Chapter 78: Gifts 5-8-17
Aragorn: 19 years old
Two more years past, and it was Aragorn's nineteenth birthday. He was over at Lord Elrond's building with Elladan, Elrohir, and Arwen. It was a happy family get together reunion. All his family had presents for him after they sang songs and had funny conversations. They all had had good family memories that night.
"Can we give Estel the presents now?" Arwen asked eager to hand her present over.
"Yes, but I give my present to him last. Who will go first?" Elrond answered.
"I will," Elrohir said and grabbed a small box from underneath his chair.
The Elf had tried his best to wrap it in a special fabric, but it did look oddly sloppy. Aragorn said nothing, because he thought the offer was kind of his brother. Elrohir handed the gift over to Aragorn and he opened it.
Inside was a hand glove. He pulled it out and smiled as he realized why Elrohir had gotten this for him. It was a cushioned, perfect fitting glove that covered his whole hand, but his fingers. As he put it on, it was very comfortable and his hand fell in love with it as soon as he put it on.
Aragorn knew that when he swordfight with just his bare hands for too long, they could start to blister and sometimes bleed. He thought it was a very clever idea for Elrohir to remember such a small detail about him that could really help while in a battle.
"Thanks, Elrohir! This will totally help a lot in a battle!" Aragorn said appreciably towards his brother.
"Your welcome, bud," Elrohir smiled and looked to Elladan.
"My turn," Elladan said and handed Aragorn a book.
He gladly took it and read the cover out loud,
"'The Adventures of Middle Earth'," Aragorn looked up and smiled at Elladan.
"You can read it and look back on all the history of Middle Earth," explained Elladan, "I thought it was about time you understood the past more. There is a small section in there about the Dunedain too,"
"Thanks, Ell!" Aragorn said and started flipping through the pages.
The book was the normal size for a book and about three or four inches thick. Aragorn had always loved reading and he was excited to read about the world he lived in. He had gained a passion for reading from his father that use to read to him every night before dinner when he was a small child.
Aragorn and the rest of the Elves looked to Arwen and waited for her to give her gift. She smiled and handed Aragorn a wrapped gift. It was beautifully wrapped in golden paper and looked much better than the present Elrohir had attempted on wrapping. He took it and felt that it was cushy as if it was cloth.
"Open it," Arwen said in anticipation as she smiled eagerly.
Elrond gave a warning look at Arwen as he had just realized that he had not known what Arwen had gotten Aragorn. He was nervous it was something serious that he wouldn't allow. A strange feeling set through his veins as he watched his young human rip into the paper gently. Arwen was smiling brightly on the edge of her seat.
As Aragorn let the last of the paper slid to the ground, he held up the gift and saw that it was a lovely shirt. It was a beautiful dark blue color, Aragorn's favorite color. The shirt was a strange, yet had a unique fabric and Aragorn knew now as he felt it that Arwen had sewed it for him. As he smiled, he turned it around and saw the image of a white, leafless tree on the front.
He took a deep, gaspey breath and his heart fluttered as he stared at the image on the cover of the shirt. Something racked in his brain that he knew where he had seen that same image once before in his life. Remembering old memories from the past and froze.
"Estel?" someone whispered jolting Aragorn back to the present time.
Aragorn blinked and looked at the cloth again. As he unfolded it more, he realized it wasn't just any shirt, but a long tunic. It must have taken Arwen a long time to make. Elrond hadn't seen the symbol embedded on it yet, but as Aragorn turned it to face him, the king almost screamed.
"Arwen!" Elrond scolded.
Elrond stood and took the tunic from Aragorn fast. He shook his head and folded the cloth into a tight ball. Everybody noticed that he had covered the tree on the front for some reason. Aragorn would have reacted to the clothes being ripped from his hands, but he didn't as he again went into the same trance as before.
Where was that tree from? Where have I seen it before?
Aragorn looked as if he were paralyzed as the other four family members argued. Aragorn heard none of it as he was frozen staring into space punishing his brain for not remembering history.
"Arwen! How could you bring this upon him?" Elrond shouted harshly.
"Father, I didn't know!" Arwen defended.
"You did! It has remained a secret for nineteen years!" Elrond argued.
"Father, he has to know at some point," Elladan said trying to defend his younger sister in some way.
"Not know, Elladan!" Elrond said annoyed and turned back to his daughter, "What was the meaning of this?"
"I want to marry him," Arwen whispered making sure Aragorn could not hear her.
"WHAT!" Elrond, Elladan, and Elrohir screamed. Elladan and Elrohir had now turned on her.
"That is my wish. I have my dress picked out and this is what he will wear," Arwen explained for the first time, "I love him, father. I truly love him,"
"She is going crazy," Elladan spewed out.
"You are insane!" Elrohir added.
"Boys!" Elrond pushed the twins back, "Take Estel out of the room please,"
All looked to Aragorn and saw him dazed in his chair. The book Elladan had given him was on the table next to him, along with the glove. Elladan and Elrohir paused, wanting to stay in the room where the drama was, but obeyed their father and took Aragorn by his arms and pulled him up. They led him out of the room as he continued to stay frozen.
A/N: Arwen finally spilt the beans! :D
