PERSONALITY
Though he can be incredibly sarcastic at times, Jojo is, at his core, a sweet person who cares a lot about others. Curious and energetic, their ADHD diagnosis certainly makes a lot of sense, especially when combined with how they tend to lock themselves into the studio for days at a time when they get sucked into a project. He's creative and loving, and tends to give people songs as gifts. I'm not kidding.

BACKGROUND

Johan was born in Sweden to Korean parents who'd immigrated to the country as young adults. He's the youngest of three, with an older sister and an older brother. All three Kim children were given Swedish names, so as not to stand out too much in the country, though being Korean certainly did plenty to make them stand out already. As the baby of the family, Jojo was doted on—even his nickname is an example of this. At school, Jojo did all right—he wasn't really the academic type, being too energetic to do well sitting in a classroom unless he was really focused on the topic. As a result, Jojo was diagnosed with ADHD when they were eight. He started playing soccer (or football, if you're not American) the same year.
As a teenager, not much changed for Jojo. They started to explore gender and sexuality, as many teens do. Which ended up being the biggest change, actually. See, Jojo is trans—he was raised as a girl, though by the time he was fifteen he knew he wasn't a girl. He started to transition about a year later, legally changing his Swedish name to one that fit him better and getting top surgery.
When Johan was seventeen, he moved back to Korea with his older sister, Sabina, and their mother in order to help take care of the siblings' ailing grandparents. Well, that's why his mom and sister went. Jojo mostly went to really see the country their family was from—they'd never really been to Korea outside of a few short visits—and to get away from their father and older brother, who weren't the best about the gender thing. He finished school online, helped with his grandparents where he could, got better at speaking Korean, and made friends in the neighborhood.
He auditioned for HQ because he was bored. The company had just opened, and Jojo had decided not to attend university. One of their friends was auditioning and suggested Jojo tag along—and with nothing else to do, he did. To Jojo's surprise, they passed the audition and were accepted as a trainee. His mother didn't want him to do it—she is, actually, pretty against Johan becoming a trainee, and feels that his long training period is proof that she's right. Jojo, though, isn't deterred. They knew when they became a trainee that they had a lot of work to do to get up to standard. Now, though, Johan feels confident in his abilities and ready to debut. Hopefully, the company agrees with them.

it would take way too long to give the full story—but jojo and perrie didn't mean to fall in love. they didn't mean to be more than friends, really, and all of this has just made their lives so much more complicated. all jojo knows is that he loves perrie, even if he can't really date him, and that's that.

- Many people in Korea mispronounce Johan with a hard j sound, as the yoo-sound isn't commonly attached to the letter j in Korean.
- He often uses Swedish working titles for his songs, as he doesn't have many other opportunities to use the language.
- Jojo writes and produces on their own, after having watched the company producers do it for so long.
