❦Chapter 19: Sad Story❦

You all snapped awake at the same time, relief washing over Ellie's face as she watched you guys come to. She'd managed to bandage her bloody neck but her face was even more pale than usual; her eyes full of exhaustion.

"We...escaped...?" Elliot said in surprise, confused by the sudden turn of events.

"No. He let us go. I don't know why." Ari shook her head - also bemused by Freddy's strange decision. It was unlike the sadistic slasher to just let his victims go. He must've had a reason. But what was it?

"Lucas! Oh baby, what did Freddy do to you?" Ellie panicked and hugged him, tears slipping down her cheeks as she checked for any major wounds.

"He slashed my chest and twisted my arm. Fucking psycho." Lucas answered huffily, annoyed at how easily Freddy had beaten him.

"Fix your wounded ego, Lulu. We don't have time for-"

"For what? To recover from our injuries? To find a way to fucking get rid of this creep? Freddy was right, you're a terrible leader!" Lucas lost his temper and lashed out at her, startling the group.

"Hey man, that's not fair. Shut the fuck up." Elliot snapped defensively.

"Terrible leader or not, we can't sit around and freak out. We need to fix everyone's injuries and figure out why Freddy let us go." Ari kept her voice level but you sensed her hurt.

"She saved me, so I think Ariana's a great leader. And she's right, feeling sorry for ourselves isn't going to fix the problem." You threw a cold glance towards Lucas, wanting to defend your saviour. She was the one who saved you guys from Jason. She was the one who told you to get out of the glass. And she was the one trying to stop the two killers. Ari must be under a whole lot of pressure and Lucas was definitely not helping.

"That's easy for you to say (Y/n)! Freddy didn't even hurt you! Why are you so damn special, huh?!" He took it out on you next, his cheeks flushed red.

"I...I don't know." You hesitantly confessed, playing with the hem of your dress. Wait dress!? You woke up in the same girly outfit Freddy had given you, the bows ruffling as your head moved slightly.

"Lu, come on, drop it. We're all stressed out. Let's take a breather." Ellie gave him a hug, calming the teenage boy down.

"Hey Ari, I don't mean to bother you, but..." You gestured to your outfit awkwardly, blushing with embarrassment.

"Oh right. You can borrow some of my clothes. Elliot and Ellie, can you help emo-...Lucas please?" She stood up and tried not to use her sharp-tongue, instead acting relatively civil.

"Yeah." Elliot dipped his head - but he was still cold towards the sullen boy, sending you a sympathetic smile whilst he stifled a sigh.

"Come on, (Y/n)." Ari took your hand and guided you out of the living room, going upstairs instead.

"So your mind reading...how long has that been a thing?" You casually asked, startling her a little.

"Oh uh...I'm not sure. My whole life, I think. My sister had powers too. Too bad I never met her." Ari answered quietly.

"You never met her? Why? What happened?" Your curiosity rose again, wanting to know more about Ariana.

"She was with you. In the asylum. My sister was Ashley." Ariana bit her lip; pushing open her bedroom door as she watched your surprised expression.

"You mean...you're Ashley's sister? But she never told me she had one!" You exclaimed in shock, sitting on Ari's bed and trying to understand.

"I don't think she knew me very well - we were mostly kept separate. My mind reading benefitted the family - her location sensing did not. So they sent her away...and kept me." Ari explained, a sad smile lingering on her lips.

"That's so sad. I'm sorry." You didn't know what to say, so you just gave your condolences.

"My whole life I've been used for monetary gain; like a monkey in a damn circus. Eventually I ran away and decided to find Ashley, but when I finally found out that she was in Springwood it was too late." She gravely continued.

"The few times we did interact, I remember telling Ashley I wanted to dip-dye my hair pink. But as I grew up, I never went through with it. Maybe I should've - as a memento to her." Ari wistfully finished, making your eyes widen.

"She must've remembered that, because Ashley's hair was dyed pink at the tips when I met her!" You excitedly exclaimed; wanting to cheer the other girl up.

"For real?" Ari's face grew brighter and you nodded, eager to reassure her.

"Well I'll be damned. Atta girl. Did it look nice?" She chuckled.

"It looked amazing." You smiled and took the clothes Ariana had given you. She'd picked out a one-shoulder black top, a pair of black ripped jeans and black lace-up boots; making you look less like a little girl and more like a bad ass.

"Fucking A." You both spoke playfully, the two of you bursting into laughter as you realised you'd said it simultaneously.

"How did you-"

"Mind reading." Ari stuck her tongue out and then took the bows out of your hair, straightening it back out.

"Thanks, I looked like a little kid. Ew." You shuddered, throwing the white dress to the ground in disgust.

"Hey, you looked super duper cute! Like a little angel~" She teased affectionately.

"Buzz off." You rolled your eyes and kicked the white shoes towards her trash can - hating your previous outfit.

"So why'd you think he let us go?" You said after a few minutes of silence, hoping she had some sort of answer to the mysterious question.

"I don't know...Maybe he grew frustrated. He can't keep you in there and fight the group at the same time. I don't think he's that good at multitasking, do you?" Ari mulled over it lightly.

"Probably not." You amusedly agreed, thinking back to the glass case and inwardly shivering.

"I just wish I knew what his plan was. I can't keep you guys safe if you fall asleep, but you're not safe awake either." She sighed irritably.

"Because of Jason." You concluded and she nodded, sitting up straighter.

"Yeah." Ari muttered.

"I'm sorry about Lucas. He's been through a lot - he's not usually this bitchy...I think. It's been a weird day." You tried to put Lucas in a better light; anyone would snap if they saw their younger sister's lifeless head.

"He's right, I'm not a very good leader. I came to see you and Ashley - but I don't have a fucking clue what I'm doing or what we need to do next." She bit her lip and struggled with her despair, making you wrap your arm around her shoulders comfortingly.

"Hey, you're a great leader. You told me the break the glass and therefore saved me from being trapped. You saved us from Jason with your pistol and quick-thinking - which kept us all alive. Maybe you don't know what to do; but none of us do. Like you said, worrying isn't going to keep us safe. We've just got to..."

"Wing it?" She wryly smiled.

"Exactly." You grinned as you stood up, wanting to head back downstairs.

"What a great plan." Ari sarcastically replied, following you into the hallway.

"It's the-" You were about to say "the best" as a joke, but your head started spinning; sending you crashing towards the floor.

"(Y/n)? (Y/n)! Stay with me, you're okay, you're okay." Ari worried, kneeling next to you and trying to keep you awake.

"My head...it's killing me." You faintly mumbled; seeing dozens and dozens of images flashing through your mind. You couldn't even hear or see Ariana anymore - your mind replaying memories at a rapid pace.

You saw everything; battling Freddy as a child, moving to 1428 Elm with Ashley, meeting him again, going to school, fighting him once more, the war to stay awake...it was endless. Ari was half-supporting, half-carrying you down the stairs, screaming something towards the others. But the thing that stunned and hurt you the most was the last vision you saw.

Turns out Freddy didn't kill Ashley...You did.
