Chapter 4
Uni, Dawn, and Ashlie stopped where they were behind the ring of cacti surrounding Dashlie.
"Oh..." Uni mumbled and drawled off. He wasn't really sure what else to say. Dawn was silent, having no comment. Ashlie rubbed her eyes with her sleeve to clear up her vision. She then stared at her counterpart with a look of disbelief as if just realizing she was there.
Dashlie's red gaze narrowed as she observed the red-hair lady more closely. She gave a sickly smile. "Aw, what's wrong sweetheart? Are all your friends dead?" The albino woman cooed.
"Yes!" Ashlie snapped harshly. Her unusually sharp tone caught Uni and Dawn by surprise. Even Dashlie seemed taken aback. "Your sick cronies killed two of my closest friends!" Tears threatened to come again, but Ashlie managed to contain herself.
"Well, that's not my problem." Dashlie said shrugging, not seeming to care all that much. Ashlie's turquoise eyes glinted in fury as she all of a sudden rushed up to Dashlie and punched her square in the face.
"Ashlie!" Uni exclaimed in surprise. He made a step forward but he was held back by Dawn as the robot placed a hand on his shoulder. Uni turned his head and saw the look of worry on his friend's face. The pug bit his lip in worry and retreated back to Dawn's side. He started helplessly between the two women.
Dashlie stumbled back from the sudden blow. She held a hand to her face and felt blood dripping from her nose. The wiped the blood off of her face with her sleeve and gave a sneer. "Oh, you wanna go sister?" The albino woman charged forward and swung a punch at her doppelganger. Ashlie easily side-stepped to avoid the attack, then aimed another punch at the side of Dashlie's head. And so the fist-fight between the two counterparts began. Almost as soon as it started it was clear Dashlie was not a fighter at all. She only managed a hit or two on Ashlie; however, despite the odds she was able to dodge most of the attacks. In fact, it appeared that was the only thing she was doing at the moment to avoid any critical hits from her doppelganger.
"Alright, I'm tired of this." Dashlie snapped. As Ashlie made her way forward for another attack, the white-haired woman stuck her leg out and tripped the other woman causing her to stumble. In one swift motion Dashlie grabbed Ashlie's shoulder, turning the red-haired woman to face her, and pushed her straight into a cactus. Ashlie made a choking sound as the spikes on the cactus pierced through her body.
"Ashlie, no!" Uni cried out as he once more tried to reach for his friend, but once more he was held back by Dawn. The pug shoved his friend away and looked at him in confusion and anger. "Why aren't you letting me do anything about this?" He demanded, trying his best to hold back tears. Dawn only shook his head slowly, then cast a worried glance at the unpredictable albino woman. Uni stood there in utter defeat as he looked between Dawn, Ashlie and Dashlie. He then buried his face into his paws and sobbed quietly. Dawn stood beside the pug and hugged his arm around him for comfort. He sadly watched the rather horrifying scene ahead of him.
"I... I am not going to die..." Ashlie hissed in frustration as she struggled to escape from Dashlie's firm grip.
"I don't think so." Dashlie replied. A mad glint sparked in her red eyes as she shoved Ashlie deeper into the spikes. Ashlie gave another cough, they light dimming from her eyes. Her hands went limp and she gave one last deep breath, accepting defeat as she began to fade. Her body vanished in a puff of dust and light, leaving only a few of her items on the ground. Dashlie stepped back and seemed to snap back to reality noticing her doppelganger was no longer there. A hint of panic crossed her face as she realized what she had done.
The albino woman put a hand to her head, looking exhausted. "Well then..." She muttered. Without even acknowledging the other two in the room, Dashlie left. Her movement was a bit sluggish as if she was in a daze. Dawn watched her exit the room, then looked down at his friend. The pug looked at the robot with a miserable look on his face. He was no longer crying, but his eyes were a bit red and cloudy from doing so.
"Is this the end for us?" Uni's voice was barely a whisper, sounding hopeless. His eyes however searched for an answer, a sign of hope. Dawn was silent, and that gave enough of an answer. Uni gave a grimace, visibly shaken. He then stood himself up a bit straighter and gave a sniff.
"Well... let's get going then." He said, staring ahead. Dawn nodded his head, and together the two walked out of the arena of sand and cacti. Around the corner was a door. They stopped in front of it and looked up at a sign above the door that read:
DUNi
Room
Disregarding the obvious grammatical error, the two friends looked at each other.
"Here we go then, friend?" Uni asked, half-jokingly. The robot nodded his head.
"Here we go." Dawn replied.
Uni opened the door and the two stepped inside. Ahead of them was a vast hallway. The smell of old books drifted through the air. Uni and Dawn took a moment to inspect their surroundings, then walked down the hallway, side-by-side.
