❦Chapter 4: Sinister Stranger❦
Tuesday afternoon rolled round and so you got dressed in your work attire, fixing the white collar so that it didn't choke you. You tied your hair back into a ponytail and made sure your face, hands and nails were 100% clean before deciding you were ready - you couldn't go into work with an unwashed face.
The Autumn Oyster was only a tad busy when you arrived - guess it was the evening when things became crowded around here. You walked through the restaurant, nerves clogging your thoughts as you didn't know where to go. What were you meant to do? Where were you meant to go? How-
"So you actually got the job. Congrats." Lucas drawled, holding an empty drink tray and brushing a stray strand of hair away from his face whilst he approached you.
"Yeah, I did. So um, where am I supposed to go? Amy said this was a trial run, but-"
"Ellie's supposed to show you the ropes. I'll go fetch her, so don't freak out or anything." He sauntered off to go find this 'Ellie', leaving you to awkwardly stand by the drink bar.
"Yo, it's hella nice to meet you. My name's Eleanor but everyone calls me El or Ellie, so feel free to do the same." A blue-haired girl greeted you, being friendly as she shook your hand.
Her blue hair flowed past her shoulders, her chocolate-coloured eyes filled with warmth whilst she grinned. Thick eyeliner was outlining her eyes, each eye having a confident black wing as they almost met the edge of her eyebrows. Her skin was a snowy white, giving her appearance a dramatic yet dazzling image.
"Nice to meet you Ellie. I'm (Y/n)." You timidly introduced yourself, feeling incredibly nervous and unprepared.
"My job is to show you what to do and then return to my duties once you've gotten the hang of it. You ready?" She asked brightly.
"As ready as I'll ever be." You shyly replied, watching her go towards a table.
"Welcome to The Autumn Oyster! My name is Ellie and I'll be your waitress for this evening. Do you know what you'd like to drink? Or do you need some time to decide?" Ellie greeted a table of women with energy, making sure to be pleasant.
They conversed for a little while and Ellie went to grab their drinks, sending you a playful wink as she did so. She placed the drinks on the table and when the time came she brought them their food, being bouncy the entire time. Whilst they were eating Ellie skipped to your side, running her fingers through her exotic hair and looking satisfied.
"-And that's all you have to do! Any questions?" She grinned and waited for any inquiries from you. But you had none; it looked fairly easy.
"Then go get 'em tiger!" Ellie gave you a casual hug before nudging you towards a table, her brown eyes sparkling with amusement. After taking a deep breath, you approached the man sitting alone at the table - recognising him as the man you spotted yesterday.
The same one who'd vanished into thin air.
The same one who'd locked eyes with you.
The same mischievous expression.
And definitely the same green eyes.
"Good evening, sir. Do you know what you'd like to drink tonight or do you need some time to consider?" You spoke with as much politeness as you could muster, feeling that odd sense of déjà vu again.
"My my, are you usually this polite? How sweet." The man smiled - although it seemed to be rather mocking instead of pleasant.
"Oh...um...thank you." You unsurely replied, the joking tone actually calming you down a little bit.
"First day?" He questioned with a smirk and you let out a breathless laugh.
"Is it that obvious?" You feigned being disappointed, making him chuckle.
"You tell me." The fedora-wearing male responded wickedly.
"Yep, definitely obvious." You softly murmured as you picked up the other menus - he was by himself after all.
"Mmm, we agree on that then. I'll just have a bottle of Budweiser." He clasped his hands together on the tablecloth, seeming to enjoy your company.
"One~Budweiser~...Got it." You scribbled it down on the small notepad you had been given, giving him a gentle nod before turning to get the drinks. You froze when he quickly snatched up your wrist, holding you in place tightly.
"What the-?"
"What's your name, sweets?" The man curiously asked, his green eyes alight with mischief.
"U-Uh it's...it's (Y/n)." You relaxed a little as your heartbeat slowed down - you hadn't expected a silent jump-scare like that.
"(Y/n)...cute name. I like it. The name's Ferris...Ferris Kruegel." He purred proudly.
"Cool name." You echoed him, showing a playful smile of your own.
"So why are you working instead of being kept safe by mommy?" Ferris teased and kept his green eyes trained to your face; looking hungry. But not for food. No...it was more of a predatory expression. One that signalled superiority over you.
"How do you-?"
"Word spreads quickly in this town, (Y/n) dear. You're the girl who went...missing a year ago. Everybody knows." He smoothly spoke.
"Oh. Well I'm working because I want something to keep my mind off of it, that's all." You pulled your hand away from him, realising you actually had a job to do.
"Is that so?" Ferris had a smug look on his face - like he knew everything about you. It didn't creep you out but it was...weird.
"Yes. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to fetch your drink. Please take your time whilst you decide what to order." You wrapped up the conversation and carried the unused menus away, heading towards the drink bar.
"Do tell me when you regain your memories, I'd hate for them to remain... locked." He called after you; causing you to stop in your tracks. He...He knew. How did he know? Taking a deep breath you ignored his amused question, placing the menus on a side table before opening the drink bar's fridge.
"Is something the matter (Y/n)? You look a little pale after talking to that customer...do you want me to get Amy?" Ellie worried over you as she rested her arms on the bar counter.
"No no! It's nothing, I'm just a little nervous still." You lied, forcing a faint smile to your face whilst you brought out a bottle of Budweiser.
"Aww, that's okay! You'll get the hang of it, it'll be a piece of cake if you just keep at it. I'll be here if you need anything." Ellie declared cheerily, and you gave a real smile this time.
"Thanks Ellie. Well I'd better get back to work, there're still tables left." You left the drink bar - unwillingly heading back to Ferris's table.
"Here's your drink sir. Do you know what you'd like to eat or are you still deciding?" You placed the bottle of Budweiser down, trying to regain the role of a proper waitress.
"I actually only came for a drink. Don't mind me, just keep doing your job. You're doing simply wonderful so far." Now he was taunting you; what was he trying to pull? And who comes for just a drink when you go to a restaurant - which is for food?
"Thanks..." You mumbled uncertainly, taking his menu and walking off again. Maybe the other tables wouldn't be as...strange as Ferris was being.
Being a waitress wasn't as easy as you expected, but it wasn't dangerously difficult either - you thought you were pretty good at it. However the thing that unnerved you was the fact that Ferris kept on watching you. His sly eyes were completely pinned to you; occasionally looking down to take a swig of his beer.
The whole time he didn't move from his chair - not doing anything at all. How can one person sit by themselves and be entertained by not doing anything? It was only when your shift finished that Ferris eventually stood up, throwing some money onto the bill and heading towards the door.
You walked towards the door also, halting as Ferris turned back around and tilted his fedora at you. How did he know to turn around at that specific moment? Confusion flittered across your face but you gave him a dazed wave in return, hurrying past him to get home. You kept walking fast - a little freaked out by him.
You threw a look back and got even more spooked when he simply stood there, an evil grin spread across his features. A jolt of fear flashed down your spine and you quickened your pace; now making it your mission to get home as quickly as possible.
