❦Chapter 31: Twitchy Trust❦
"You have a beautiful name. Say, would you mind if I give you a quick check-up? I'm a little nervous Azereth might've harmed you in some way. I want to make sure you're 100% healthy." Althea worried over you as she stood up, grabbing some medical trinkets at the same time.
"Sure. How did Azareth know you were a healer by the way?" Your curiosity bubbled to the surface again whilst you let her check you over.
"He...He claimed my sister, Ariel - Angel of Nature. He took her virginity and she's never been the same since." Althea quietly answered, shining a small flashlight into your eyes to make sure they weren't hypnotised anymore.
"I-I'm so sorry." You bit your lip and flinched at the bright light, blinking rapidly.
"Hey don't be sorry, at least she's alive. Maybe she'll go back to normal one day. It's alright." She did her best to remain strong - even managing a smile.
"So how come you were in the dungeon if you're an angel of healing and not a guard?" You asked another question awkwardly.
"I was standing in for my friend Rampel - he's the Angel of Endurance. Rampel's got inner strength, stability and a fighting spirit. He's actually head guard around here, so I can see why I'm not a great temporary replacement." Althea chuckled ruefully; knowing she wasn't fit for such a role.
"You stopped me from letting Azereth free, so therefore you saved hundreds of female angels. I think you're a good replacement Althea." You kindly remarked.
"Well thank you (Y/n). You're a human right? But that can't be right...I'm sensing major power levels dancing through you. It's awfully confusing." She tilted her head in confusion and finished her check-up on you.
"I'm...a weird type of human. I have telekinetic powers - but I don't know why. Maybe I'm defective." You joked towards the end as you stood up, not wanting to sit any longer.
"You're not defective, you're special." Althea disagreed affectionately.
"I don't know about-"
"Althea! Have you seen-" Ashley bursted into the room, her wings flapping and her breathing uneven. Her wings had gone from white to grey...making you feel a little on edge. What was happening to her?
"(Y/n)! It's so good to see you! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry for earlier! Please tell me we can make up!" She panicked and dragged you into a doting hug; her wings curling around you too.
"Careful Ashley, don't smother her too much." Althea touched Ash's shoulder in amusement, but Ashley just pushed her away - annoyed by the healing angel.
"I was so worried you might've left! Because then Krueger could've gotten to you or maybe I wouldn't see you again! But you're here, you're still here." She sighed in relief after her tiny freakout, holding you close.
"Yeah...I guess I am." You acted a little huffy; still hurt by her snap from earlier.
"I really am sorry about before. I only wanted to make sure you were 100% safe - forgive me?" Ashley pleaded, giving puppy dog eyes and looking cute.
"Fine." You nicely relented.
"Yay!" Ash cheered happily, hugging you tighter.
"Ashley...what's happening to your wings? Why are they-?"
"It doesn't matter! Don't touch them!" Ashley recoiled from Althea's touch and sent her a defensive glare - making you very confused.
"Angel wings are supposed to be white...do you want me to alert Sister Helena? Or maybe Raphael?" Althea inquired worriedly.
"Who's Raphael?" You asked, bewildered.
"He's the head of healing - which I DON'T need. C'mon (Y/n)." Ash grabbed your hand and pulled you towards the door, glowering at Althea.
"Ash? Is something wrong?" You let her tug you out, but you were anxious about your friend.
"Nothing's wrong! I'm fine!" She smiled sweetly; her wild mood swings confusing you further.
"Uhh-"
"It's almost lunchtime, so let me give you a tour before it's time to eat!" Ashley offered and lead you down the hallway.
"Okay..." You uneasily nodded.
She gave you a quick tour of the palace before lunch, the castle-like building mesmerising you. It was stunning; in fact the whole place felt like a dream - designed to entrance you. After lunch Ashley showed you around the golden city, the angels being pleasant and polite whilst going around their business. When evening fell Ash took you to your room - seeing how tired you were.
"I'll get you a nightgown - it can't be comfy sleeping in what you're wearing now." She went towards your wardrobe and rifled through it; eventually holding up a gentle garment. A chiffon-coloured nightgown.
"Thank you." You thanked shyly, taking the pretty looking nightie from her. She respectfully left the room so you could change, but you could hear her pacing outside the bedroom. Why was she pacing? What was Ashley so tense about?
The moment you changed you went to peek at Ash, your eye looking through the keyhole. Something in her hand glinted...but what was it? What was-? A knife. Ashley was holding a jewel encrusted knife - the edge of it being very very sharp.
You were frozen as you processed this, fear trickling through your veins like cold water. Was she going to murder you? Why would she have a knife? You jumped and tripped backwards when she knocked on the door; jolting you out of your alarmed thoughts as she grew impatient.
"(Y/n)? You done yet, bud?"
Should you confront her?
"Getting a little bored out here, y'know!"
Or would she kill you too?!
"I-I...I'm done." You stammered back - pretending everything was fine.
"Why are you on the floor? Are you alright?" Ash opened the door and looked concerned to see you on your butt.
"Sorry, you just-uh, I mean-well...you st-startled me." You lied shakily, forcing out a light laugh.
"Sorry! Here, let me help you scaredy-cat." She giggled before holding out her hand - the knife not there. She'd probably hidden it somewhere.
You gave another feeble laugh and then sat on the bed, nervous to be around Ashley. Her sudden mood swings, her wings darkening -and oh yeah - the knife, was freaking you out. She wasn't the Ashley you knew on Earth. Not anymore, at least.
"You look gorgeous in that, even if it's only a nightgown. Tomorrow I can lend you one of my outfits - we'll look like twins!" Ash grew excited and you faintly smiled. Maybe the knife was just for...safety.
"I'm really, really tired. Yeah..." You faked a yawn and a stretch, giving a subtle hint for her to leave again.
"Want me to stay again tonight? I have duties to perform but just say the word and I'll abandon them." She grinned.
"No! I mean, no thanks - you've done so much already." You panicked but then controlled yourself; nudging her in false-affection.
"You sure you're okay? You're so jumpy." Ashley murmured as she observed your het-up form.
"Super exhausted. That uh...That tour wore me out - I'll be as right as rain tomorrow." You excused your weird behaviour and huddled underneath the bed covers, praying she'd buy it.
"Okay...sleep well then (Y/n). See you in the morning~" She smiled again and gave you a soft hug before moving towards the door.
Once she'd left, you hopped out of bed and locked the door - paranoid that she'd become some psychopath and stab you during the night. Then you took some Hypnocil, swigged it down with some water and returned to the comfy nest; hugging the quilt insecurely. The stress you felt was slowly growing - your situation feeling...oddly dangerous. Who was the villain here? Freddy? Azereth? Ash?
