Chapter 2: 20 Days Out
"Okay, this is still totally manageable... right?"
Twenty days! That's like... counts on fingers while trying to look professional ...almost three whole weeks! You've absolutely got this, writers.
Here's your new mantra: Pick a lane and own it completely. Writing romance? Lean into those tropes that make readers squeal and kick their feet. Enemies to lovers? Chef's kiss. Fake dating? Double yes. The bad boy with a secret soft spot who rescues kittens in his spare time? Triple yes with extra emotional damage.
The magic of Wattpad is that readers come here for FEELINGS. They want the butterflies, the angst, the moments that make them share your story to their group chat with a bunch of crying emojis. Don't try to reinvent the wheel—just make your wheel the shiniest, most emotionally devastating, most addictive wheel that's ever existed.
Your daily goals should include writing 2,000-3,000 words (but if you write 500, you still wrote today!), showing love to at least 5 other stories in your genre, posting consistently every 2-3 days, and actually nourishing your human body (yes, this needed to be on here because we forget). Structure sets you free.
Here's where you get to be both creator and critic! Set aside time every few days for what We call "fresh eyes editing." Read your latest chapters out loud—seriously, DO THIS. Your mouth will catch awkward sentences your brain missed, and you'll hear the rhythm of your dialogue like never before.
Focus on the big picture stuff: Does each scene move your plot forward or deepen character development? If a scene does neither, it's probably gorgeous but needs to find a new home (save those deleted darlings in a separate document—they might be perfect for another story). Read each chapter aloud before posting, check that every scene serves the story, make sure your dialogue sounds like real humans talking, cut any paragraphs that make you think "this is pretty but what's it doing here?" and trust your gut—if something feels off, it probably is.
