Chapter 86: Memory 5-26-17
Aragorn: 5 years old
Aragorn ran through Rivendell looking for his older twin brothers, Elladan and Elrohir. It was their birthdays today and he had woken up extra early to wish them both a happy birthday.
Aragorn was still very new to Rivendell and was trying to gain friendship with everyone. As he ran, it began to rain. It was so far, a light drizzle, nothing to worry about. The child turned a corner and saw his older brothers. Their backs were to him, so he called out their names,
"Elladan! Elrohir!"
They both turned and saw Aragorn running up to them. They both smiled and Elrohir stretched his arms out wide. Once Aragorn was to them, he jumped and Elrohir caught him saying,
"Hey, little guy!"
Elrohir spun him around in a circle before setting him on the ground again. Then Aragorn went for Elladan and wrapped his small body around the Elves leg. He giggled as Elladan tried shooing him off. There was no use in that, so he stopped trying.
"Happy birthday!" Aragorn called out from on Elladan's leg.
"Thank you, Estel," the twins said at once.
"How old are you turning again?" Aragorn asked.
Elrohir crouched down next to Aragorn and said,
"Well, guess what? We are old! Very old!"
"Older than me?!" Aragorn said his eyes widening.
Both Elves laughed and said,
"Yes, much, much older. We are over one thousand years old!"
"One thousand!? That is a big number! I bet I can't even count that high!" Aragorn exclaimed happily and accidently let go off Elladan's leg.
Aragorn fell backwards, but Elladan quickly reached down and grabbed his arm before he could. The small child laughed as Elladan brought him up to his shoulders and set him on top of him. Elrohir smiled and the three went to the Hall to meet Lord Elrond there
"Are we seeing daddy?" Aragorn asked.
"Yes, he will be there," Elrohir replied.
"Uh, oh," Aragorn murmured.
"Is something wrong?"
Aragorn shrugged and said,
"I have a scratch on my arm and if he sees it, he will freak!"
Both twins laughed knowing that would be very true. Elrond always went crazy when somebody, especially the human of the house got injured.
"It is a secret that you cannot tell," Aragorn explained with all seriousness, which made the twins laugh even harder.
"Okay, we won't tell," Elladan said.
As soon as they got to the Hall, Elrond burst out and grabbed Aragorn from on top of Elladan's shoulders and said,
"I didn't see you last night, where were you?" he looked worried.
"Doing something under my bed,"
Everybody laughed.
"What were you doing under there?" Elladan snickered.
"I was making a present for you two so nobody would see," Aragorn explained pointing at his brothers.
"Well, we will keep that a secret from the twins until tonight when they can see the present you made," Elrond said and walked into the Hall.
Aragorn looked at his brothers at the word "secret" and whispered,
"Remember to keep our secret,"
Elladan and Elrohir put a silent finger to their mouths and smiled. Elrond thought Aragorn was talking to him and said,
"Yes, we will keep it a secret,"
Aragorn looked at his father confused as he set him to the ground, and the twins laughed knowing that Elrond had no idea what had just happened. Aragorn ran to the breakfast table and tried getting aboard his chair.
Elladan saw his struggle and helped him up. Aragorn sat on his knees with his legs underneath him on the chair. He was so short to sit normally and still reach the table.
The other three Elves sat down and started eating their small breakfast. The Elves had purposely not eaten in a while so that their family could eat together that day.
Elladan sat next to Aragorn and Elrohir sat across from Elladan. Elrond was at the head of the table and now he was just waiting for his daughter. Arwen came running in a moment later and took her normal seat across from Aragorn and in-between Elrohir and Elrond.
"Sorry I am late," she said as she looked at her father.
"Don't tell me that, tell your brothers," Elrond said as he put a napkin to his mouth.
Arwen turned to Elladan and Elrohir and said her apologies. They were of course fine with it. Arwen looked across from her and saw Aragorn for the first time that day. She smiled shyly and when Aragorn looked up, he had a lopsided grin. Then he shoveled food in his mouth and looked away.
The rest of the day went well, and Aragorn had given Elladan and Elrohir their presents. They now understood why Aragorn had gotten a scratch as well. He had made each of the twins a sword made of sticks, twigs, and small pieces of wood.
The twins had laughed and fought each other with the fragile weapons as Aragorn watched smiling. Every now and then he would go hang onto Elladan or Elrohir's legs and watch the battle from below everyone.
Arwen and Elrond watched as well and laughed. Elrond had still not found out about the scratch either, which made everybody relax a little too. It had been a good birthday. Even if the twins were turning over a thousand years old.
