THEY HAD BEEN RELEASED ONLY A MERE HOUR AFTER WREN HAD LAST SEEN RHODES AND DRAY. THEY ALL HAD COUNTED ON THE FACT NEITHER THE COPS or the FBI could make a case against them without becoming the laughing stock of the country. They did not count on Interpol though, the organisation Alma Dray belonged to. But for now everything was sailing smoothly. And on to their next show it was.
It was about a four hour flight to New Orleans, long enough for everyone to calm down until their next show that evening where the next step of their plan would begin. Everyone was enjoying the peace they found on the plane, for a couple more hours they could relax without worrying if Agent Rhodes was after them again.
The man had already declared a witch hunt on the horseman.
The brunette and the redhead sat in the back with Merrit, who was joking around, filling the air with laughter while Jack was talking to Jasmine and Daniel was playing with two coins at the front of the plane.
"Allow me to make plain what we all have been thinking." Merrit started looking at Wren as he turned his head to meet her eyes.
"And what's that?" She raised an amused eyebrow as she looked at the man across from her.
"Well obviously you have feelings of affection for Daniel." Merrit nonchalantly stated seconds after her question like it was the most obvious thing in the world
Wren choked on her drink, glaring at Henley who was laughing at her but before she could say anything on the matter Merrit continued. "Unrequited and misguided, owning to his lack of emotional availability." He added with a shrug.
Wren gave the man a look as he continued, the brunette just remaining quiet until he was done.
"Consequently, you're very tightly... How should I put it? Um.. corked."
Wren sighed shaking her head. "You're so wrong Merrit I have known the guy since we were kids."
Merrit shushed her raising a finger clearly showing he still wasn't done talking. "Now, recognizing that you have physical needs not being met, and strictly in vein of helping a sister out, I invite you to think of me as your own personal corkscrew." Merrit smirked in her direction.
Wren grinned playing his game, oblivious to Daniel's piercing gaze. "Let me mull over the offer of cheap and meaningless sex." Wren rolled her eyes.
"Cheap and meaningless, maybe, but...Uh...not time consuming." Merrit pointed out.
Wren shook her head, looking up at the ceiling of the plane before laughing at him. "Sure if you think I like our Danny boy it's up to you." She replied with a shrug, turning back towards Henley to continue their previous interrupted conversation. "But a hard pass on the corkscrew plan buddy."
"Don't lie." Merrit told her.
After some time, Merrit, much to Wren's delight stopped pestering her about Daniel and instead opted to tell then some jokes. Of course the man remained on the same topic, but the brunette was glad the man lifted his own created awkward air.
"Guy goes to the doctor. Doctor says 'Sir, you're gonna have to stop masturbating.' He says 'why' he says 'so I can finish the examination."
Wren had never been one for crude jokes but the brunette couldn't hold her laughter back for this one. Not because she actually found the joke funny but because Merrit had been trying so hard that after countless of dirty jokes he still managed to come up with some.
And as her laughter filled the plane, Henley saw Daniel watch Wren with a frown from the corner of her eye. She smirked to herself, because unlike Wren, she wasn't blind and at the moment it was obvious that he was jealous. The redhead new they had a history that went way more back then theirs, and it made Henley curious as to what happened between them as Daniel stood up and made his way over towards them.
Daniel completely ignored Jack's question when the youngest member eagerly sat straighter to question the raven haired man and patted him two times on his cheek. "Hey guys." He said stopping in front of Wren and Merrit.
"Hey Danny."
"Uh, we got a show to prepare for." He told the others, trying to start their plan sooner.
"Uh, I was unaware of that. Thank you, Daniel." Wren sighed, rolling her eyes at the interruption.
"Oh, do we now?" Merrit asked as he stood up from the couch, looking right at Daniel to activate their plan.
"No, no-no-no, Don't do that." Daniel shook his head, moving away from him. "You're not doing that thing on me. No, no, no." The raven haired man backed up swiftly.
"What thing? I'm just looking at you." Merrit commented innocently, approaching Daniel again.
"No you're not. I've been watching you for a year, I know all of your little tricks." Daniel stated stubbornly, crossing his arms over his chest defiantly.
"That's what they are to you? Tricks?" Merrit questioned flabbergasted, his eyes wide in disbelief.
"Yes, It's a gimmick. It's Barnum statements. It's reading the eyes. Body language. I get it." Daniel replied quickly with a nod.
"If it sucks and is an easy thing, why don't you do Wren?" Merrit asked, turning his attention towards the brunette sitting close by
"Yeah, Daniel why don't you do me?" Wren raised an eyebrow challengingly.
"No, you're too easy."
"Why, Thank you." Wren replied dryly.
"I'll do Jasmine." Daniel turned on his heel, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"No." Everyone turned towards Arthur Tressler as the white haired man spoke up. "Do me."
Wren grinned at the other magician, a mischievous sparkle in her eyes as she looked between the members of the group. So easy.
"Oh yeah. Yeah, do Art." Merrit grinned, nodding happily.
"Let see if you can uncover his secrets." Wren added with a devilish grin.
Daniel moved forward towards the front of the plane, facing his fellow horsemen and Arthur.
"But I warn you, I can be difficult to read, when I want to be." Arthur told them after a second.
"Just, uh, stay with me, okay?" Daniel began and Arthur nodded. "So, Art, you were a tough kid. You know, kind of a real rapscallion. You had a dog. A real tough dog. A brutish breed. Like a real... I want to say Ben the Bulldog." Daniel finished
"I find him more a cat person." Wren muttered to Jack who was grinning beside her.
"Actually, I was a prissy little tot. I had a fluffy white cat named snuffles."
Everyone began to laugh at Danny's lame attempt while Wren nudge Jack happy about being right about the cat.
"Wait let me try one. I can do better than that." Jack interrupted eagerly turning to the raven haired man.
"Yeah, Danny let Jack do it." Wren nodded along, giving her childhood friend an innocent smile.
"Come on, give me one more time. One more time." Daniel asked, not waiting for an answer as he turned back towards Arthur.
"Alright let's do family." Daniel continued. "You had a uncle on your mother's side. He had a real, kind off.. real masculine name. A real, kind of, salt-to-earth.. you know, a real stick-to-you... like some kind of Paul. Thompson? Was it Paul Thompson...?" Danny sighed when he knew he was completely wrong again. "Okay, you know what? I got nothin'."
"Nearly though." Art said.
"Was I?"
"Yeah. My uncle's name was Cushman Armitage." Arthur laughed but no one else did.
"Really Snuffles and Cushman Armitage that was you childhood." Daniel looked at Arthur in disbelief.
Wren smacked his arm. "Play nice."
"I certainly hope tonight's show is gonna be better than this." Arthur looked between the horsemen.
"Oh don't worry Art. You won't even know or believe what is happening. It is going to be great." Wren smiled innocently
"It better be. Were sold out."
