Chapter 5: Taking it too Far 11-8-16

*Aragorn: 6 years old

Aragorn was now six years old and he had made a couple friends in Rivendell. Along with his two brothers and sister who loved him more of as family.

The day had started out as being fun, but turned out to be a complete disaster. Today Aragon had hung out with a couple of his friends running through meadows and climbing trees. On this specific day, the Elf children that looked to be his age, but were quite older, and had dared him to climb the tallest tree in Rivendell.

All the Elflings could climb effortlessly, even the very small ones, but that was only because they were Elves. All the Elflings thought Aragorn's humanly slowness and unsteadiness was hilarious because it had never come naturally to him.

They often would laugh about it and till the day, Aragorn would laugh about it too. But today was different. The Elflings had completely criticized Aragorn's relationship with his Elf father, Elrond. Today the teasing had been taken too far.

The dare was for Aragorn to climb the tallest tree in Rivendell in which he did. Halfway up the trunk, one of the Elven boys had dropped softly down in front of the child. This startled the boy, making him unbalanced and his grip on the tree trunk let loose. With a small cry, he fell to the ground.

There was a snap sound that came from his arm that had been the first thing that had hit the ground, taking Aragorn's breath away. The Elflings had then leapt off the tree and onto him as they tugged on his rounded ears. They ignore his pleads and tears of stopping as they continued taunting him yet again about how he was different.

As of now, Aragorn was running through the forest. All he wanted to do was leave the Elflings to do as they pleased. The thing that had hurt him most was not his arm, but his broken heart. The shouts of what some of the Elves had said brought tears to Aragorn's eyes as the voices echoed through his mind.

"I understand why you were adopted, without an Elf to take care of you, you would never survive!"

"Why did Lord Elrond even keep you?"

"You're just a human and you will never be an Elf!"

"He can't even climb a tree!"

Aragorn tried to stop thinking about the harsh words that the Elflings had said to him as he had run away in tears. He didn't want to remember what they had said. As he limped deeper into the forest, he became exhausted and tired.

All the trees surrounding him made him feel alone and claustrophobic. Aragorn had ventured into a part of the forest in which he had no memory of. Or maybe he did, but his mind was too fogged up. To make matters worse, the clouds betrayed the child and it started to sprinkle rain.

Tears rolled down his cheeks as he made his way inside of a hollowed-out tree trunk. There was leaves and grass that had grown through the bottom making the inside a lot warmer than the rain outside. Aragorn brought his broken arm close to his chest and tucked his knees in too.

His heart pounded and hurt more than his arm. Aragorn let down his head against his knees and thought about what to do.

They were right. I am only human and that amounts to nothing against an Elf.

Thinking that made him cry even harder.

How could Elrond even love me if I am different than the rest of his kingdom?

Aragorn had tried several times to try and fit in, but the Elflings just never let him in it seemed. As he sat inside the tree he felt like a nobody and he wished that his parents hadn't died and that they were still there to comfort him. They were human and could understand... he missed them.

He thought about Elrond, the Elf who had adopted him two years ago. He then thought about his two brothers Elladan and Elrohir and his sister, Arwen.

Nobody will look for me. Nobody will ever know where I went.

As the thought downed on him, it was quite alarming. If nobody ever found him out in the forest, then he would die of being sick, being lost and not having water or food, or being found by an unfriendly predator. All those things an Elf could prevent, but not Aragorn. He was human.

At the same time, he thought that if nobody ever found him, then he wouldn't be a burden anymore. Elrond wouldn't have to be ashamed or disappointed in having a human child anymore.

He stopped thinking about all the horrible things and let the rain drizzle sound on the treetops lull him to sleep.
