Chapter Seven: The Party
So Bridgett went to the party a few nights later. It was in one of those fancy rich people neighborhoods that you always hear about. When she got to the house, it was what you'd expect. Boys throwing a football in the yard. Red solo cups decorating the grass. Girls screaming and cheering. Loud music making the ground shake. Bridgett felt a little nervous because she hadn't been to a real party before. Birthday parties yes. Parties with boys and drugs, no. Bridgett knew the rule of parties. How you weren't supposed to go them alone. Thats why her mom was in the bushes.
"You go have fun now," she whispered with a thumbs up. Bridgett just rolled her eyes and kept walking, pretending that her offending mother wasn't there.
As she walked up the steps to the house she could just smell the smoke and alcohol as well as sweat just pouring itself from the house. It was disgusting, yet invigorating, so she took that final step in the door.
There were people immediately. People everywhere. Pushing. Shoving. Dancing. Making out. The last bit really bothered her so she took some deep breaths and kept walking, desperately wishing she had a friend to watch out for her.
"Hey girlie." A guy with slicked back purple hair smacked her in the ass. "Are you here alone tonight babe...?" Bridgett started to panic.
"I...umm...I..."
"Of course she's not alone dumb ass." A girl with a million piercings and blue tips to her hair grabbed Bridgett by the arm and started to drag her down the hall. "You, my dear, have never been to a party before, have you?" It took Bridgett a few seconds to realize this new girl was talking to her.
"Oh um... no, I'm not really a party goer."
"That's so obvious. You gotta be careful! Look, every guy here can tell when a girl is alone and naive. And trust me, you don't want to be targeted for that. "
"I'm sorry..." Bridgett said. This girl was making her feel like a child. Super duper guilty and small. "I don't mean to be rude but... what about you though? You're alone aren't you?"
"Nahhh," the girl crowed. "I'm here with my twin brother. If any guy, or girl for that matter gave me trouble, he'd get me out of the situation immediately. My name is Sophie by the way. What's your name?"
"It's Bridgett." Bridgett was trying to act calm and collected, but in reality she was really anxious. This girl was so confident. She knew exactly what she was doing. And the piercings, lord, the piercings. She had an eyebrow piercing, a nose piercing. Ear piercings, and a lip piercing. Maybe there were more but Bridgett wasn't sure she wanted to know. She just seemed so...
"Sophie!" Another girl called out. "Are you coming with us or what? This party is a total bust."
"Yeah, just give me a second. Want to come with us?" She asked Bridgett.
"I mean...ok?"
