I've put so much attention and thought into Darling and Nix's backstories that I completely forgot my favorite's: 

Cynric.

Well, I always had the idea that he was just a carefree piece of crap which lounged around and ate grapes like a real weirdo-

BUT

When I updated that comic in my artbook involving his father, his story began to grow 'depth'.

And the more I thought about it, the more I became invested in his story as well.

What was his life like?

Well, here is some general ideas I had uwu

BUT FIRST, WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW:

- Cynric was a piece of sh- when he was first introduced. An absolute narcissistic, selfish pile of doodoo-

- He is a king

- He has a best friend named Violet. She is his secretary

- He is (currently) married to Darling uwu

- He is no longer such a butt.

BUT

WHY?

Well, let's start developing, shall we?

Now presenting Cynric's general story uwu

Cynric was born to a loving mother and father. They were excited for their first child and gladly gave him overflowing attention. Cynric didn't mind, basking in their love.

Age 1 - 3, he was constantly surrounded by family and servants, all ogling and worrying about the new baby. They showered him with toys and new and exciting things.

At the age of 4, he started his education and began to learn how to read and write. His parents taught him a few things but he was mainly tutored by different teachers, entrusted with his education.

At the age of 5, he asks his parents if he was going to have a little sister since he always felt a bit lonely when they were busy. His parents thought about it and when he turned 6, he got a little sister. The 'little sister', however, was a orphan from their kingdom: A thin and pale cat monster which fought to stay ahead in her education. When Cynric and Violet first met, it was like friends-at-first-sight. They soon became best friends and weren't apart since.

At age 6, he met the princess of another kingdom (insert name here lol- that orange skeleton girl from the art book) and became 'friends'. He played with her and Violet, but stopped when she started bullying Violet for not being royal. After that, he pretended to be her friend, despising her with every passing encounter.

At age 7, he learned how to (dab on them haters--- JJKJK-) address the public and performed his first royal address. He messed up a little here and there, but everyone cheered nonetheless. He also started becoming friends with his servants.

At Age 8, he was excelling in his studies and spent countless hours learning and relearning until he knew it by heart. He was completely committed to the possible future of ruling and excitedly counted down the years. Violet and him began to go out a bit more too, exploring the kingdom and what it had to offer. This only motivated him further, not to mention the support his best friend gave him.

At age 9, he begun his 'experimental' stage. He took many lessons for various things (music, dance, art, writing, sports, crafts, self-defense, combat, etc.) and earned many trusted companions. Soon, he was popular among the people and he strived every day to make his father proud (and he did uwu).

Age 10 was a special year. He was finished training and had went off to go change when he couldn't stop staring at all of the shirtless men. He later conversed with Violet about this and she explained that "Dood, ur totally gay-". He immediately denied the accusation, thinking that liking men was a sin among sin because the whole 'You need a Queen' thing and hid it. As much as he hated it though, he found himself liking his own sex more and more. 
This hit harder when a few female children confessed their crushes to him one day and he didn't feel any romantic embarrassment of any sort. He began to hide this secret, only telling Violet about it a few times before quickly shutting the conversation down once it was done.

Age 11 is when he finally 'stepped out of the closet'.  To his surprise, his parents completely accepted this and accepted who he was. He was overall shocked and felt happier than ever. He also found out that Violet was not his biological sister (even though for the longest of time, he was confused to. He always asked his parents, "When am I getting my fur?"). It bummed him out a bit but they stayed best buds nonetheless uwu

Age 12-16 were long years of study, preparation, and working things out. He was supposed to be crowned when he turned 16 but he asked his parents if he could travel the world. His mother and father were fairly hesitant but obliged, packing him with all the things he would need.

Age 16- 22, a time full of adventure, exploration, and the quest for love. He had to admit, he had a lot of fun in those times, but it always hurt in the end. 
Why?
Because he always met amazing people. Always met an amazing guy. 
Always got shot down.
He either screwed up or the universe screwed him up, he started losing hope. (HENCE THE SONG: Waiting for Love. I plan to make a possible animatic in the future if I can about these adventures uwu)

Age 23, he was alone. He decided that he wait another year to not go home, heartbroken and battered. His confidence was down the drain. However, that was a year full of healing too with the help of distraction after distraction.
Soon, he got his self-confidence back (mainly through swordplay or gambling). His best friend stuck by his side, however saddened by what her friend had become.

At age 24, he arrives back home, a completely new person. His parents are as kind as ever, but they recoil when they see what their beautiful son has become. Cynric was cynical and greedy, refusing love. He claims to love his family very much but the parents both knew he might not anymore.

At age 25, Cynric returns to his studies and learns more, growing more and more frustrated by the day. His friendships and popularity fade with time and he is alone now. Violet stays by his side however, the only true person he could trust.

26, at late fall, his parents finally pass away. Cynric is filled with grief, but the show must go on. He receives his crown and turns his parents' loving kingdom into one of constant labor. They are the most successful yet the most tortured. Violet is worried.

27 - 30s. He continues to rule his land, the kingdom slowly turning sour and horrible. Cynric became blind to the needy and started caring of his own feelings. Violet, terrified, continued to stay true and loyal to the end.

Then

He is approached with a trade proposal from a city past the great mountains, a city which doesn't use carriages but cars. Intrigued, he accepts and arranges a meeting.

Later that week, Violet and Cynric travel to the city together, awed by the new things they encounter. They meet up with the infamous ambassador of monsters and they exchange a few words. Of course, Cynric wants this to be only for his benefit so he arranges the ambassador's assassination later in the month while he stays there, sending Violet back to the castle to look over his kingdom. 

During the month, he arranges their plans and discusses business with the council of the city. They talk and the king gets on good terms with the ambassador. 

They share a few words and start hanging out together. He then met all of their friends, greeting the mass variety of monsters he meets. Cynric then turns to the last monster.

"Hello and salutations." Cynric holds out a hand. The other took a step back, shifting behind the pale human. 

"Ah, he's shy." They scoffed, waving a hand. They gestured to him. "This is the ambassador's personal guard."

"It is a pleasure to meet you." His hand was still out for the creature to hold. They didn't move. Cynric blinked and let his hand fall to his side, nodding. 

Interesting.

Little did he know, the small monster was going to change his life

Forever.
