Chapter 12: Orc Attack 12-4-16
Aragorn: 8 years old
He didn't have much strength due to his head being pounded into a wall, but he struggled anyway. One hand was over his mouth enabling him not to make any noise from his voice box. And another arm around his stomach. Somebody was carrying him.
"Shh, don't struggle," the voice said.
It sounded nothing like an Orcs voice. They turned another corner and went into a dark room. Aragorn was set down in the corner of the room. He felt his legs hit the ground, so he tried to run. But whoever was next to him held him in the corner. The figures hand was still over Aragorn's bloody mouth.
"It's Haldir," the figure whispered.
Aragorn remembered the Elf that had said hello to him at the feast the other night. He stopped moving and tried to see through the darkness of the dim room. The hand over his mouth let go and Aragorn took a deep breath.
"They saw me!" Aragorn whispered alarmed.
"Shh, somebody's coming. Do as I say and don't make a sound," Haldir whispered.
Haldir pushed Aragorn down into a sitting potion and then sat himself. Aragorn curled himself up into a ball and Haldir put himself over him. He wore a black cloak that covered both their bodies. Just then the doors opened to the room and a faint light could be seen.
Aragorn could now barely see Haldir's gentle face looking down at him, protecting him.
"Nothing's in here!" a growling voice said in the room, "Nothing to kill,"
Aragorn could tell it was an Orc. Then there was a loud crash that made Aragorn jump. He closed his eyes and licked his burning lips.
"Keep going!" another harsh voice said.
Then the light went out and there was silence. Haldir kept his position for only a minute longer and then he got off Aragorn. They both stood.
"I need to take you to Elrond," Haldir whispered.
"Is everybody okay?" Aragorn asked.
"I don't know, but thank goodness I found you before the Orcs killed or took you," he crouched down to Aragorn's level and continued, "I'm going to need you to keep your head down and stay inside of my cloak, okay?"
Aragorn nodded getting even more stressed. Haldir took Aragorn in his arms and Aragorn wrapped his arms around his neck and tucked his head down. Haldir pulled his dark cloak over him and then ran out of the room.
Haldir ran out of the building and into the night. He looked around for Orcs, but only saw some far away being fought by other Elves. He ran and ran, trying to make his way to Elrond's building. However, on his way there he happened to find Elrond running towards him.
"Lord Elrond!" Haldir called.
"Haldir!" Elrond said and stopped in front of him, "Where's Estel!?"
"I have him," Haldir said.
"Thank the Iluvitar you found him," Elrond said overjoyed.
Aragorn lifted his head and Haldir took off the cloak from around his body.
Elrond held Aragorn's small face in his hands and kissed his nose as he then spotted his blood-stained lips.
"I'll be okay. Haldir saved me," Aragorn said not wanting the Elf to worry about such a small thing.
Haldir smiled and handed Aragorn to the open arms of Elrond.
"Indeed, he did," Elrond said and smiled.
"I will be off then," Haldir said and looked around again, "Be careful,"
"Same to you," Elrond said.
Then both Elves went in different directions. Elrond was heading for a small shack type structure that Aragorn knew hide a secret underground room inside. They made their way to the shack and Elrond opened a secret hatch on the ground in the corner of the small space. He then lowered Aragorn into it and said,
"Hide down there for now. I am going to go get Arwen and then be back, stay here," Elrond instructed firmly.
Aragorn and Elrond both turned around in different ways. Except somebody had been watching Elrond. As he turned around, an Orc hit him in the face with the handle of its sword. The impact made Elrond fall into his secret room onto his back. Aragorn turned around and ducked behind some barrels that where in the small room.
He watched as about six or seven Orcs filled the secret basement area. Elrond slowly got up and backed up. He drew his sword and pointed it at the oncoming Orcs.
"Trying to hide, are we?" one Orc growled.
"The Elf Lord of Rivendell must die," another snapped.
"Get out at once," Elrond demanded.
There were too many Orcs now that anybody could barely move near the entrance of the secret door. Elrond fought off the Orcs even though it was hard to move around. Since it was so packed in there, two Orcs were able to take Elrond's arms and pin him to the nearby wall.
"Let go you monsters!" he shouted panicked.
An Orc with a hideous looking face came forward. It had one eye and the other was completely white and rolled back into its brain. The one-eyed Orc took out a bow that had been held on its back a moment before. It pulled it back and aimed straight at Elrond's sweating face.
"Right in-between your eyes," the orc snarled holding the arrow tightly to the bow.
Aragorn had to do something. He looked around for something to throw.
Anything. Anything will do. Something small. Got it!
Aragorn found a dagger stuck to one of the barrels. He took in his hands.
"Get off me you cowards!" Elrond screamed.
"Your Elf race is over!" the Orc countered.
Aragorn stood up from behind the barrels and aimed the dagger at the Orcs head. His hand started to shake, so he closed his eyes and concentrated hard. If he missed his target, Elrond would be dead and the Orcs would kill him as well. That was not an option. He drew the dagger back and then as if in slow motion, he threw it.
Just as he aimed, the knife went straight through the Orcs head. Blood oozed from its skull and it fell to the ground in a heap. The arrow that was set to its bow fired and shot one of the Orcs holding Elrond to the wall. All the Orcs in the room looked to Aragorn.
"Kill him!" one said and then they were all after the small boy.
Elrond pushed Orcs out of the way and stabbed them with his sword.
"Estel, run!" Elrond shouted even though he couldn't see his child.
Aragorn dodged the many Orc arms reaching for him. He tumbled to the floor and jumped out of the way most of the time. Finally, he got to the secret door untouched surprisingly. He scrambled up the short ladder and was out.
But he wasn't safe yet. An Orc grabbed his boot from down below. Aragorn was light enough to be dragged across the floor. He reached out and grabbed the leg of a table that was in the small shack room.
With his other hand, he unbuckled the boot quickly trying not to let go of the table. The Orc pulled hard and Aragorn's boot came off. Aragorn unbuckled his other boot and smashed another Orc hard on the head with it. Then he dashed out of the room barefoot.
Once he was outside he looked to the right and then the left. To the right, he saw the dark forest calling his name. To the left was a small building. The building wasn't just any random building in Rivendell though. It was Arwen's building. Aragorn headed in the direction of the woods, but stopped.
I can't leave her. She will get taken or killed.
Aragorn turned and ran for Arwen's room hoping he wasn't too late.
