❦Chapter 2: Part-Time Job❦
When you woke up it was early morning; the golden glow of dawn shining soothingly through your window. Your head still ached but that didn't matter to you - now you wanted to explore the house you were residing in. After quickly changing clothes, you opened your door and peeked down the hallway,
The silent gloom ran throughout the halls, the weak wind pushing the curtains a little with each outburst. The serene silence was oddly comforting though, being metaphorical music to your ears as you left your room. You spent ten minutes sneaking a look through each door, but after hearing your mother behind one of them you decided not to open that one.
This house had many rooms; a library, four bedrooms, a music room, a ballroom, a dining hall, a kitchen, a pantry, three studies, a wine cellar, three bathrooms, a few dressing rooms and a workout room. Perhaps you should call this house a mansion instead...?
"Good morning (Y/n)." You jumped as you saw your mother standing behind you - you were too busy looking at the kitchen.
"G-Good morning. Sorry...I didn't mean to pry I was just-"
"You were just looking around, I understand. Of course, a young lady doesn't sneak around - they politely ask for a tour." Your mother gently reprimanded, giving you a soft embrace.
"Right, right. They ask for a tour...got it." You noted and she smiled, glad you took it in.
"Would you care for some breakfast? We have one maid and one butler to take care of such trivial matters. Let's get seated in the dining room." She held your hand, giving it a delicate squeeze whilst she lead you towards the elegant dining room.
"Do you have any questions? About your past life? Or perhaps some of your memories have returned?" Your mother wondered as you two sat down; her expression almost souring at the last question.
"My memories haven't returned. I would like to know what past me did before I disappeared for a year. Did I have many friends? Did I have a job? Or anything of importance?" You quizzed curiously.
"You had...a few friends. They were of higher standing than your usual common folk. You and I were thinking about an engagement for you, but we hadn't decided yet. You also wanted a part-time job, so I was going to look into that for you." She answered, but she looked a little...what's the word? Shifty? It was strange.
"An engagement!?" You almost choked on thin air, not expecting that to come out of her mouth.
"Of course it wasn't a necessity! It was merely a plan. But would you like a part-time job? It would pass the time for you and help you come to terms with your life." Your mother rushed to reassure you about the engagement, making you relax.
"A part-time job sounds nice. Is there anywhere nearby that's hiring?" You asked with interest as the maid placed a plate in front of you. Breakfast for today was a traditional English breakfast, with a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. You weren't that hungry so you only ate a few bites, swallowing it down with the juice.
"Hmm, well I can't think of any off of the top of my head, but maybe there's some jobs in the local paper. Say Helena, be a dear and fetch the newspaper won't you?" Your mother turned her attention to the maid, who was busy clearing up plates.
"Yes Milady." The maid obediently nodded and left the room to do as she was ordered to do. She returned a few minutes later, passing your mother a tightly wrapped newspaper.
Your mother unraveled it and flicked it to the job-seeking page before giving it to you, shooting you a sweet smile. Looking down at it, your eyes scanned the page for any good job offerings; wanting to have a distraction from your amnesia. Who knows how long that'll last...

"Hey that waitress one sounds good." You pointed to the restaurant advert, liking the idea.
"A waitress? But you'd wait on people. You don't want to look common, do you dear?" She wrinkled her nose up in disgust and you flushed - not used to such snootiness.
"Well I like the job and it's description..." You mumbled uneasily, making her give a tinkly laugh.
"It's your decision darling. If you really want to play maid then do as you will." Your mother relented in amusement.
"I want to do it." You replied quietly, standing up and scraping your chair back with a slight screech.
"I see. You should probably go visit then...What's the restaurant called?" She sipped at her coffee - her pinky finger stuck out.
"The Autumn Oyster. It's not far from here, I could probably walk." You responded interestedly.
"I'll find their website and print you out some directions. But if you get tired of waiting on people below you, feel free to reconsider." Your mother gave a charming smile before she walked off; going to get you directions.
Your mother came back with a thin sheet of paper, a small map of Springwood printed on it. It also had fancy handwriting directing you straight to the restaurant, what a kind thing of your mother to do. After thanking her, you set off; feeling excited to see the city. It would be fun to look around - maybe you'd regain some memories along the way!
The blinding light of the sun beamed down on you whilst you descended down the entrance steps, seeing the town directly ahead (your house was located on the outskirts). You kept following the dirt road, humming under your breath as the town got closer and closer, the birds chirping in the trees and the tiny stones crunching beneath your feet.
Eventually you got onto the busy streets of Springwood - now being in the heart of the city instead of the outskirts. Students were on their way to school, adults on their way to work and other people having other places to be. You brushed past these people politely, taking care not to bump into anyone. You certainly didn't want to be a bother.
As you were looking over the street at a vivacious flower shop, a stranger on the other side of the street locked eyes with you; his green eyes glinting in a very mischievous way. Your gaze brimmed with confusion, but you were positive you'd seen him before. He wore a dusty fedora, a striped sweater and brown pants - his attire not fitting in with the rest of the people around you both.
The devilish stranger gave a rather bold wink and then carried on walking, blending into the crowd and quite literally disappearing. You kept looking for him when the people dispersed a little, but you still couldn't spot him. You decided to let it go and glanced down at your directions; seeing that you were less than a mile away from the restaurant.
Once there, you pulled open the door and entered The Autumn Oyster, your eyes skimming over the place interestedly. It was just so...mesmerising. Black velvet chairs were placed around white-clothed tables, crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and leather menus placed in front of each seat. This restaurant was extremely elegant; causing you to feel small.
It would be great if you could work here~
