'Remember the multiple functions your title will serve.'

Your title shouldn't just tell. It should express. It should have different meanings to the reader and to the writer as well. It should perform different functions.

A title should make the reader think about the various aspects the title was used for. It should make the reader satisfied after reading the book. This satisfaction will only arise if the title performs different functions.

Let's take the same example I had told you about. In 'Divergent' you actually learn about the different functions the title plays. Here, Divergent conveys something that is different. Something that is diverse and new to a person who has just read the title.

If you've read the story (if not, please stop reading here, cause this is major SPOILER ALERT!) then I'm sure you'll know exactly why there used this title. Why? Because Tris ( the main charector) is a divergent. She's one of the very few who is different from the rest. But this is not the only reason, if you analyze further then you'll find so many instances where this title fits correctly, like the part where Tris has to choose between all the different factions, the part where you get to know about all the different kinds of people in that small world enclosed by huge walls, the part where the author conveys the dangers and challenges of being a Divergent. At the end, comes the consequences of being a Divergent. So, after reading this book you will not be able to forget the title. Why? Because it's embedded in every part of the story which you've loved reading.

Now do you see how many functions this one title plays and how important this is?
