Chapter 94: The Leave Taking 6-11-17

Aragorn: 20 years old

The whole of Rivendell knew Aragorn had to leave and it was for good reasons. Everybody was quiet as Elrond began to go over all that he and the twins had taught Aragorn over the many years. Elrond was going over everything that would make the man successful in the wild. Aragorn already knew it all, but listened anyway.

"Father, I will be fine," Aragorn whispered, "You know I will be,"

Tears came to Elrond's eyes as he said,

"I know, I know my child," he stroked the side of his face.

Aragorn closed his eyes to keep his own tears back. Across his back, Aragorn held a full backpack of all the provisions Elrond and the other Elves had made up for him. He also proudly carried his sword, a bow, and a couple knives hidden in different places on his body.

Aragorn didn't even know what to do, his mind was a blur as he started saying goodbye to all his friends and family. He started with Kenath. His shyest friend who had always looked up to Aragorn so much over the many years.

"I will miss you greatly, Mellonin," Kenath whispered.

Aragorn leaned in and gave him a hug. He whispered in his ear,

"Thank you for everything you have given me over the years. The greatest gift I received from you was our friendship,"

Kenath started to cry happy tears as Aragorn pushed himself away gently. He rubbed the tears off his Elf friends face and walked to the next Elf. It was Lyki.

"Time has really flown, hasn't it?" Lyki said softly.

"Indeed, it has, Mellonin," Aragorn said quietly and leaned in for a hug.

"I will miss sword fighting with you. You are really good and it was a thrill to go against such a strong heart in the Trials," Lyki smiled.

Aragorn returned the gentle smile and said,

"Thank you, Lyki. It was a delight knowing you,"

With a small encouraging squeeze on Lyki's shoulder he then moved on to Lagorion. His best friend that had took him in when he was very young. The Elf who had stood up to Greakth many times for him as a child and who had taught him how to fight in a battle.

"Where do I even begin?" Lagorion asked gently as a tear rolled down his cheek.

Aragorn was silent for a moment before saying,

"Don't weep because it's over. It isn't yet, I will be back before you know it. Smile because it happened, my sweet friend,"

Lagorion smiled brightly, as he wiped a tear from his cheek.

"I remember the days when we had the wind through our hair and the sun in our eyes," Lagorion started, "We cherished the moments as the world's greatest prize. Now that you are going away, I will truly remember all our beautiful memories that bound us together... forever. Goodbye,"

Aragorn burst through Lagorion giving him the biggest, warmest hug ever. Lagorion backed up and hugged Aragorn as tight as he could. They held it for a long while as their tears flowed. Eventually they pushed off each other with wet faces and Aragorn was able to whisper,

"Don't say goodbye, Lag. For this is not forever that I will be leaving. I will come back,"

All Lagorion could do was nod, or else he may start sobbing if he spoke. It was hard to do, but Aragorn pulled his heavy feet away from his best friend and moved to his brothers. Elladan and Elrohir already had tears in their eyes as they peered down at their little brother.

"How are we supposed to say goodbye to somebody we can't live without?" Elladan asked with a sniff.

"How are we supposed to go through life not wrestling or pulling tricks on our younger human brother?" Elrohir added trying to find the humor in the sad moment.

It made Aragorn smile, which made the twins smile back.

"I will always be close, because you can always find me in here," Aragorn lifted both of his hands and places them each on the twin's chests. Right over where their hearts were, "All the memories, all the pain, and all the love has always been held in here. In my heart and in yours," Aragorn looked back and forth between his brother's wet eyes.

When he was finished, he sniffed a cry and the twins took him in for a hug under their strong arms. Aragorn began to cry hard as the three held their group hug.

"You will have to watch Tarish for me when I am gone. Take him out for rides and tell him that I love him," Aragorn whispered to the twins.

Aragorn had said goodbye to his horse that morning, but the loyal horse didn't seem to understand what was going on at that time.

Elrond watched all three of his sons with blurry eyes trying to compose himself. He watched Arwen who was standing next in the line to say farewell to Aragorn. She looked as if she might burst in tears at any given moment.

"Estel, we will always love you," Elladan said.

"Where ever you go," Elrohir added.

"Just know that you must come back and visit us. We will get lonely without somebody to torment," Elladan ruffled Aragorn's hair playfully with a chuckle.

Aragorn returned a weak laugh and said,

"I might get lonely without somebody to beat in games or sword fighting,"

"We will be training extra hard when you are gone, so that when you return there will be a new champion," Elrohir said and pumped his arms up in victory.

The brothers all laughed and hugged again for the last time. Then Aragorn moved on to Arwen with a heavy heart. As soon as they made eye contact, Arwen burst out in sobs and fell into Aragorn's body. Aragorn let her and wrapped his arms around her thin body. He loved the feeling of holding her.

After Aragorn heard Arwen's sniffling decease and felt her heart beat drum slowly, he let her go. He said,

"You have a brave heart. You have a courageous mind. And you are a beautiful young Elf," Aragorn paused rethinking what he was about to tell Arwen.

He had had this same scene reenacted in his mind a thousand times and now it was finally taking place. It was going to take every ounce of courage inside of his heart to say what he felt. He continued,

"Arwen, what I am trying to say is... my heart is the way it is because I have you inside of it. Every moment I have spent with you over the years, every single second, your love has touched my heart. The night you took me out to see the beautifully bright moon, I knew I wanted you. I felt such peace, such calmness, such love... I love you Arwen. I love you in a way that is truly different than just being family members, but something else..."

All the gathered Elves had been silent for Aragorn's small speech to Arwen. Now everyone erupted in shouts of happiness and claps from all around. Elrond looked at Aragorn and Arwen stunned and the twins looked at them joyfully. They couldn't believe their shy brother had had the guts to say what he had said.

Arwen was frozen as tears streamed her face like a waterfall. She leaped into Aragorn's strong arms and he twirled her around in a full circle before setting her down again.

"I love you, Estel! I love you so much!" Arwen cried, "I never knew how to say it, but this seems like the right time. I truly believe that you are one of the greatest things that sparks my heart every day. I love you so much, Estel,"

Nobody was expecting what was about to happen, but Aragorn and Arwen leaned towards each other and kissed. Everybody cheered happily as if they were getting married, but that could never happen. Aragorn rested his forehead to Arwen's and whispered,

"I will come back, please don't worry about me. I will miss you Arwen,"

"I will miss you too, my young, brave Estel,"

"I love you," They both said.

Then they kissed again, cherishing the short amount of time they had left together.

A/N: Yay! Was everyone waiting for the kiss!? :D Well, it finally happened, lol. 2 more chapters left!
