First Day Back
---Ink's POV----
*beep* *beep* *beep*
Ughhhhh....
Five more minutes....
*beep* *beep* *beep*
"Alright, alright, I'm up." I muttered to myself, sleepily stretching my arm out to turn off the annoying beeping of my alarm clock.
The silence that followed was relaxing. I wanted nothing more than to curl up under the covers of my blanket and sleep for the rest of the day.
But that's not an option today.
A sudden ringing caused me to glance over to my windowsill where I'd left my phone last night.
I stood up, stumbling over to it, my eyes only seeing blurry shapes of the objects around me, I was still half asleep.
I picked it up and answered the phone, lifting it up to my 'ear'.
I immediately regretted doing so as I was blasted by the high pitched squeal of my best friend Dream.
"IIINNNNNKKKKKKKKK WAKE UP ITS OUR FIRST DAY BACK AT SCHOOL!!!"
I winced at how loud he was and held the phone away from my 'ear' shaking my head to clear the shock.
On the other side of the line I could hear Dreams brother Nightmare yelling at him to shut up.
Dream giggled and then spoke again.
"Ink? Are you there?"
I put the phone back up to my ear and answered quickly. "Yeah, I'm here."
Dream giggled and seemed to call something to his brother on the other end of the line before speaking to me again.
"Are you excited?" He squealed, casing me to have to angle the phone away again.
I laughed, his enthusiasm for everything was always so amusing.
"Yeah, I'm ready." I yawned. "Got up ages ago." I lied, glancing at my bedside clock.
Eight o'clock. I have an hour before I need to be at school.
"I'll see you at school!" Dream called. "Byeeeee!"
"B-"
He had already hung up.
I smiled and shook my head, I don't think I'll ever fully understand that kid.
I quickly stripped out of my pyjamas and got into my usual clothing, wrapping my long brown scarf around my neck and flipping the end over my shoulder. It was so long that it nearly dragged along the floor as I walked.
I skipped downstairs and plugged my phone into charge before walking into the kitchen and pouring myself a bowl of cereal.
My favourite cereal has to be cornflakes. Original, I know. But I just really enjoy eating them.
I turned on the TV and flicked through the channels. Nothing seemed to interest me. It was all boring news reports.
Nothing interesting had been happening on the news lately anyway. Well there was one thing that sounded semi-cool. Last week our towns prison had a bunch of criminals escape (XD).
They haven't caught a small group of them which concerns me a little. But they should be long gone by now so it's probably fine.
I sat there unmoving for about ten minutes. The TV was still on but I didn't pay any attention to it. I had finished my cereal a while ago too.
I was eventually broke out of my zombie state by the chime of a text from Blue, my other best friend.
I glanced down at my phone. It was a text informing me that he was on his way to school. We lived quite close and we normally met at our local park.
I texted a quick reply and sat up, chucking my bowl in the sink. I'll wash it when I get back.
I grabbed my bag from the banister, checking that I had all my books and necessary school equipment.
Great. Everything seemed to be there.
I walked to the door, opening and shutting it as I walked out, making sure to deadlock it behind me.
Then I started my glorious adventure of walking to school.
It was a sunny day, not a cloud in sight.
I recognised a few people as I walked, they either looked really happy to be going back to school, or looked like literal zombies.
Most of them were option two.
As I rounded the corner of my road the park came into sight.
Blue wasn't there yet.
I walked over to the wooden bench where we wait for each other if we're early or one of us is late.
I was sat for about three minutes when the figure of Blue became apparent in the distance.
He ran over to me, panting.
I patted his back as he tried to catch his breath.
"You good?" I joked.
"Give....me a.....second." Blue panted, stretching backwards and taking in big gulps of air.
"You look like you just ran a marathon." I joked.
Blue tried miserably to glare threateningly at me. It ended up just looking cute.
Blue is in the year below Dream and I.
He looks incredibly young and is older than you'd expect. It didn't help that he had the mental capacity of an eight year old.
I laughed as he took in one final gulp of air before bending over, panting quietly.
"C'mon!" I groaned, grabbing his hand and pulling him along. "We're gonna be late if we wait any longer!"
"Please! Ink! No more running!" Blue gasped.
I only laughed and pulled him along with me.
We got to school just as the bell rang.
The courtyard was full of noise and movement. Blue and I had to weave in and out between bodies muttering "excuse me's" and "sorry's" as we accidentally elbowed people or something.
We eventually broke free of the mass crowd and ended up in a less crowded area.
I scanned the area for Dream but had to stand on my tip toes to see over peoples heads.
I'm constantly being teased about my height. I mainly ignore it, but there are often times like this where I wish I was just that little bit taller.
I spun on my heels, searching for any sign of my energetic friend.
There!
By the blossom tree!
"Found him." I told Blue, gripping his wrist and pulling him with me through the crowd once more.
Dream instantly recognized us and a giant smile broke out on his face.
"I was beginning to worry you suddenly weren't coming or something." Dream laughed as we all embraced in a group hug.
"We'd never leave you to face the first day back at school alone." I reassured, hugging them tighter.
"GAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!"
We broke away from each other and turned to see them.
The schools bullies.
The one who yelled that was probably Fell. He had this smug look on his face.
The others were all staring at us with shark grins, waiting to see if we'd do anything.
"Ignore them Ink." Dream mumbled. I looked over at him. He was glaring at his brother. The main bully of the school, leader of the gang.
The two brothers couldn't be more different. One being the most positive thing you've ever met, the other being a cocky bully that enjoys others pain.
Nightmare smirked at Dream, a dangerous glint in his eye.
"But then you don't have any problem with being called gay. Do you Dreamy?"
"SH-SHUT IT!" Dream yelled, a yellow tinting his face.
Nightmare laughed, flipping us off before turning back to his group.
He whispered something to them and they all burst out laughing.
I growled and grabbed Dream and Blue by the arms.
"Lets go." I growled. "Just ignore them."
They hurried after me as I dragged them to the open double doors and into the corridors.
"We should probably get going to class before the corridors get too busy." I said.
Dream and Blue both nodded and Dream and I went one way while Blue went the other, seeing as he was in a different year.
Dream and I ran into our first lesson. English.
There were a few people already there but we were pretty early.
I sat down in my seat. It was right next to the window which I liked, its perfect for daydreaming.
I tilted my head back and stared at the ceiling as the final bell rang and students started pouring into class.
Time for another term of boring school.
