      Okay, sure, she wasn't perfect, but then again who was? In her own eyes, Daphne Phan happens to think she's the epitome of perfection thank you very much. Well, besides the fact that she was thrown to Juvie for her drug problems— her parents are set on the idea that she's addicted — and having a rather bad temper that has gotten her into more trouble than she'd ever admitted. But she didn't think that it would result in her eventually being in the middle of nowhere Washington, a small town that she thinks needs more help than her if they named themselves Forks and their curiosity laid in new girls like Bella Swan and the mysterious Cullen's.

      Girls like Daphne Phan aren't supposed to catch Edward's eyes, especially when he swears that he will never love another like he did Bella. But he swears that he felt something when her pretty brown eyes lay upon him, sparking something in him that he finds unsettling and uncomfortable and perfect. And even though he smells the faint trace of cigarettes on her clothes, her mouth being fouler than that of a sailor, and the harshness of her words, he couldn't bring himself to walk away even if she is everything that Bella Swan is not.

      However, Daphne is not all that people crack her up to be. Underneath her persona of bitchy comebacks and faux fur coats, she was far too fragile to touch and far too easy to break. Because her daddy issues ran farther than the irony of jokes that were thrown her way, no, she wasn't this villainess with power, she was a scared little girl with her tail in between her legs who doesn't know why her dad hates her or why she's his disappointment or why her mom pretends like nothing's wrong.

      But of course, she'll never let anyone know that. Edward never meant to break boundaries and though his plan of getting closer to Daphne was really his excuse of not being around his adoptive sister and her new girlfriend, he realizes through their unintended conversations at night and run-ins with one another at the 24-hour coffee shop that what he feels may be deeper than what he ever felt for Bella and that scared him irrevocably.

      And he thought loving her was going to be enough for him. He thought loving her would be able to fix all the unsolved problems in his life and make the unanswered hypotheticals finally go away. He thought loving her would make this pain in his heart dull and the only thing he'll ever feel is her. But that was before the reality kicks in. That was before she realized she doesn't know how to love. That before he realized that love wasn't going to fill the void in his life. But she wasn't a saint, nor was loving her ever going to be enough for them both. It was enough until they realized, it wasn't.

      Soon enough, their hearts became 

      . . . bruised and 

      . . . broken and 

      the color of 

      . . . indigo.
