Chapter 14
One week later.... (Gabe)
Cyrus stared down at her bowl of half-eaten corn flakes as she tried not to watch Gabe pace back and forth in front of the large picture window. With a worried frown she turned to Roderick, "Who is he talking too?"
Roderick stared with a perplexed expression his spoon, poised in front of his mouth, forgotten in his hand. "I think we should call Jasmine or William."
"I think your right," nodded Cyrus as she watched Gabe continue to pace and become more animated as he spoke to himself. "How long has he been -?" Cyrus screamed as she watched Gabe pick up a chair and throw it into the large picture window. "Gabe! No!" Yelled Cyrus as she watched him stand precariously close to the edge.
"Oh gawd," yelled Roderick as he ran toward Gabe to grab his shoulders and pull him away from the opening. "What the fuck are you doing?"
"I'm jumping," replied Gabe calmly as if they were talking about the weather. Gabe flinched when Roderick's grip tightened on him. With a dumbfounded look Gabe started to struggle against the bear hug Roderick was now trying to put him in. "I'm going to be with Thea and our baby," yelled Gabe angrily as he thrashed around in an attempt to leap out the window.
Cyrus jumped to her feet and braced her legs apart as she summoned a spell to fix the window. As the glass flew off the floor and pieced itself back together she watched in frozen shock as Gabe ran full tilt into the repaired window. "You can't do that," yelled Cyrus as she watched Roderick pick him up and slam him to the floor. "Oh man," yelled Cyrus as she watched in horror asGabe rolled on top and punched Roderick in the face.
"Da fuck," yelled Roderick as he spat out blood, he stared into Gabe's crazy eyes. In on swift move he rolled Gabe on his back, barely able to hold him down as he struggled to free himself. "Don't just stand there screaming do something!"
Cyrus snapped her mouth closed, not realizing she'd been screaming, and ran to the bedroom she shared with Roderick to grab her smartphone. She ran back to the living room and let out horrified gasp when she saw Gabe was once again on top of Roderick with his big hands around his neck. "Stop it!" yelled Cyrus as she unsteadily pressed the send button to call Gabe's parents. "Gabe! Stop! You're going to kill him!"
Roderick put his arms between Gabe's in an attempt to them apart and loosen his grip. Roderick knocked the hands away from his neck and sent a palm into Gabe's chin knocking him onto his side.
"Shit," roared Roderick as he jumped to his feet seconds before Gabe was back on his growling with mindless intent. "Gabe are you trying to take me with you," yelled Roderick as he touched the bruise on his neck. "I don't remember being told if my alpha decides to commit suicide I have to die too!"
Gabe stared uncomprehending at Roderick as he circled him, growls emitting from his chest. "Why are you trying to stop me?"
"You've lost your damn mind," yelled Roderick as he pointed toward the window. "We're on the fucking thirty-second floor and you're trying to jump!" When Gabe nodded Roderick brow furrowed, "Do you really think Thea would want you to kill yourself?"
"I think she wants me with her" yelled Gabe as he stared around franticly. "I've talk it over -."
"With who," yelled Cyrus as she stared at Gabe with a bewildered expression. "Who are you talking to? And how long have they been telling you to kill yourself?"
"With my son," announced Gabe with a straight face. "We've been talking for about two weeks. The connection wasn't strong at first," continued Gabe with deranged look on his face. "But now I can hear him loud and clear.
Cyrus eyes widened as she stared at Gabe. "Oh God! You've lost your mind," whispered Cyrus as she gave him with a sympathetic look. Cyrus raised her hand in a sign of submission as she started to walk toward Gabe. As she got close she stopped and could hear Jasmine as she screamed frantically on the other end of phone. Cyrus held a hand out toward Gabe and willed him into calmness, "Don't do anything."
Her eyes never left Gabe as she raised the mobile to her ear and listened to Jasmine who'd heard almost everything. "It's bad," stated Cyrus calmly as she nodded slowly toward Gabe. "It's really bad." Cyrus paused to listen to Jasmine mumble a recipe to feed Gabe until her and William arrived.
Cyrus disconnected the phone and gave a weak smile, "Your parents are on their way Gabe. They are worried about you."
Gabe stared blankly at Cyrus as if he didn't comprehend. "Are they coming to see me off? I need to hurry and go join Thea and our son."
Roderick grabbed Gabe while he was distracted and threw him against the wall. "Hopefully they are coming to have your ass committed," snarled Roderick as he slammed Gabe's head into the wall knocking him out.
"You didn't have to do that," yelled Cyrus as she rushed toward the unconscious Gabe. "The spell was working a little," she continued as she grabbed Gabe's other arm and supported him.
"No," yelled Roderick as he adjusted Gabe to support most of his weight. "I could have let him kill himself!" Roderick started dragged Gabe toward his bedroom as he yelled, "Or I could have let him kill me, maybe you and then himself if that makes you feel better!"
"You know what I mean," yelled Cyrus as she watched Roderick dump Gabe on the king size bed. She pursed her lips as she took in all the brown and black furniture. "This room is depressing," she mumbled as she walked to the dresser and picked up an 8x10 picture of Gabe and Thea as kids. "How are we gonna keep him here once he comes to," asked Cyrus as she watched Roderick walk toward the bookshelf.
Roderick turned a black steel candelabra and watched as the bookshelf silently slid to the side to reveal a small wooden door. Roderick pressed a code into a panel then twisted the knobbed. Roderick gazed around the interior of the room before he stepped in front of a large plain black trunk and pull out a heavy iron chain. "I'm gonna strap his big ass down," stated Roderick as he walked back toward them.
"What the hell is that and why does he have that," asked Cyrus as she gazed at the shackle in disgust.
"Rogues," snapped Roderick as he latched one end of the chain to a bolt in the floor. He tugged with a grunt to make sure the bolt wouldn't come out the floor. Satisfied he placed the iron cuff around Gabe's ankle a metallic click alerted him to the fact that it was locked.
Cyrus frowned as she shook her head, "Rogues? The council eliminated the need to call shifters not in a pack that. They are considered displayed or loners."
"Yeah," chuckled Roderick humorlessly. "Sure they did. And they also eliminate all the feral ones that would hurt both humans and shifters."
Cyrus rolled her eyes as she looked at Gabe's face. "He's going crazy isn't he? He's so pale and his cheeks are so shallow. He's lost so much weight. "
Roderick sighed as he looked at his best friend. "He just needs help -."
"You think," snapped Cyrus as she grabbed a blanket and laid it over him. "He said his son told him to kill himself."
"I heard," muttered Roderick as he wiped blood from his bottom lip. Roderick released a dejected breath as he shook his head, "We definitely can't let the pack know about this. Damn, he needs a lot of help."
"Jasmine and William are borrowing the council's jet so they should be here by tomorrow," sigh Cyrus as she moved strands of sweaty hair from Gabe's face.
"It'll be okay," whispered Roderick as he pulled Cyrus to her feet.
Cyrus frowned as she looked around the bedroom, "I hope so."

The same day..... (Thea)
Barbara Spencer pursed her wrinkled lips as she listened to Thea read to herself out loud. She let a bored breath gush out of her nose as looked down at her age spotted hand. "I'm not an invalid," sighed Barbara as she turned to stare out her window and take in the lush green grass of the park across the street. "I can't believe I let Michel and Desiree talk me into letting this girl sit with me for four hours a day," moaned Barbara to herself as she turned to stare at the girl that thought she was too old to do anything but rock in her rocking chair.
Bored she started to rock in the chair, “Thea, what's your major at Columbia?"
Thea looked up from her reading and stared at the 80 year old grey haired woman, "I'm studying Art History with a minor in marketing."
"What do you plan to do with a degree like that," asked Barbara as she shook her head and chuckled. "I can't imagine you'll be able to get a good paying job with that degree."
Thea shrugged as she went back to reading, "After I finish college I would love to go abroad for a year or two and see some of the great works around the world. After that I need to get back to my family's cafe in South Dakota."
"Oh," nodded Barbara as she picked up her knitting basket off the side table. "How do you plan to travel after you have the baby?"
"Why do you and Desiree both think I'm pregnant," sighed Thea as she closed her book and stared at the picture on the cover. "I think I'd know if I was pregnant."
"Would you," smiled Barbara as she started to knit in her chair. "Have you taken one of those at home pregnancy test? How do you know you're not?"
Thea watched as Barbara fingers nimbly started to loop the yarn, "I'm not sure. If I were shouldn't I have morning sickness or have put on weight."
"Someone definitely did a good job of making sure you were sheltered," scoffed Barbara as she held the small square up and stared at it. "Do you think this yellow is pretty?"
"Yeah," laughed Thea as she stared at the bright yellow blanket. "Yeah it's cute. What are you making?"
Barbara ignored the question as she sent a smile to Thea. "Good, because it's for the baby you're carrying." Barbara looked at the corner of the square and frowned as she reached into the basket. "Oh I messed up right here." With nimble fingers she started to unravel part of the square. "When we find out if it's a girl or a boy I'll make something more gender specific."
Thea pressed her lips together as she stood up and walked into Barbara's small kitchenette. "I'm not pregnant," she mumbled as she grabbed one of the premade containers out of the fridge. Thea popped open the top and frowned at the contents. "Barb is this beef stroganoff good for your dinner."
"It's fine," called Barb as she busied herself with fixing whatever she'd saw wrong with the blanket she was knitting.
Thea hummed as she pulled a red pot out of the cabinet from beneath the sink. With a disgusted look she opened the container and covered her nose as the smell assaulted her nose. "Ugh," moaned Thea as she put the contents into the pot and turned the fire on low. "That stuff smells disgusting."
"Thea do you like beef stroganoff," asked Barbara a little too happily from the other room. "I have some in the freezer if you do."
Thea turned her nose up as she stared at the brown stuff with chunks of beef, mushrooms and soggy noodles. "No I'm not a fan of it," called Thea as she went to butter bread.
"Oh," sighed Barbara laughter evident in her voice now. "I thought you might like it."
Thea didn't respond as she busied herself with preparing Barbara's dinner before she got off in fifteen minutes. When the contents of the pot were done she heaped a large amount onto the square plate before she set it on a tray that had three chunks of buttered bread and a large tossed salad. Thea stared at the full tray and frowned at all the food, "That woman can sure eat a lot."
Thea picked up the tray and walked into the sitting room/living room/dining room with a pretty smile. "Here's your dinner."
"Oh Thea I'm not sure if that's enough," smiled Barbara. "But if I want some more I can get up and get it. I really appreciate this," gushed Barbara as she stared at the tray that held only half of what she normally ate. "You do so much for me," continued Barbara as a smile twisted her lips.
Thea handed Barbara a fork and laughed, "Not really. To be honest I don't know why you need a companion. Sometimes I have a feeling you're just humoring me."
"Oh," responded Barbara as she stared at Thea with bright coffee brown eyes. "Why don't you humor me and do me another favor?"
"Okay," answered Thea wearily.
Barbara reached into her basket and pulled out a small coin purse. "I want you to go to the corner store and buy yourself a pregnancy test." Barbara eyes light up on Thea, "If I'm wrong about you being pregnant I'll give you this crisp $100 bill." Barbara pulled out a $20 and handed it to Thea with a smirk.
"Fine," snapped Thea. "But I'd hate to take your money."
Barbara watched Thea walk quickly out of the door and laughed as she stood up and placed the tray on a table. She picked up the phone on the desk and quickly dialed Desiree. "Girlfriend I just talked her simple ass into going to get a pregnancy test. I don't know what shifter she was with but he sheltered the shit out of her," she laughed as she stared at her hand. "She's super sweet but street smart she is not." Barbara rolled her eyes as she listened to Desiree talk about how book smart Thea was.
"Book smarts and street smarts are two different things. The girl honestly thinks you were able to get her financial aid in 30 minutes," scoffed Barbara as she shook her head. "She's a lovely girl but we need to get some of that naivety out of her." Barbara nodded as she listened to Desiree talk about her plans to help Thea. After ten minutes she finally hung up the phone and sat back down in her seat with her tray.
Fifteen minutes later Barbara looked up and watched as Thea entered her apartment with a little white stick and tears in her eyes. "Baby it's gonna be okay," blurted out Barbara as she hurried to her feet. "Everyone here at Flow House is going to help you and your pu-baby."
Barbara placed her hands on Thea's shoulders and forced her to look at her, "The first thing we need to do is switch your major to something that can actually get you a job later."
Thea lip poked out as she nodded her head. "Maybe I should get an abor-"
"Don't even think about it," sighed Barbara as she pulled Thea into a hug. "All us old folks are gonna be thrilled to have a baby under foot."
