The Frog Prince (Oneshot version)
Once upon a time, in a world where magic had long slipped between the cracks of reason, there lived a boy named Felix. He was a quiet soul with ink-stained fingers and soft dreams, a highschool student who believed more in logic than fairy tales. He spent his days wandering between books and lonely sidewalks. An ordinary young boy, a normal side character.
One ordinary afternoon, in the sterile white light of a university biology lab, Felix found something that would change his life.
A frog.
But not just any frog. This one looked... aware. Its golden eyes seemed too expressive, its silence too intentional. There was something haunting in the way it stared at him, like it had been waiting for someone to notice.
What Felix didn't know was that the frog had a name. Once, he had been Hyunjin. Just a boy, twenty-one, tired from a morning of lectures, taking a nap beneath a tree when everything changed. When he awoke, his limbs were foreign, his body suddenly became small and strange. The world had grown large and unfamiliar, and no one could understand him.
Except he could still speak.
It startled people, of course. A talking frog with human sadness in his voice. Some ran. Some tried to capture him. But no one listened.
So he ran. Through alleyways and parks, across cold pavement and damp sewer grates, dodging curious eyes and cruel hands, until he ended up in the one place he hadn't meant to be. A bio lab. In a plastic container. And there, with the quietest gasp, Felix picked him up.
He didn't run. He didn't scream. He just stared.
And when he croaked out a hoarse "Please," everything shifted.
Felix took him home.
At first, Felix thought he must be dreaming, or hallucinating from too many all-nighters. But the frog spoke clearly. He had thoughts. Feelings. Stories. And as absurd as it all sounded, Felix couldn't turn away. He listened.
They lived like that for days, two strangers drawn together by something invisible. Felix placed a tiny bowl of water on his nightstand. He read aloud when Hyunjin couldn't sleep. And Hyunjin, from his perch on the windowsill, whispered thoughts about the stars, about the strangeness of the world when seen from the ground.
They began to laugh together. Eat meals together. Watch old movies together. It became easy, almost natural, this companionship between a boy and a frog. And slowly, gently, something else began to grow. Not magic. Not wonder.
Love.
Not the kind that comes crashing in, but the kind that glows warm in the dark, like a candle burning quietly behind the ribs. Felix began to look at Hyunjin with softer eyes. And Hyunjin, despite his strange form, found himself smiling more often than he had in months.
He didn't tell Felix how much it hurt sometimes, how lonely it was to be trapped in a body not his own. He didn't say how scared he was that the spell might never break. But he didn't need to. Felix saw it, even when nothing was said. And he stayed.
One night, under a sky rinsed with moonlight, they sat on the rooftop. The city was hushed below them, blinking lights reflecting in their eyes. Felix held Hyunjin gently in his hands, as he often did when the world felt too heavy.
There was no need for questions. The feeling hung between them like mist. Hyunjin looked at him, his voice quiet and fragile, and confessed what he had carried in his chest all this time.
Felix didn't answer with words.
He leaned in, as if guided by something older than thought, and pressed a kiss to Hyunjin's cool, damp forehead.
And then it happened.
The air around them shimmered. Light erupted like a pulse from a hidden sun. Felix stumbled back, heart pounding, as the frog began to shift. His form stretched and blurred, green skin giving way to pale, trembling limbs. Fingers. Toes. A body. A boy.
When the glow faded, Hyunjin knelt on the rooftop tiles, breathless and whole.
He looked just as Felix had imagined, with eyes full of unshed tears, hair tousled by the wind, and lips parted in disbelief. For a moment, neither moved.
But in just a few seconds, Hyunjin leaned forwards. He threw his arms around Felix and held him as though the world might disappear again.
The wind whispered through the night, carrying away the last trace of the spell, leaving only love behind.
"Welcome back, my Frog Prince!"
