Chapter Six

"What do you think you're doing outside your cells!?" She screeched, "Get back to them! NOW!"

Nobody wanted to be near her, so they rushed off in the opposite direction of their cells. Besides, they wanted to get out of that hellhole too, so they didn't listen. They all rushed away from the scene of Eclair. She stared dumbfounded at their retreating figures. Eclair snapped out of her daze, and stepped out into the hallway. She raised her gun to eye level, aimed at the retreating crowd, and pulled the trigger. A pain screach filled the hallway. Others saw the person fall down, and went to help them.

As Eclair saw them moving forward again, she glared at them. She dashed forward to chase after them, and to put them back.

Kayla tried to see around in the darkness as the scientists discussed what was going on.

   "It obviously is a malfunction."

"Or someone could have turned off the power."

   "Or reset the system."

"Maybe the solar panels has been destroyed, and it's now just showing."

They all bickered around on the sudden outage. However, Kayla started to panic, but felt relieved, when she heard the comment of the solar panels being destroyed. What if someone broke in? Would they be here to rescue all the prisoners, or here to kill everyone?

Her thoughts were put to a stop as the lights flickered on. All the scientists look up in surprise, for the backup lights turned on.

Kayla looked around as the room started to shake. There was a loud ringing throughout the room. Black was creeping up her vision, as the ringing only grew louder. She started whimpering as the ringing continued growing louder by the second. The shaking room was no longer there, for her vision had turned completely black.

She wasn't unconscious. But she could see nothing. Hear nothing. Kayla tried looking around, but the nothingness just stayed. She tried looking around more, though she knew it was helpless. Until Kayla turned to a complete stop, and saw glowing red eyes before her. Her breath hitched in her throat as she looked into the haunting red eyes.

A low thundering noise erupted from the being in front of her, "YoU cAn'T rUn."

Ringing exploded into her hearing again. However, since this was unexpected, Kayla screamed. She fell to her knees and clutched her head from the sudden pain. Kayla wriggled around as a blur of color mixed together. Colors of a dark room started to clear up as she started to see the lab. The panicking of the scientists fills her vision as they started arguing over the lights and what had happened.

Suddenly the lights flickered back on. The electronics started to work, the machines whirred to life. The doors opened and closed over and over for a while, confusing the scientists. Eventually the doors stopped closing. Outside the room Kayla could here footsteps rushing down the hallway, with gunshots following shouts.

Kayla took this to her advantage as the scientists were distracted. She quickly got onto her feet and pushed the scientists to the side as she passed them. As she reached the door's keypad, she pressed the open button and the door slid open. Before Kayla could even command one of her feet to move forward, a hand grabbed her arm and pulled Kayla back towards them. Kayla struggled against the person, eventually stomping on her captive's foot. She then bolted out of the room, attempting to follow the shadows of the other prisoners.

Kayla tried to follow the shadows, but the others managed to be to fast for her. She eventually lost the shadows and started to take random turns down the many hallways. Kayla looked around panicked as she realized that her only chance of escape was ruined, only because she wasn't fast enough. Kayla took one more turn to the right and collapsed against a wall.

This was it. She wouldn't make it out. She would never see her mother again. She would never see her older brother come back from overseas. She wouldn't help her father with his mechanic shop.

Kayla wanted to cry. She wanted to scream about how terrible this was. About how unfair the world had been to her, and Ethan. He even went insane from this place, as had many others.

Just when Kayla was going to give up, she saw a shadow pass over the wall to where she was. Kayla just sat there, looking at this shadow of a little girl. Kayla slowly turned around to see the girl. Her red hair was dirty, and covered in grease. Scratches covered the right side of her face.

This girl smiled at Kayla. It was a kind smile, one that gave Kayla some hope of kindness.

   "Let me help you."
