Chapter 16: Dragon Hearts

The group reached the dragon lands and where greeted as expected. "Hello Aurum." Emlyn said greeting her old friend that was the ruler of the dragons.

"Hello Emlyn it is nice to see you again, what brings you here?" He asked and Emlyn looked nervous.

"I need two dragon hearts of dragons that lost their lives in heroic battles. The spell I'm using to stop Camilla requires them." Emlyn responded to the dragon.

The dragon looked like he was having deja Vu like he had heard this request before, but he tried to hide it. "I suppose we can help with that, but I can't just give them to you. You have to prove your worthy of even holding one." He said and Emlyn nodded.

"I'm willing to do whatever you need me to." She replied and Aurum nodded.

"Follow me." They followed the dragon to a cave where there was a light snoring coming inside. "We aren't like birds you don't just kick us out of the nest and we start flying. We have to be taught. However when we aren't able to teach another to fly they hide in this cave because they feel like they aren't worthy of being a dragon."

Emlyn began to understand her task, "You want me to teach this dragon how to fly?" She asked and Aurum nodded.

"Very good, I believe if you can teach this dragon to fly and help him understand that he is worthy of being a dragon, you are more then worthy of holding a dragon heart." Aurum left leaving her to it and Emlyn carefully approached the cavern.

"Um hello? My name's Emlyn.." she shouted into the cave. A dragons head emerged slowly.

The dragon was gold and looked a lot like Aurum, "What do you want?" He asked her.

"What's your name?" She asked

"Auric." He stated plainly, "now what do you want?"

"I want to teach you to fly!" She said excitedly hoping to brighten this poor guys mood.

"Ha! That's a good one, but I can't fly." He said annoyed but sad.

"Sure you can just give me a chance, what's the worst that could happen?" She challenged him and he glared at her but emerged from his cave.

"Fine then, teach me to fly. But if a dragon can't I'm sure a human can't." He challenged her back and she went over and hoped on Inferno's back.

"Alright Inferno lift up." Inferno carefully flapped his wings lifting up and began to flap them to stay steady. Emlyn thought it was a lot like swimming. Humans treaded water and dragons treaded air.

Inferno landed setting her down. Emlyn carefully walked around Auric and began positing his wings the same way Inferno's we're positioned. "Lift up." She told him, he rolled his eyes and lifted up into the air. "Now start flapping your wings."

He began to flap to rapidly at first but then slowed down as he became more comfortable. "Hey I did it!" He said and landed.

"You did! But we aren't done yet!" Emlyn carefully watched Inferno fly and learned how he positioned his wings and changed direction before turning back to Auric. "Alright I'm gonna hop on your back and we are gonna do this together."

Auric looked worried hoping he wouldn't drop her as she climbed onto his back. He lifted up and Emlyn carefully explained to him how to change his wing position to start flying. Auric carefully began to fly around and got better as he became more comfortable.

That was until a gust of wind knocked him over a little and Emlyn fell off and began to fall at a rapid pace. Auric's instincts took over and he dashed towards Emlyn. All the other dragons looked in the direction of the scream and shouted excitedly at the king.

"Look Aurum he's flying!" Aurum looked off into the distance and saw his son finally flying as he raced to catch the fairytale world's queen.

Thankfully he reached her just in time and swooped her up and then landed in front of his father setting her down. The others ran down and met them at the bottom.

"Congratulations to you both, well done Auric and of course you Emlyn have earned yourself these." He passed her the satchel with the two dragon hearts.

Auric smiled at his dad never being more poured of what he accomplished as he turned to Emlyn, "Thank you I'm forever in your service. I'd like to go alone to accompany you on your journey."

"Well if it's alright with your dad of course you are welcome." They all glanced at Aurum who nodded.

"I believe it's a great idea, now go on and save the world from Camilla again." He stated and the group turned to start there journey once again.

"Next stop the water lands to see the Mermaids!" Stella said excitedly and lead the way.
