Chapter 49: Opponents 2-19-17

Aragorn: 17 years old

The next night, the names of the opponents where posted on Elrond's door again. Aragorn and Lagorion where both heading there at the moment wanting to see who each of them would be going against at the next Trial.

Basically, all the Elves who would be in the Trials where there, crowding the area. But it wasn't just the Elves that were competing, there were the Elves family and friends crowding around the papers. Aragorn and Lagorion would still have to wait.

"Do you think I will be lucky again?" Aragorn asked as they waited to get past.

"Luck?" Lagorion questioned, "You did the fight yourself, you won, but not on luck,"

Aragorn looked ahead and thought about that as he shrugged. Greakth pushed his way past many Elves as he made his way to the paper on Elrond's door. Aragorn saw him look at the paper and by the look on his face he was upset.

Probably means he isn't my opponent. Thank goodness!

Lagorion noted his personality too and hoped Greakth wasn't his opponent. Greakth then turned around and stalked away.

About an hour went by and Aragorn and Lagorion where still waiting to see who their opponents where to be. Aragorn yawned. It was past midnight already.

"You need your rest. I can tell you who you will be facing in the morning," Lagorion offered.

"It's alright, I can wait," Aragorn said his eyes dropping with tiredness.

"No, you are going to bed, now," Lagorion commanded.

He felt as if he were being his father telling him what to do.

"Fine, but come first thing to my room," Aragorn said as he pointed at Lagorion.

"I will, have a good rest," Lagorion said.

Aragorn stumbled off ready to go to bed after the first two Trials. He was so tired after especially the second Trial vs Lyki. He opened his door, took off his belt, and plopped into his bed as he dozed off.

-----

The next morning, Aragorn woke up to see Lagorion sitting quietly next to his bed with his head looking to the floor. Aragorn had never seen him look so awful before.

"Lag?" Aragorn whispered.

Lagorion's head shot up looking frightened. He said,

"Oh, sorry. I didn't realize you were up,"

"Is everything okay?" Aragorn asked sitting up.

His blanket hadn't been over him all night since he had just flopped on the bed the night before. He looked around for his belt and found it at the foot of the bed. Aragorn strapped it around his waist and then perched on the side of the cushion waiting for Lagorion to speak.

"What happened last night after I went to bed?" Aragorn asked.

"I waited and found out who both of us are going against," then Lagorion was quiet again and couldn't meet Aragorn's face.

"So, who am I going against?" Aragorn asked trying to stay calm.

Greakth? Please no...

Lagorion stood up and paced in front of Aragorn. He ran his hands through his hair which held braids that kept his hair away from his face.

"Lag, tell me... please," Aragorn insisted.

"Estel," Lagorion stopped in front of Aragorn and kneeled down to his level, "Your opponent is... well... its... me,"

Aragorn's eyes lit up like a firework. A scared firework that would disappoint its audience if it didn't light and explode. His mouth was suddenly dry and he croaked,

"What?"

Maybe I didn't hear him right. Or this is a dream.

"Your opponent is me," Lagorion said again.

Aragorn shook his head refusing the thought as he said,

"No, Lagorion. I can't go against you,"

"I thought the same way," Lagorion explained, "I even talked to Lord Elrond, but he said nothing otherwise. It's done, we go against each other, or we are both out of the Trials,"

Aragorn fiddled with his fingers and continued shaking his head suddenly terrified.

"It's okay, Estel," Lagorion tried comforting, "Everything will go well. You'll see,"

Aragorn's eyebrows where curved straight and then up at the tips. His worried expression.

"Come on, let's go," Lagorion said, "We are almost late. Are turn is first, before Greakth's,"

"Aright, let's go," Aragorn said and stood up.

As they walked to the Trial circle, Lagorion said,

"I am sorry in advance to whatever may happen,"

"Me too, Lag. Me too,"

A/N: Where you expecting that!? I love hearing all the comments and remarks, so please continue! Thanks ! :D
