Chapter 59: The Woodland Realm 3-27-17
Aragorn: 17 years old
About an hour past and Aragorn and Legolas had made it to what Aragorn assumed was the Elf kingdom, the Woodland Realm. Legolas had a tight grip on Aragorn's arm as they continued to walk. Aragorn looked up to Legolas and then stopped walking. He saw the bridge that led inside of the kingdom. He didn't want to go inside. He would be trapped.
Legolas stopped in his tracks as well as Aragorn refused to go any further. He said,
"Come on, move,"
"I can't go in there," Aragorn said with a concerned face.
Legolas only glared at the boy and said,
"Where did you come from?"
Aragorn looked at the Elf and said,
"Rivendell,"
"Liar,"
Aragorn's heart sank and it probably showed on his face. He was taken back by the quick response.
"I don't lie," Aragorn said with a sigh.
"You are no Elf,"
"Correct, but I come from Rivendell and I live there," Aragorn explained, "Orcs took Arwen and I was going to go save her. I got lost in this sick forest,"
"Why were you not with anyone then?" Legolas asked.
"Elrond didn't want me to come because he thought it was too dangerous to go to Dol Guldur, but I followed anyway. I found this forest on my own, I did," Aragorn said, "Will you let me go? I have to get back to my friend that you nearly killed!"
"Humans don't live with Elves. You are a liar,"
Aragorn was so outraged that he ripped his hand free from Legolas and ran.
"Hey!" he heard Legolas scream from behind him.
Unfortunately, Aragorn had run the wrong way and was going straight for the kingdom. If he turned around now, he would be caught by Legolas, so he kept going. There were two guards guarding the way into the Woodland Realm.
The guards saw him running towards them and they put their spears into a formation of an x. They didn't want Aragorn to pass by. He took a deep breath and ducked under the spears. The Elves, along with Legolas shouted from behind, but Aragorn kept going.
Every way he looked there were long swirling paths. He gasped and stepped back as he almost fell off the side of one of the bridges. Aragorn felt so scared and trapped just as he predicted he would feel. There were columns and tall, enormous trees everywhere which made Aragorn breath faster out of fear.
"Gotcha!" an Elf from behind Aragorn yelled as he closed his arms around the boy's body.
"Tampa!" (Stop!) Aragorn shouted as he kicked hard.
"A human speaking Elvish!" Aragorn heard one Elf scream in a panic as he let go of him.
He thought quickly as he looked upwards. There were tree branches everywhere. He reached up and grabbed a sturdy looking one. Aragorn gripped the bark and pulled up with all his might, which was draining from him fast.
"Don't let him get away!" one Elf screamed from below.
Aragorn thought it was Legolas, but he never looked down. He kept his eyes up and eventually pulled his whole body up. Kicking his boot into the guards face he was loose from his grasp and he went up. Up and up the tree Aragorn went, not looking down once in fear that an Elf was chasing him up the tree.
All the Elves from below were shouting to one another as Aragorn climbed hoping he wouldn't lose his footing. A voice above all made Aragorn shrink down and hold tighter to the branch he was holding as the voice echoed through the kingdom.
"LEGOLAS GREENLEAF!?" the voice screamed, "IS THIS CHOAS YOUR DOING?!"
Aragorn looked down seeing an Elf with tree branches as a crown. He was wearing a long droopy gown looking thing from Aragorn's point of view. Aragorn saw Legolas bow to the Elf and say,
"I am afraid it is, father. I have caught a human in our woods and he is quite slippery,"
"Where is he?" the Elf king asked.
Legolas looked directly at Aragorn high in the tree and he froze once again. The Elf king looked up and spotted Aragorn right away in the tree about twenty feet high. Aragorn stared down as he was frozen up in the tree. He felt as though he was a squirrel with hungry tigers looking up at him. Although, he kept his thoughts to himself, of course.
"He says he lives in Rivendell, but that is impossible," Legolas voiced to his father who was still looking at Aragorn perched in the tree.
Ignoring his son, the king looked up to Aragorn and said,
"Will you come down to us?" he paused as Aragorn sat there still silent and added, "Please,"
Aragorn shook his head back and forth quickly. The king looked back to Legolas with a sour face and said,
"You made him scared, now he won't come down,"
Legolas crossed his arms, as the king looked back up to Aragorn and said,
"My name is Thranduil. I am the king of the Woodland Realm and I command you to come down this instant,"
Aragorn rested his head on the trunk of the tree and thought the situation over. He was trying to calm down, but his chest was heaving up and down so quickly. Then he leaned over and called down not too loudly and said,
"I will come down, but I don't want anybody touching me,"
"Understood," Thranduil said and put a hand up to the Elves surrounding the base of the tree.
Aragorn made his way down the tall tree cautiously and slowly. He tried keeping his eyes on the Elves below which were staring at him and on where he put his feet. It took him about two minutes to successfully climb down the tree. Once he got to the bottom, he jumped and landed on his shaky legs.
Once he was down, he put his back to the tree and waited for Thranduil to say something.
"Where have you come from?" he asked.
"Rivendell," Aragorn said simply.
Aragorn saw the doubt written on the Kings face as he held in a laugh.
"And what is your name?" Thranduil questioned.
"Estel,"
"Hope," the Elves around him all laughed except for Legolas he noticed.
"Well, he must have high hopes that he where to live with Lord Elrond," Thranduil chuckled.
"I do!" Aragorn said defensively feeling his heart sink again.
"Take him away,"
"What?!" Aragorn shouted, "You said..."
"Silence!" the king said and watched as his Elves went for Aragorn.
Aragorn almost climbed the tree again, but he had no time because the Elf guards were already on him. There were tears in his eyes as they harshly took hold of his arms and put them behind his back.
"Why?!" Aragorn asked through a cry.
Thranduil got close to his face and said,
"Because you are a spy and lied to me,"
"A spy?!" Aragorn said offended, "I don't lie!"
Thranduil walked away proudly. Aragorn stole a look at Legolas and his face was for some reason full of guilt. Aragorn even thought he saw the Elf prince frown as he cried out in protest. Then Aragorn was taken away to a cell deep in the kingdom.
