Chapter 82: Learning More 3-4-17

Aragorn: 19 years old

Aragorn went away from the tree wondering about what he had just heard.

Gondor's king?

He decided to visit his brothers and ask them what was going on and if they knew anybody by the name of Gandalf. Aragorn walked to their brother's station and found them instantly guarding the front gates of Rivendell.

"Now where are you off too?" Elladan asked seeing Aragorn step out of Rivendell and walk up to him.

"Nowhere. I have come to ask you two questions," Aragorn explained.

"Oh no, about what this time?" Elrohir asked.

"Did you get in trouble again?" Elladan laughed.

"It looks like you have by the look of your face," Elrohir said.

"Mentally and physically," Elladan added.

Aragorn had forgotten how horrid his face looked and was getting more annoyed every second that passed.

"Can you just listen to me please?" Aragorn said trying to stay calm.

Elladan and Elrohir exchanged a cautious look and before they could say anything, Aragorn spoke again,

"Do you know a man named Gandalf?" Aragorn asked.

Their faces immediately changed from silliness to concern as Elladan asked,

"Why would you say that?"

"Because he's here," Aragorn simply stated.

"Gandalf the Grey?" Elrohir asked.

Aragorn nodded.

"What does he want?"

"I don't know, he is a wizard... right?" Aragorn asked since he still hadn't gotten an answer on that.

Elladan nodded,

"One of the strongest ones too,"

"Is he good?"

"He is very wise," Elrohir said instead of answering the question fully, "Father and he have always been close. Probably for good reasons,"

"Guys..." Aragorn started, but stopped short and looked to the floor.

"Yes?"

"Is there... something you or father should tell me?" Aragorn asked thinking back to what Elrond and Gandalf had been talking about.

"What do you mean?" Elladan asked his face getting more unsure.

"Well, never mind. Just forget it. It's nothing," Aragorn stood and walked off again.

"Be careful," Elrohir said without looking to Aragorn.

Both twins were looking straight ahead again to hide the redness that had come to their faces. They knew what Aragorn had been hinting at and they wouldn't tell him anything... yet.

Aragorn left the scene and went to go sit in his tree that dangled over the waterfall. He wanted to be alone for a while.

-----

The next day, the wizard Gandalf was leaving.

"So soon?" Aragorn asked as he looked up to Elrond.

"His business is done here," Elrond replied.

"Our paths will cross again, don't worry," Gandalf said as he looked down to Aragorn from his horse.

Aragorn just fake smiled and nodded. Elrond waved and Gandalf was off.

"What did he want?" Aragorn asked.

Elrond turned around not saying anything.

"Are you going to tell me?" Aragorn pushed and ran to his side.

Elrond stopped and Aragorn ran into his back. He tumbled back and then looked up to Elrond.

"Please, tell me. I'm not a child anymore,"

Elrond looked down to Aragorn, his eyes gentle.

"I remember the day Elladan and Elrohir brought you to Rivendell with your mum," Elrond said calmly, "I tried protecting your mother, and I failed. I won't fail you too, Estel. My young, brave Estel is growing up. I will tell you everything when the time is right,"

Elrond patted Aragorn on the shoulder and walked off again. Aragorn stayed standing where he was. He looked around at Rivendell, his home. Aragorn was beginning to figure out why Elrond and the twins had always been nervous about telling him certain things, such as who he acually was. Aragorn could tell they were all scared of telling him the truth.

But what was the truth?
