤓
