Chapter 37: Drawn too Close 3-12-17

A/N: This picture is obviously not when Aragorn was 12! I just found it and thought it looked pretty cool!

Aragorn: 12 years old

"Get up," Elladan said, "Get up!" he shouted taking out his bow and aiming it at the nearby trees.

"What has lead them to come into our territory?" Lagorion asked alarmed as he helped Elrohir get Aragorn to stand.

"Run," Elladan said, as his keen eyes scanned the trees.

"Don't shoot," Elrohir said and pulled down his brothers bow, "We must not fight this one. We must escape without being seen. There are four of us, one wounded. There are probably over a hundred Orcs,"

Elladan was always the more violent of the two twins, but he understood what his brother was saying. Aragorn was weaker than normal by the fall he had from the moose, but he knew they had to get out of the woods. Lagorion and Aragorn started running and close behind was Elladan and Elrohir.

"Quiet, quiet!" Elladan whispered to Aragorn as his feet were clopping to harshly on the ground.

He tried running less quietly, but it was too hard not being an Elf.

"I can't," he whispered back loudly.

Elladan looked behind his shoulder and saw movement. He grabbed Aragorn from Lagorion and turned to the right. Elrohir and Lagorion followed behind quietly. Elladan roughly pushed Aragorn in- between two large boulders. The boulders held inside a small cave like structure.

Aragorn crawled to the back corner of the rock cave and the other three Elves were close behind. Lagorion grabbed a large leaf quickly and covered the entrance of the cave with the large leaf. It was dark besides the small amount of light coming in from the leaf.

"Shh..." Elrohir said and put his hand over Aragorn's mouth.

He had been breathing too deeply and Elrohir could sense the Orcs just outside their hiding spot. Nobody made a single sound or moved. Aragorn slowed his breathing and Elrohir slowly took down his hand from his little brother's lips.

"We took a wrong turn!" a voice from outside the cave said.

Aragorn jumped at how close the voice sounded. It sounded like an Orc for sure.

"It's your fault!" another voice shouted.

Then the three Elves and Aragorn heard the Orcs start to fight outside. From inside the cave, all four-huddled close together worried that the leaf would move out of place from the entrance.

"STOP!" another Orc screamed.

"What is it?"

"I smell something... something like flesh,"

Lagorion looked worriedly towards Aragorn as he saw the open wound on his face and arms. Elrohir hadn't gotten a chance to heal Aragorn up all the way and blood was still visible on his cuts.

"I smell, Elves. We are too close to their territory. If we get caught here, they will slaughter us. Is that what Sauron wants?" a deep voice said from above.

"It's something else. I smell... man flesh,"

Aragorn jerked back alarmed by the keen sense of smell the Orcs had. Elladan put a finger to his lips. There was an alarming silence from above which spooked all four hiding. Aragorn and the other three Elves all eyed the leaf covering their hiding spot.

Then the worst possible thing happened. The leaf was taken off their hiding place.

Aragorn gasped as an Orcs face came into view through the entrance. They were trapped and both sides, good and evil, knew this.

"There you are," the Orc spat.

Elladan was already ready and shot the Orc with an arrow directly between its eyes. The Orc fell with a scream and died on the ground. Elrohir immediately stood in front of Aragorn as Lagorion and Elladan jumped out of the hiding place they were in and into the open. Elrohir stayed back with Aragorn.

"I can fight," Aragorn said to him.

"Hold on," Elrohir commanded and held him back.

"I knew I smelt Elf!" another Orc said, "Any more down there?"

"No," Elladan stated, maybe a little too fast.

"He's lying, kill him!" the Orc shouted.

The whole pack of Orcs shouted in agreement and all attacked. Elladan and Lagorion started slashing at the Orcs as they attacked. There looked to be about fifty Orcs... so far at least.

From inside of the cave still, Aragorn and Elrohir were waiting for the prime moment to escape. Elrohir knew he had to get Aragorn safely back to Rivendell and leave the other two behind. He didn't want too, but he had orders to get Aragorn back safe.

"You stay close to me and run as fast as you can, got it?" Elrohir whispered fast.

Aragorn nodded getting ready to run.

"Now!" Elrohir said and jumped out of the cave and then pulled Aragorn up and out as well.

Elrohir caught Elladan's eyes and he nodded. Elrohir and Aragorn took off through the woods. Elrohir grabbed for Aragorn's hand and helped pull him along. They had to get away from the Orcs as soon as possible and as far away as they could.

They had been running for about two minutes when an Orc jumped in front of Elrohir. The Orc was too close to the Elf and he couldn't get out his weapon in time. The Orc brought up his sword, but Aragorn dashed forward and kicked the Orc back with a powerful foot. He drew his knife and finished off the Orc.

Before Elrohir could give him thanks, any other few Orcs got in- between Aragorn and Elrohir. The Elf took his two knives in hands and started defending himself and Aragorn. Soon there was too many Orcs upon them and Aragorn was forced to help, in which he didn't mind at all.

He took his knife, which was the only weapon he had and fought. Aragorn was doing good until, Elrohir saw what the Orcs were trying to do to their victims. They were pushing them further towards the river so they would fall in. Aragorn and himself were on the brink of falling off a five-foot cliff into a river below.

A new horror then struck Elrohir. Aragorn couldn't swim. He was never taught how. Even Elves weren't that great at swimming but they could still do it.

Aragorn pushed an Orc over and punched another one out of the way. In an instant, there were two Orcs on the human and Elrohir couldn't do anything but watch as Aragorn was pushed over the edge of the small cliff.

He took his eyes off the Orcs that he was fighting and ran to the edge of the small cliff. He watched his little brother fall and splash into the water below. The two Orcs that had been on him had also fallen in.

"Estel!" Elrohir screamed.

He threw both his knives at oncoming Orcs and then turned and dived into the water below.

A/N: Hopefully the gif above worked. It was of splashing water. :)
