Chapter Twenty-Eight V
"Exactly." Apparently forgetting all about a frozen Orion, he pockets the remote to start communicating with his hands, as some humans have been known to do.
It appears to be statistically probable that my body will reach us before he's done talking about everything he wants to talk about.
Suddenly, something makes him stop.
I scan the area, trying to determine what it is that distracted him.
He does the work for me by taking out an old-fashioned walkie talkie from his pocket. "Yes, I have the subject."
Out of what Orion would refer to as a 'habit,' but is really just a subliminal programming, I glance at Orion to view his reaction the circumstances that appear to about to become a lot worse. But he is still frozen, so it is hard to determine.
"We're almost to the station," the officer is saying. "No, I am not flapping my gums at the prisoner." He looks up to wink at me, so I know he's not lying since I'm not actually his prisoner.
Checking on my body, I calculate that it is still a good five earth minutes away, so it is time to implement a back-up plan.
The phone shoots up, sending electric shocks everywhere as I fry the wires.
Crying out, the officer drops the phone. "What on earth?!"
I stare down at it. "Do you have any rice?"
"Look, I know you're, like, related to it," the officer says, "but I really don't think rice will fix this." Frowning, he glances between me and his dropped phone. "Will it?"
Just two minutes and fifty-four seconds to go. "Maybe not that." I cross my holographic arms and cock my head, so it looks like I am, in fact, involved with his pain- and not literally so.
The officer frowns and scratches the side of his face that got shocked. "Well, I guess I better get back to base real quick to explain to my commanding officer that I didn't hang up on him."
I see that my plan has backfired and recalculate a new scenario. "I have a mechanical body that can be utilized as a phone. If you want, I can summon it and you can use it to talk to your supervisor."
"Thank you." He pauses. "Well, actually, that might take a bit longer than just going there, so thanks but no thanks."
My body comes around the corner. "Oh, no, it's already here."
His jaw falls open as he glances between me and my body. "Wait... you're becoming corporal?"
"I already am," I answer as my body continues to move closer. "And I'm still transient, too. While you are outnumbered."
He gulps, his adam's apple going up and down. "I-I am? But you're programmed not to hurt humans, right? That's the law, right?"
"Of course, it is," I answer, my hologram unmoving while the body comes to a stop in front of the officer. "I would never hurt you. It's against my programming."
My fist comes down and hits him on his head and he collapses.
"Just like lying is," I add.
