Part Nine: Death of Life
Chara's POV:
I knew where he was going to go next. I always knew that predictable bag of bones next move. He was going to talk to Life, that innocent little cinnamon role, and make sure that I can't get to her before he can.
What he doesn't know is that I'm waiting. If I can kill two birds with one stone, great. If not, then that just means that I get to have more fun. I look forward to this confrontation. . . And especially the one with my sister. She'll be the easiest to kill, being the little pacifist she is.
Sans' POV:
I hovered above the ground now, rushing through the Ruins to where Toriel was. I had to get to her before that demon child did, I had to.
"Sans? What are you doing here?" She asked me as I emerged into the clearing, out of breath.
"I-It's Chara, she's. . . She's. . ."
"She's back!" A third voice said for me.
I whipped around and she stepped out of the shadows, tattering dress and all. I clenched my fists and took a few steps back, Toriel coming up behind me.
"Chara? W-What are you doing here?"
This demon child could even rattle Life herself.
"Just dropping by for a visit. And you? You in hiding from the death out there?" She grinned and I felt myself frown, an angry frown.
"Surprising when you let little Sansy here visit. Isn't he ruining your garden?"
I looked down at the death that surrounded my feet, despite floating above the ground. I sighed a little bit.
"Chara, child, please, leave here now." Toriel had a bit of a demanding tone to her.
"I can't do that! Not after the first time. No, no, no, I came here on a mission. And I think we all know what that mission is."
She drew the knife that she had been holding up and ran towards both of us. We dodged opposite ways, both of us summoning attacks. Or at least I did.
"Chara, please! We mean no harm!" Toriel pleaded.
"You may mean no harm, but he does." She pointed to me with her knife.
"Leave now and I won't hurt you!" I threatened back.
She giggled, that now agitating giggle, "Oh, you guys are being so nice to me. Don't get used to that."
She summoned a few more knives behind her and threw them at both Toriel and I both of us struggling to dodge. I got a few sizable cuts and so did Toriel by the end of it. She held her side, the blood seeping through, but I did not hold any of the wounds. The adrenaline took care of that for me, for now.
She circled around the two of us in a messy figure-eight.
"You guys try so hard, and yet, you know you're going to fail. Despite it not being in my destiny anymore, I am still Death herself. And I always win. And even Life herself has an expiration date. Have you found the one yet, Life?"
She taunted her. I felt my hands start to tremble with anger.
"Or is the balance going to be gone, once Life is gone?" She put the knife close to her and I felt myself take a sharp step forwards.
"Ooh, is the comedian getting a little antsy? One point down on his side and he wants to take a swing? Go ahead, then! We all know you want to!" She puts her hands out to the side, making herself a bigger target.
I let out a battle cry and swung at her, and it phased through her. My eyesocket's widened and she gripped it. I tried to pull it back but she kept that killer grip on it using it to give her a path right to me.
"Look who's scared for once. Death, the devil. The one person who should never be scared. Has your time come to an end, Death? Is it finally the death of Death? The death of Death and Life? Wouldn't that be interesting. . .?"
She was too close. I let go of the scythe and a piercing noise filled the air for a second before the scythe got a strange blue-red-purple tint to it. Chara smiled wide as she brought it closer to her, feeling it.
My legs give out a little bit as I realized what I had done.
"You fool!" She shouted as she whipped around.
"No!" I shouted, jumping towards her, grabbing the scythe back, making both of us trip.
My hands stung slightly from where I had made contact with her or the corrupted scythe, but I kept her down, her struggling against me.
"Run, Toriel, run!" I shouted.
"Let go of me you foolish bag of bones!" Chara shouted and squirmed.
"Run!"
