Chapter 3 - I got it from my Mother
"Wait, wait, let me get this straight," Jordan began. "You're our daughters, who travelled, what 25 years or so from the future to come to see us, your dads as teens?."
"Yeah, pretty much."
"This is so cool!" Jordan exclaimed, face lighting up.
"You mean to tell me we still know him in the future?" Declan asked, pointing to Jordan.
"Yeah, pretty much."
Declan just sighed, whilst Jordan looked at him offended.
Bennett stood there and blinked. It was rare ever to see the guy dumbfounded, but then again, what would you do in this situation?
"How did you get here? How is this possible? What are we like in the future?" Jordan started rambling.
Estelle looked wary. "Time travel, as you all should know, is a messy and delicate thing. We don't fully understand it ourselves."
"Usually, there's a reason for a time portal to open up." Gabrielle continued.
"Yeah, you go back to the past or forward to the future and figure out why you're there. Once you figure out the reason you're there and correct whatever needs to be corrected, another portal opens up to take you back to your original timeline," Kendall explained.
Once the boys processed what they said, a flood of questions broke out of them.
"What do we end up doing for a job?" Bennett asked.
"Who do we end up with as partners?" Declan questioned.
"Who dies in Avengers Endgame?!" Jordan wailed.
"However," Estelle began sternly. "We cannot be messing with time, like reveal any important details that could alter your timelines drastically. So no asking about what you'll do for a living, who your partners are, or even who dies in Avengers Endgame."
The boys quietened down, still wanting to hear what the girls are willing to let out about the future. But so many questions raced through their heads, they didn't know where to begin.
Declan's mind raced with endless questions, yet he felt only one needed an answer right now.
"What do you mean by soured relations?" Declan asked slowly. "Are we not good fathers?" Concerned laced his eyes as he thought of the possibility. The girls looked at him with mixed expressions of furrowed eyebrows and sad smiles.
"Of course you are. You all are," Gabrielle answered him holding a soft but pained expression.
"We should find a place to sit down," Estelle stated. "So we can talk in peace."
"We were on our way to the car, but let's go back to the cafe," Bennett suggested looking around, not liking the fact they were standing out in the darkness.
"Yeah, let's! I want another milkshake," Jordan exclaimed, already salivating at the idea. The six of them started walking back towards the cafe.
Declan fell in pace with Gabrielle, he noted her red hair and grey eyes, which she certainly didn't get from him, so maybe she got them for her mother. Or perhaps Declan adopted Gabrielle, but then upon second glance, he realised Gabrielle's glare matched his own when he saw her staring down Kendall for kicking a rock at her shoe.
She certainly got his temper and his lack of patience for Wallaces. He saw that she dressed similarly to him, keeping it casual with a cropped black hoodie and matching sweatpants and sneakers.
Her red hair tied up in a high pony, she wore light makeup, but her eyes stood out against the black eyeshadow she'd blended out. She wore a black choker with a rose gold pendant of what looks like a rose. Gabrielle looked up and gave Declan a slight smile after shouting out at Kendall.
"What?" she asked.
Declan shook his head. "Nothing, it's just you're very pretty," he said softly, looking at her in awe.
Gabrielle gave him a wry smile. "Thanks, I got it from my mother',"
"Hey!"
They both laughed.
Gabrielle studied him for a minute. Walking beside him, she took in his youthful appearance. He certainly looked more intimidating without the beard, yet barely a man.
She noted his short brown hair, which he kept the same and the same comforting warm brown eyes she'd known her whole life. He wore a dark grey sweater with light grey pants and white sneakers. He looked deep in thought as his eyebrows were furrowed like he was frustrated at something, but she didn't know what.
She looked up again to meet his eyes and smiled, hoping it would comfort him.
Bennett walked ahead of the group looking back once to check everyone was there; he noticed how Gabrielle and Kendall walked alongside their fathers, and in that, he could see the striking similarities.
His own daughter walked right at the back, noticeably away from him. He gave her way from a couple of looks, he gave her way, Bennett concluded her eyes were a forest green colour, her hair was black cut to shoulder length and wavy. She had on black eyeliner, which enhanced her eyes cold stare. A stare that mirrored his own.
Bennett felt a chill down his spine. He could already see the traits she had inherited from him. From the unnerving stare that went through you to the unwillingness to being part of the group, always alone. Fraziers were, after all, lone wolves.
She wore a tan leather jacket, the only colour other than the all-black ensemble of jeans, shirt and boots. A silver cross pendant hung on her collarbone, matching a silver arrow going through the helix of her right ear. She turned to look at him as he looked away.
Estelle watched her father lead the group back to the cafe. Always the leader, she noted. Always alone, always wanting to be alone, as she remembered. The ever-present poker face she'd grown up with seemed different here.
She realised it was his long hair that covered his eyes. He'd cut it sometime in the future, she figured. He wore black slacks with a white shirt and a navy sweater, pairing it off with white air forces and an assortment of rings. She knew where she got her liking of jewellery from.
She continued to observe from the back of the group. That's another thing she inherited from him, always watching, always waiting.
Jordan bounced alongside Kendall, noting how she seemed to have just as much energy as he did. He tried to memorise the quirk on her lips turning skyward just before the smirk that inevitably follows. The way her hands moved animatedly as she recounted a story she was telling him.
He saw the stars in her eyes as she talked about her last prank on Gabrielle. He only wished he knew what colour they were. He listened to the pleasant way she laughed, full and hearty and genuine. And when she smiled, not smirked but smiled, he could almost instantly recognise his very smile on her.
He noted that she wore some sort of denim overalls with a white shirt under and white sneakers. She styled her hair into two plaits that ended as ponytails. She also had a Fleur de Lis pendant around her neck, which she said was gold after seeing his questioning eyes. He later found out she did indeed have his dirty blonde hair and warm brown eyes, which he assumed was from her mother.
Kendall observed her father, a slight pain in her heart knowing he was questioning what colour her eyes and hair were or what colour her outfit was. She insisted on telling him. She noticed how he was slightly skinnier as a teenager and obviously with fewer tattoos.
She saw his bright smile that many have told her she had inherited. She noticed the skip in his step, giving away how excited he was. He wore a white t-shirt, dark grey jeans with a blue flannel shirt and Adidas sneakers. She looked up at him an idea formed in her head.
"Wow, dad, you look very different here," she said loudly enough to catch everyone else's attention.
Jordan looked up again, puzzled, questioning her. "How come?"
"It's just weird to see you with... hair," she looked up at his blonde mop and touched a few strands.
All the colour from Jordan's face drained as he let out a high pitched shriek.
The others were no help by bursting into laughter and hearty chuckles. Jordan didn't know what to make of the new information, looking to the other two for confirmation. He was panicking and on the verge of tears at the idea of losing his hair whilst everyone cried themselves from laughing at the image of a bald Jordan.
Kendall eventually got herself together to tell him it was a joke.
"What!" Jordan demanded. "That's it! You're grounded, young lady!"
Kendall gasped at that.
