Chapter 24: Death 1-24-17
Aragorn: 8 years old
The sun was doing down and now and Aragorn had forced himself to stay awake all day. He hadn't wanted to miss a single piece of this adventure. Aragorn was very tired though and knew he would have to sleep sometime soon.
Hokel was turning more stressed by the minute. Aragorn could tell this because the Elf kept tightening his grip around his stomach and looking around. Aragorn couldn't tell anything was off, but apparently Hokel did.
"Moonbeam, slow down please," Hokel suddenly said.
Moonbeam obeyed and slowed into a slow walk. Hokel started sniffing the air and looking behind him.
"What's wrong?" Aragorn asked.
"Something's not right,"
"What do you sense?"
Hokel was silent trying to figure out what exactly he felt.
"Evil is lurking," he finally said.
"Orcs?" Aragorn asked fast and frightened.
Aragorn saw the Elf's ears twitch and his eyes went wider. His head swiveled around trying to see through the darkness of night.
"Yes, and they..." Hokel was cut off by something that made him gasp.
Before either Hokel or Aragorn knew what was happening, Moonbeam reared up on her back legs and neighed loudly. Both fell on their back on the ground. Aragorn looked to Hokel and almost screamed at what he was witnessing.
Hokel was lying on his back with an arrow piercing through his back and jetting out from his chest. Aragorn put a hand to his mouth to stop himself from screaming.
"No!" he cried and tears immediately started flowing from his eyes.
Hokel was having hard time breathing and his eyes kept opening and closing. He was gasping for air. Aragorn grabbed his hand tightly.
He looked at the point of the arrow that had pierced his new friend. Anger quickly filled his heart as he recognized the arrow tip. It was an Orc's arrow tip. He knew this because he had seen if before... in his father's chest long ago. Aragorn's stomach churned and he felt he might be sick.
"Please, stay with me!" Aragorn choked desperately, "What do I do?"
"E-Estel, Estel, Estel," Hokel gasped, "You... you have to... leave... me," Hokel said coughing in-between words.
"No, no... I need you and you need me," Aragorn said and took the end of Hokel's cloak.
He started dabbing the area of pooling blood around where the arrow had gone through the Elf's body.
"Estel," Hokel said, "They are coming! You must... go to the..."
There was a long pause and Aragorn squeezed Hokel's hand.
"Go to the woods... that's Lorien," Hokel finished and then coughed again.
"Please..." Aragorn whispered.
He couldn't talk any louder through his tears. He bowed his head down on Hokel's chest as he let his tears pour out. A sudden flashback came to mind as he remembered his mother doing the same thing over his dead father.
"Get up!" Aragorn jumped at the sudden voice from behind him.
He whirled around frightened and looked straight up at an Orc. Aragorn looked up to the Orc frightened by its face and ugly body. Its face was covered in warts and was oval shaped with dried blood on it. From behind the single Orc came at least twenty more.
"Get up!" the Orc repeated.
An Orc from behind the leader Orc talking to Aragorn held a loaded bow. They were aiming at Moonbeam who was still frantically neighing and jumping around behind Aragorn.
"Don't!" Aragorn screamed and stood up, "Please don't shoot her!"
"Why not?" another Orc snarled, "Its good meat!"
"No!" Aragorn screamed again still crying, "I will go with you. Just don't shoot... please,"
"Estel... no," Hokel whispered through a choking sound.
Aragorn didn't look down to Hokel; he had a plan in mind.
"I won't run," Aragorn said quietly.
Not at first anyway. I'll fight.
The Orcs started circling Aragorn as he spoke. He tried keeping his eyes on all of them, but that was hard. He stole one last glance at Hokel and watched as the Elf's eyes rolled back into his head and he stopped struggling and making noise. More tears filled Aragorn's eyes and he looked away from his now dead friend.
"Don't try anything," the main Orc growled.
Disgusted by his words, Aragorn looked to Moonbeam and she held her face close to his. Aragorn cupped his hands around his mouth and whispered into Moonbeam's open ear.
"Go to Elrond,"
"What did you say!?" the Orc shouted and stepped closer to Aragorn.
Aragorn shoved Moonbeam away from him and she went running away. She knocked down two Orcs in her way which put a hole in the circle the Orcs had made around Aragorn.
Looking down to the now dead Hokel, the Orc asked slyly,
"And why was a human with an Elf?"
Aragorn looked from Hokel to the Orc in front of him not wanting to answer the question.
"I don't know," he murmured not wanting to make up a lie that probably wouldn't even make any sense anyway.
The Orc in front of Aragorn pulled a bottle out from his belt. Inside was a dark black liquid that sloshed back and forth. Aragorn wasn't sure what it was, but he was sure the Orc would want him to drink the mystery substance.
"Drink this," the Orc said.
Why haven't they killed me yet? Are they the ones hunting me?
Aragorn shook his head and stepped back.
"What is it?" he asked in only a whisper.
"Who cares!" the Orc said and reached out for Aragorn.
Before the boy could get away, the Orc had already got a hold of his arm. Aragorn struggled, but he already knew the power of Orcs was impossible to escape unless you had a set plan.
"Drink!" the Orc shouted.
"What do you want from me!?" Aragorn shouted as loud as his voice could go, which wasn't that loud at all.
"Who are you?" the Orc leader asked and held the liquid closer to his face.
Aragorn squeezed his lips together tight and shook his head frantically back and forth.
"Fine! Then I will force it down your throat and we will take you anyway!" the Orc shouted.
All the Orcs cheered waiting for the performance. Aragorn kicked the Orc in the knee, but it didn't affect the Orc at all.
"We will bring you to our master and if he wants you, fine, but if not... we will have our ways with you," the Orc turned to the Orcs gathered behind him and said, "Hold him,"
An Orc from behind pinned Aragorn's hands behind his back and he winced at the pain of his broken arm being yanked back.
The Orc with the black liquid grabbed Aragorn's jaw and squeezed hard. Aragorn closed his eyes and pierced his lips tighter together. It wasn't until the Orc dug his incredibly sharp nails into Aragorn's face, that he had no choice but to open his mouth. The Orc brought the liquid up to Aragorn's mouth and poured it in.
At the feeling of the liquid in his mouth stung and he jerked his head back and then brought it forward with lots of force. That made all the liquid fall out of his mouth and splat it onto the ground in front of the Orc.
"Drink!" the Orc screamed and grabbed Aragorn's face again.
The Orc put the liquid to his mouth again. This time the Orc made sure Aragorn's head stayed straight up, so he couldn't spit the liquid out. The Orc held Aragorn's head in both of his sturdy hands and made sure he couldn't move.
This made Aragorn gurgle on the liquid and start coughing as he started chocking on it. The liquid went all over the Orcs face, but still some had gone down Aragorn's throat. The Orc poured the rest of the black water into Aragorn's mouth and did the same thing as before.
He started chocking again and tried kicking the Orcs away, but he couldn't breathe. His whole mouth was burning from the liquid as well leaving his mouth to become numbed. The Orc pushed Aragorn's mouth closed and forced him to swallow the liquid by pushing his cheeks together and piercing his lips closed.
After all the liquid had gone down Aragorn's esophagus, the Orc backed up with a smile on his face knowing he had won. Aragorn had a plan and he was going to try and make it work. He looked out into the distance with a faraway look in his eyes almost as if he were frozen.
"It must be working," one of the Orcs said watching Aragorn closely.
"Quiet," the one in front of Aragorn said and stared at him.
Eventually Aragorn closed his eyes and fell backwards as all of his limbs had gone limp. He had fallen straight into the Orc behind him. That Orc let him fall to the ground and Aragorn wasn't sure what happened after that.
