Not A Damsel Again

Adele and Bree looked at Jimin as she wouldn't eat her lunch. Adele narrowed her eyes at the girl and threw a french fry from her plate at her head. The action didn't affect her at all as Jimin sat in her same place, staring off into space. Adele finally slammed her hands at the table, making Bree jump in her seat.

"Hey! What's wrong with you? You've been acting like this for two days straight, what the hell happened?" Bree scratches her cheek and looks to Jimin.

"If there's something wrong, you could always tell us Jimin."

Jimin lets out a small smile and reluctantly takes a bit from her food.

"I'm okay, see, I'm eating."

Jimin's arm then had a sudden twitch and flung from her side. Adele raises an eyebrow at her friend's sudden arm twitch.

"What are you doing?"

"Oh, it's nothing!"

But it wasn't. Adele couldn't see it but Bree and Jimin could. All around Jimin there were ghosts pulling on her hair and arms, asking for the girl to help them with their problems. Jimin lets out a sigh and stands up from the table, also picking up her plate and backpack.

"Hey, I forgot to turn in something for English so I'm leaving."

Bree and Adele then watch as she walks out of the cafeteria. Adele lets out a growl before biting on one of her french fries.

"Something's up with her, I just don't get why she wont tell us."

Bree sticks out her lips in thought.

"Hm, it's probably because of all the ghosts that have been following her around."

" . . . What?"

Adele stares at the brunette with eyes widened and mouth dropped. Bree continues, totally unaware of the stares Adele is giving her.

"Yeah, it's weird. After the Demon, Daemon, suddenly left her all the ghosts have been swarming all around her." Bree frowns and looks up. "Maybe it's because of Daemon that she's been so down."

Adele continues to stare at her with mouth slightly dropped. She then raises a hand up to the girl after snapping out of her trance.

"W-Wait! Ghosts? Demons? What are you talking about Bree? Have you've been taking your medication?"

Bree's eyes widened in realization, she forgot that Adele doesn't know anything.

"Oh! I forgot to tell you, see the reason why I was so down after Jay's death was because his ghost was actually haunting me. That's why you and Jimin cried so much when you came to visit me! But it's alright because with Jimin's help I was able to get Jay to move on to the afterlife." She then turns to Adele with a bright smile. "And the reason why Jimin hasn't been acting so weird before is because she was able to convince this guy name Daemon to scare off the ghosts that's been bothering her. The cool thing about Daemon is that he's a demon! But, he doesn't look like one expect for his black hands! . . . Why are you looking at me like that."

Adele now had her mouth shut but she was shifting her eyes up and down Bree. The blond then picked up her phone and started to dial a number.

"I think we should call your mom."

"N-No! Adele, I swear this is all real!" Adele slammed the phone back on the lunch table and pointed towards the girl.

"Real? You're talking about ghosts and demons, Bree! How am I supposed to believe you!"

She reluctantly looked down and started to play with her fingers.

"I know it doesn't sound real, but it is. I remember when I first saw Jay's ghosts, I didn't believe it and thought it was in my head." She lets out a small smile. "I didn't even believe it right when it was in front of me." Bree then looked back up to Adele with a serious face. "But, I swear it is all real! You just got to believe me!"

Adele looks at her one more time up and down before pinching the bridge of her nose. Now that she thinks about it, Jimin being haunted by ghosts is plausible. She would always randomly trip or start to fight with the air. So, all of that being the cause of ghosts explains it. Also, Bree wouldn't give Jimin the same weird looks as she usually would like Adele, instead Bree would just give Jimin looks of worry. The blond finally raised her head to look at her friend, still having shifty eyes.

"Alright, I sort of believe it." Bree's eyes brightened at her, but Adele immediately raised a hand. "Sort of, for right now this is the only explanation we have for Jimin acting weird."

She then let out a squeal and gave Adele a hug.

"I'm so glad! Lets go find her then!"

oO0OoO0Oo

Jimin was sitting at her desk, waiting for the next period to start. She let out a sigh and relaxed her head on the table. She has to stop acting so depressed, he's gone now. She did everything she could to get him better.

"President! Did you look over the forms for the senior field trip?"

"Yes, of course. I'll hand them over tomorrow."

Jimin raises her head to look outside the window that showed the school halls. Outside there was Kale conversing with two other students with a bright smile. So, fake. Jimin hated it that no one knew his true nature, or what he actually was.

Kale then blinks as he feels someone's stare at him, the half-demon turns to look into the classroom and sees Jimin's stare on him. He sneers before walking down the hall with the two students hot on his trail.

She really wanted to forget, but it's hard when she sees that guy's face everyday.

"Jimin!"

Jimin jumps at the sudden call of her name and looks up to the door again to see Bree and Adele waiting at the entrance. Bree then jumps over to Jimin and claps her hands together in front of her.

"Guess what? Adele believes in the ghosts too!"

Jimin's eyes widen as she looks at the blond. Adele had her head turned to the side with a slight blush.

"S-Sort of, it's still a bit sketchy." Jimin smiles at her friend and rests her head back down on the table.

"Well that's good, then you wont think I'm crazy."

Bree's eyes sadden as she sits herself at the desk next to Jimin, the girl then puts a hand on her shoulder.

"If there's anything you're thinking about, you can tell us." Jimin looks from Bree, then back at Adele who was now standing next to her leaning against a desk.

She let's out a sigh and explains what happened two days ago. By the end of it, Jimin had to bit her lip so the tears wouldn't come out. Bree gave her friend a hug, while Adele stayed in her same place with a stoic expression.

"It's all my fault." Adele let out a sigh and ran a hand through her hair.

"Yeah it is." Bree's head shot up, making sure to give the blond a scolding look.

"Adele!" She rolled her eyes.

"What's done is done. Sitting around and wallowing isn't going to help."

Bree pouts at her friend but keeps her mouth shut. There was only the sound of the clock ticking before Jimin raised her head up to smile weakly at her friend.

"I know, it's just going to take a while for me to forget about this."

Bree looked at the ground, eyes shifting back and forth trying to find an idea to change the mood in the room. A light-bulb comes off in her head and she looks at them with bright eyes.

"Hey! Let's head over to my house after school and hang out a bit!" Adele shrugged at the idea.

"Sure, I'm free."

"Um, sorry. I think I'll just head home today."

Adele quirks an eyebrow at her, while Bree looked just a little hurt. Jimin sighed and started to play with her fingers a bit.

"I'm really sorry, but I'm just not in the mood yet to hang out."

Bree steadily looks away from her.

"A-Alright. Hey, let's head to our next period, Adele."

Adele keeps her eyes on Jimin before nodding and walking off with Bree to their next class. The door shuts again leaving her alone. Sure, she really did want to hang out with her friends. But her mood will just get them down and make them worry even more. She just hopes that it wont be long before she finally forgets about Daemon.

oO0OoO0Oo

Jimin opens the door to her house and walks in, also taking off her shoes at the front steps.

"I'm home." She calls out.

From the kitchen her mother sticks her head out and looks at her daughter up and down, calculating to see if the girl was still in a down mood.

"Have a nice day at school, Sweetie?"

Jimin steadily nodded and headed back up the stairs to her room without another word. Her mom narrows her eyes at her as she hears the door to her open and close. The woman lets out a sigh and walks up the stairs too to follow her daughter. She opens the door and sees Jimin start to get her clothes out to change from her uniform.

"You hungry?" Jimin shook her head.

"No, I'm fine."

"You sure? I bought some hotteok from the store today, they're still warm and I know their your favorite." The girl shook her head again as she sat down on her bed. Weird, she thought to herself, ever since Daemon started to live with her she almost never was able to lay on her bed. Now that he's gone it feels weird to have the bed all to herself.

Her mother then groans and puts a hand to her forehead.

"When will you snap out of this!" Jimin looks up to her mom and starts to wave her hands.

"D-Don't worry! I'm alright!"

The woman shakes her head and lets out a growl.

"No you aren't. Ever since that Malum left you've been acting like it's the end of the world."

"Mom, I promise I'll be alright-. You knew about Daemon? !"

She stares at her mom in disbelief with eyes wide open. Her mom keeps her same attitude, now holding a frown and arms folded.

"Of course I did, how could I not notice one of the princes of Hell in my house." She then lets out a moan and holds her cheek with hand. "Of all undead beings you bring a Malum, it's any mother's nightmare."

Jimin runs up to her mom and grabs the woman's shoulders with eyes still wide open.

"W-W-Wait! Mom, you could always see Daemon? Does that mean you could see the ghosts too?" She frowns and pulls Jimin's hands off her before folding her own again.

"Of course, if one can see a demon they can see ghosts."

Jimin begins to pull at her hair.

"Then why did you pretend not to see them to me? !"

She scoffs.

"Why would I want them to know I can see them? Besides it was your fault any way for trying to befriend them when you were a child." Jimin was still beyond confuse. She took a step back from her mom.

"But, wait. When were you able to see them?"

Her mom looks at Jimin up and down before letting out a puff of air, she then walks over to the bed and pats the side of her for her daughter to come and sit. Jimin slowly walks over and sits next to her mom, and waits to her an explanation.

"This is going to be a long story. But, here is how it goes." She closes her eyes, and thinks back to the past. "It took me a while too see ghosts. But, besides that I lived a normal life. I grew up happily and at the age of twenty-two I fell in love and had a boyfriend." The woman then opens her eyes, and Jimin sees the pain in them. "That also was the year I met a very powerful ghost. Unlike others, this one didn't want to pass on and wanted me to take care of him. He was violent, and always made me sick. I then started to see other things too. I one day cried to my mother about these horrible objects I were seeing and the supposed ghost. My mother, I remember her face exactly that day. She started to cry and put her head on my shoulder. She then explained to me between tears about how I was adopted, and that my real mother and father were shamans."

Jimin's eyes widen at her mother's story.

"So, does that mean that I'm-."

Her mom nodded with a slight glare. "Yes, you and I are shamans." She then continued the story now with a look of more pain. "She took me back to my real parent's house, where she begged them to exorcise me of the ghost. I looked at my real mother, and saw the look of pain on her face. She gave me up in hopes that I would never live the life of a shaman, but here I was now in pain by my gift. They tried hard, to get rid of the ghost, but he was too strong and they failed. I didn't want to give up though, after their last attempt I stormed out of the house and called up my boyfriend. He knew I was having ghost problems, even though it sounded crazy he believed me."

Jimin's mother then closes her eyes and reminisces about that day after the failed exorcism.

A young couple were walking along the beach, the girl was skipping across the beach with her shoes off. Her boyfriend laughs at her mood while casually walking behind her.

"Yoori, you sure you don't feel sick?"

Yoori, Jimin's mother, twirls back to him with a smile.

"I'm fine!" Her boyfriend catches up to her and they both sit by the side of the beach. The couple sits there enjoying the silence together and the sound of the waves. He then turns to her and takes her hand in his, carefully rubbing his thumb across the top of her hand.

"Is it here?" Yoori frowns at his question, she knew what he was talking about.

"I don't care."

More like, I don't want to know. She then looks down at her left hand and smiles at the wedding ring, their secret engagement. Her determination soars at the sight of the ring. Yoori stands up from the sand and runs towards the water. She stops near it and takes in a huge breath before yelling.

"Hear this ghost! I'm not letting you ruin my life! I'm going to grow old with my husband and we're going to have a beautiful child too! None of it will involve you!" While trying to laugh it off, tears started to come down her cheeks. Her boyfriend then comes from behind her and clutches Yoori in his arms. She continues to cry now into his arms.

"W-We'll live happily." He nodded and put his head on top of her's.

"We'll make it through."

Jimin's mom sighs and continues on after remembering that one moment. "Of course, things just got worse after that. The ghost kept making me sick and tried to kill me some times. Also, my fiance's mother didn't approve of me. She somehow also found out I was a daughter of a shaman, which made things worse. His mother tried many ways to break us apart. But, it wasn't her that broke us but the ghost." Yoori put her head down and held it with her hand. "It almost killed my boyfriend. I knew after that I had to become a shaman. We broke the engagement, and secretly still saw each-other some times." Her head then came up to look at Jimin. "Then I got pregnant with you one year. That's when I decided that I had to leave the life of a shaman . . . and your father, and move to the states."

Jimin looks at her mom, with eyes filled with disbelief and hand nearly shaking. She then shifts her body to face her mother more.

"But, why tell me this now?"

Her mom stands up and flicks her hair to the side before looking back down at her daughter.

"You want to save that Malum, right?" Jimin nodded and stood right up from the bed.

"O-Of course!"

She lets out a smirk and coax Jimin with her hand to follow her.

"Then, you'll have to learn some tricks of a shaman to go save him."

Jimin's face then brightens to a smile as she follows her mom out of her room. The woman walks down the hall and into her own room, Jimin peeks in steadily. She's never been in her mom's room before, maybe it's because it always had some shaman things inside?

Jimin's mom heads to her closet, from her back pocket she pulls out a small fan. She opens it and in front of the door she lifts the fan up and slices it down. Jimin's eyes widen in surprise as from the fan glass pieces shatter from thin air, as if the fan broke some glass wall. Her mom turns back to her while putting away the fan.

"I put that up in case anything comes into this room." Jimin tilts her head.

"So, there's shaman things in their?"

She nodded and opened the door to the walk-in closet and stepped in, Jimin followed behind her slowly. Her mother behind her shut the door leaving both of them in darkness. Jimin could feel herself get nervous in the dark room and started to rub her arms.

"Um, mom?"

Right as she said that her mother flips on the light switch. Jimin's eyes squint at the sudden flash of light and it takes a while before she adjust to the brightness. But once she did, Jimin let out a loud scream.

"W-What is all of this? !"

All around the room there were different swords hanging from the walls and scrolls. But that wasn't what freaked her out, it was the various masks around the room and very depicted paintings of blood and human's dying. Her mom calmly walks next to her and looks around the room, totally blase about the objects in the room.

"Just different items I brought from Korea, never know if you might run into some trouble."

Items! ? That still didn't explain the bloody paintings and the freaky masks! Her mother noticed the looks Jimin was giving some of the objects and started to say an explanation for them.

"Oh, don't touch those paintings. They carry the souls of angry ghosts and demons, don't want to be cursed or possessed. And those masks . . . I just like to collect them."

That still isn't a good reason to keep them!

Jimin was now shaking where she stood, making sure not to be near any of the items. If paintings in the room could curse her, she doesn't want to know what the other items could do!

Her mom takes a box and starts to place different items into it from all around the room. Finally satisfied with everything she got, the woman starts to walk out of the room with her box, Jimin also follows in close behind her. Once out of the room, she takes out her fan again and this time just taps it against the door, making a sudden sheen of light appear on it and then disappear.

Jimin kneels next to the box and looks at the continents inside while her mother starts to pull out random objects.

"So, what are you going to do?"

"Just open a portal so you can find the kumiho and bring back the Malum."

"Y-You knew about her too?" Her mother rolls her eyes and takes a long piece of rolled up paper and sticks it onto her room door.

"Of course, I felt it's presence the minute it stepped into your room." She then started to write on the paper with an ink brush. "I've ran into a few Kumiho's before, they're like snakes so you must watch your back." She turns to look back at her daughter. "What was the fox's name?"

"Oh, um, Bo-Bae."

She nods and writes the name on the paper and steps back. Jimin now could see that on it was written the words 'LAIR OF BO-BAE'. Her mom then goes to take out a lantern and hang it next to the door. Jimin watches in interest as Yoori steps back and clasps her hands together and start to mumble out words. While mumbling the words on the door light up one by one, soon the whole entrance is glowing and flashes. Jimin covers her eyes from the bright light, she then peeks from between her fingers and is shocked to now see the door replaced by old sliding one's.

Her mother opens her eyes and walks over to the box and this time pulls out a string carrying six black pieces of carved wood. The woman hands it to Jimin and folds her arms.

"This is blessed bak, or in English, a clapper. Hit it against your hand and it will make any undead beings around you flee in fright."

Jimin looked down at the instrument, but then an idea came to her head and she jumped back from her mom and pointed it towards her.

"Why didn't you give me this when I had ghost problems? !"

A vein throbs on her mom's head and her mouth presses to thin line, trying to stop herself from hitting the girl.

"The reason why it scares off undead beings is because it calls out to God. I couldn't let you go off and use it anytime you wanted, that would just be abusing his power. So don't just start running in there and ringing it 'till you got to the Malum, the others would then just think it's a hoax and attack you."

Jimin lowered her head in shame, because that was the idea that ran through her head once she got the clapper. She then raises her head up and tilts it.

"But, how will I get him out of there? Bo-Bae could just use that sword anytime and give him that weird fever again."

Yoori's face darkened as she looked towards another direction, she lets out a sigh and runs a hand through her hair.

"I didn't want to do this, but you'll just have to make a contract with him."

She blinks at her mother.

"Contract?"

The woman nods and turns back to Jimin.

"It's looked down upon in this age, but back years ago shaman's use to make contracts with undead beings. In the contract shamans would have total control over them and could command them to do anything, like a servant. In return, the undead being would never be harmed by a human."

Jimin's eyes widened.

"So that means he wont be effected by the shaman's sword."

Her mother nodded but still had an ill look on her face which made Jimin still confused.

"Um, how do I make the contract?"

"Oh, you connect lips and that's it."

"Oh, okay . . . wait, what? !"

Jimin's face was now tinted a dark red as her hands flew up to her cheeks. She has to kiss him? ! Jimin then noticed that a dark aura suddenly appeared around her mom, making her shrink back in caution. Great, here comes her mother's dark side.

The woman let out a low chuckle and slowly turned back to her daughter with a menacing and twisted smile.

"But just remember Jimin, you better not fall in love with that demon. Or else I'll make sure to really punish you the way the shaman's did at the temples."

Jimin let out a shudder and held up one of her shaky hand with two fingers crossed.

"P-P-Promise."

Her mother's personality then changes around again back to a grinning, caring mother.

"Oh and just one more thing~."

Faster then she could blink her mom puts a headband on her head. Jimin furrows her eyebrows and takes the headband off and sees that it had . . . cat ears.

"Mom, what's this for?"

Her mother moved to the sliding doors and points towards them.

"Where you're heading to is Limbo, where the rejects of the undead go like kumihos and half-demons reside. I made a charm that landed you right near that fox's house, so it should be easy to find the Malum." She then points to the headband. "That's to make you look like a kumiho, just make up the excuse that you've been in the human world too long if they say you smell like one."

Jimin reluctantly put the headband on with a pout and walked up towards the door and opened it. It was really like a portal, right when she opened the door it lead to a bustling street. Her eyes looked around in wonder at the ancient, Asian looking road. There were different types of beings walking like any regular person. It was obviously night time with the dark sky and street light up by numerous lanterns. She then pulled back from the door and back into her mom's room and looked at her with a smile.

"Let's go find Daemon?"

"Excuse me? No sweetie, I'm staying back home. You're finding the demon by yourself."

"Eh?"

Right as her mom finished her sentence she kicked her daughter through the door and into Limbo again. Jimin was thrown to the ground, she let out a groan and rubbed her behind. At first the girl was going to scold her mother, but when she looked up her eyes were widened with horror. Her mom had the doors nearly closed and only had her eyes visible.

"What kind of mother would I be if I helped you with everything in the world?"

"One that doesn't want to get her daughter killed!"

A slight sound of a ring was heard threw the door.

"Oh, the rice is ready."

"Mom!"

But it was too late, her mother slammed the door shut and the portal disintegrated in front of her. Jimin's hand was still held forward in the air with eye twitching. Seriously, what kind of mom did she have?

Jimin shook the thought from her head and stood up to brush herself off. She looked all around her and saw that all the beings around her just walked by ignoring her presence. She let out a sigh and clenched the clapper she had in one of her hands and looked up to the sky.

It's my turn to save you Daemon!
